I came by these wonderful old B & W photos by way of my aunt. She was at a Scrap Booking convention/ retreat in the Red Woods of northern Calif. This woman sitting at the same table as my aunt, threw out three old photo albums full of family photos & post cards from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The lady said the albums once belonged to her mother in law and since she didn't know the people in the photos she tossed the albums in the trash. My aunt later went dumpster diving and gave me one album and she kept the other two.
You don't have to know the people to enjoy the photos. Well just like the old sayings go, "A picture is worth a 1000 words", or "One man's trash is another man's treasure"

Which in this instance is an elevated train. My stop in Astoria, Queens is at the end of the line - the N and Q lines. The W having been recently retired.
These steps lead up to a little shopping / office - shall we say - pavilion adjacent to the elevated train station above 31st Street, very near Ditmars Boulevard. The businesses connect to the train station via an elevated walkway over the sidewalk.
I LOVE these urban structures of the modern world that in composition and overlapping textures are in fact, very ancient in nature. New York is FULL of special / weird / interesting juxtapositions of spatial purposes - in addition to the contrast between stratospheric luxury and almost third world funkiness.
And let's not even consider at this point the absolutely thorough cultural mixing pot of the entire world that this city is above and beyond any other.
God, I love New York.
I always take these steps off the train so as not to slow my pace when there's a tight crowd of passengers clogging the main stair wells of the station. Interestingly, I only now as of this typing realize that I don't recall in fact ever going UP these stairs. Only down . . . Here I turned around as I descended.

Needed a photoshoot to show the quality of work I use while creating animal skin headdresses. So here's a photo that my boyfriend Jake took (edited by me). That's me wearing my Halloween costume - a headdress made from a coywolf skin. Poor animal was eating sheep, so the Fish and Game Department gave authorization to cull it. They later confirmed that it was the product of a wolf-coyote interbreeding, hence the enormous size and unusual coloration. While a normal coyote is only about 45" from nose to tip of the tail, this sucker was 68". And his fur is an appropriate shade of pumpkin orange!
I can create headdresses such as this from just about any tanned fur you hand me. Bobcat, wolf, African black-backed jackal....you name it, I'll do it (so long as it's legal, of course!).
Using basic taxidermy techniques, I can re-mold the face of the skin to make it look more realistic, as it sometimes becomes deformed or distorted in the tanning process. If needed, I open up the eye holes a bit so that a person can see through them. I then sew on a felt backing to protect the leather from ripping while the wearer is dancing or walking about. Charms, feathers, and beads are optional, of course, but can add a lot of character. This one has recycled glass beads and found feathers added to it.
The rest of this outfit is accentuated by a lion claw necklace, and one of my "ever-so-popular" taxidermy glass gator eye rings! :)

Lynda Carter from the 1970s "Wonder Woman" TV series (Hey, she was cool back then!), a cast photo of the Seven Stranded Castaways from "Gilligan's Island" (No, for the last time, I WILL NOT be in costume as Jonas "SKIPPER!!" Grumby. I will not even call you "Little Buddy" - Don't go there. ^_^;), Howdy Doody and "Buffalo Bob" Smith, and .. gah, need help identifying this picture...
I'm not dead just yet! This awesome skeleton by Aryz sure is though.
Felt pretty awesome to see a painting by a rather famous street artist by happenstance... in Renkum of all places (it's some little village-thing close to Wageningen, we came by there on an excursion today).
So yeah, anyway... I'm stressed out of my brain-pan and have like... 20 bricks here with me. It'll be a while until I post some original work here. Unless I manage to make some photographs I'm proud of or something...
Until then!
Here are 13 photos by 13 different artists that I've tagged as favorites of mine. Check them out and also check out their photo streams, I think you'll find some cool stuff.
