9/7/07 : i gave blood today for the first time in a couple of years. i've ended up missing previous sessions due to illness and iunjury so it was good to get back into it. i've even booked my next appointment for october too. go me. i'm really squeamish though so consider it something of an ordeal. ah well. good deed done, i can now go and fill my face with ice cream at the cinema watching die hard four point oh.

Two mushrooms growing in close proximity along a downed log. The red-capped mushroom is about 3-4 cm tall, the white "phallic" mushroom (an immature Xylaria polymorpha) is about 2 cm in height. The phallic mushrooms grew in profusion along the whole length of the log. The drop of water clinging to the phallic mushroom is apparently being exuded by it - I observed drops of water near the tips of nearly all of them, but there weren't any water drops on any other surfaces.
