Planet Earth Needs your Help. If you are interested in saving the planet for our feathered friends, wild flowers, wild animals and nature areas, as well as humankind follow the links below to articles I and my girlfriend have published. Each article explains in mostly layman terms what scientist are observing and forecasting about climate change as well as offering things an individual can do to help reduce global warming.

Latest Article

Our third article in our series on climate tipping points is on the melting of the world’s permafrost and its consequence to the planet. Here is the link. planetearthneedsyou.blogspot.com/2021/01/melting-permafro...

Pairs of these are seen around all at once on the plants in daylight. Must be mating season. Should've ignored them as usual but for the fact that I'd not gotten this aspect.

with copulating Stylops melittae male

Cooper's Hawks doing the do. Though it may not look like it here, this whole "process" took about 2 seconds, but they did it about 3 times, all while the female was eating. Now who said Hawks can't walk and chew gum at the same time???

We came on these cactus longhorn beetles after our morning walk, Tursday, September 19. Note the male's stealthy approach (I've heard biologists refer to them in other contexts as "sneaky rutters") and the initial apparent success. But he doesn't see to be completely familiar with the process and eventually fell off.

I'd call this the Double-Reverse Cowgirl Position if I didn't have grade school kids following my photostream.

Two quite big tortoises were at it, actually they do it very often!

This is actually by way of celebration. The movie clip was filmed two years ago today 20-6-2015! I captured on footage The Magnificent Orange Female and Her (slightly lame, older) Mate copulating beside Roger Vale Drive, near Alice Springs Airport in early sunset.

I think this is worth celebrating especially if you haven't seen this clip before as I think it represents a very privileged view of this magnificent Wedge-tailed Eagle pair.

Mating pair of the mining bee Andrena clarkella. This is one of the earliest solitary bee species to appear in Spring. The difference in male and female size and colouration (sexual dimorphism) is apparent and is typical for Andrena and many other solitary bee species. Note male's pale "moustache" and slimmer build.
