USFS controlled burns. Methow Valley, Wa Sep 19 13 Panorama1

I took my daughter to a birthday party at The deep today. I was fortunate to have 3 hrs to myself so went for a walk around Hull's Marina.

This is the footbridge and control room over the River Hull that links The Deep with the town.

5 frame HDR combined in Photomatrix to add a little colour to a dull grey day.

This is still part of the International Woodworkers Association building. Cat food is left here, perhaps in hopes that it attracts enough cats to keep the resident rodent population under control.

While wandering around Atlanta prior to Imaging USA, I came across this scene. By themselves, the bollards did not strike me as uncommon; with the accompanying "bollard control signal(s)," however, the scene was a bit more interesting and the varied height of the signals was icing on the cake. Obviously, this throughway (note the bollards in the background) is to be taken very seriously!

I spent a couple of hours Friday exploring and photographing the now decommissioned Holly Street Power Plant in Austin, along with a small group of photographer friends.

This image shows the old control room.

Confusion in her eyes that says it all

She's lost control

And she's clinging to the nearest passer by

She's lost control

And she gave away the secrets of her past

And said I've lost control again

And a voice that told her when and where to act

She said I've lost control again

And she turned around and took me by the hand

And said I've lost control again

And how I'll never know just why or understand

She said I've lost control again

And she screamed out kicking on her side and said

I've lost control again

And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die

She said I've lost control

She's lost control again

She's lost control

She's lost control again

She's lost control

Well I had to phone her friend to state my case

And say she's lost control again

And she showed up all the errors and mistakes

And said I've lost control again

And she expressed herself in many different ways

Until she lost control again

And walked upon the edge of no escape

And laughed I've lost control

She's lost control again

She's lost control

She's lost control again

She's lost control

The boss’ office at the gravel pit. It’s been vandalized a bit ... and the electrical panels, which are behind me in this image, appear to have been stripped.

The Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve in Homewood, Illinois has been conducting controlled burns for many years. These burns help eliminate non-native vegetation and promote healthy prairie and wooded areas for all to enjoy, including the wildlife that lives in our preserve.

In-Camera double exposure.

The jewelwing damselflies were staying close by me in the woods which seemed a bit strange until I saw what they were eating - it was mosquitos. I was the lure.

So all the massive mosquito control programs failed to stop the mosquitos. But grasshoppers and many other insects now are scarce!

Thanks everyone for all the comments I've been getting. It's really such a pleasure for me to see everyone's photos - they have provided such inspiration. And it's really been invaluable to get Id's and corrections on mine.

Mirror mirror, on the wall. I'm just someone with no self control. You don't know the real me, but you get a glimpse so you paint a picture. So vivid, but just so wrong. This little girl is broken this time. I've seen things no one should ever have to see. I paint a smile on to tell the world I'm doing fine while everything I've known flies out the window. I'm turning to the next thing. I laugh just for this moment. I guess it's not enough to be there sometimes but I've been dealt a hand no one should ever have to play. And now I sit here, all alone and bored. My head is filled with advice I once ignored- that all you get from this moment, is all you gave to your past. I'm turning to the next thing, I laugh just for this moment..

I'm crying on the bathroom floor 'cause nothing is the same.
