Did I mention I love my IR remote? Try to guess which hand it was in.

Subtle hint: it's not the one on the ground.

These images were captured in an abandoned power plant in Italy. There is not much left of the plant which once generated up to 80 megawatts. However, the control room and a cooling tower are still in place.

Third time lucky with this one, after not reaching this control room on the last visit, I couldnt give up. It was a god awful climb to be endured to get into this one, up and into instead of a staircase that has been locked.

My heart raced as we climbed up, but once inside it was all worth it, if not a bit on edge the whole time after knowing going back down would probably be more terrifying.

Launceston Castle dominates the surrounding landscape.

It was built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall soon after the Norman Conquest and became the administrative headquarters for the Earl of Cornwall. With its far reaching views, it was a significant location where control could be kept over the various estates in the area.

The ability to detect electrical activity in the brain through the scalp, and to control it, will soon transform medicine and change society in profound ways. Patterns of electrical activity in the brain can reveal a person’s cognition—normal and abnormal. New methods to stimulate specific brain circuits can treat neurological and mental illnesses and control behavior. In crossing this threshold of great promise, difficult ethical quandaries confront us.

An American white ibis was heading home for the night as smoke from a controlled burn left stripes across the setting sun.

Shooting at f/16 was a big mistake but I literally grabbed the camera from the car and ran without checking settings. My rule, which I violated yet again, is to leave cameras on f/8 or thereabouts.

It is only in the past couple of years that the control room at the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power station has been taken out of use. Generation is now controlled remotely, but the Siemens built 1929 vintage equipment remains in situ.

Nikon 105mm f2 Defocus Control is a Bokeh Beast, why you ask, because in photog speak, this lens has a low element count (6/6) with no ed or aspherical elements. optical design at it's finest. Sharp at f2.0 but not clinical in it's rendering. Though it suffers from chromatic abrasion due to having no ed elements, if shot like this the problem is not apparent. I could go on and on but if you know, you know.

Find a quiet place to control all your power... Electricity in the air, but all is under control.

Windmill Bonrepas near Schoonhoven, controlling the water level in two polders. As the thaw is on its way, the ice from the ditches will disappear in the coming days.. It is a sign that the water level can be brought under control of windmills again. That is done by the windmill, which pumps water from one polder to the other, thus controlling two polders.

Conditions on the melting ice can become highly risky then, potentially causing the situation that the icefloor floats on nothing, because the water underneath it has been pumped to another polder by the windmill. When you walk on that ice and you go through it, you will fall deeper under the ice in the water, with the possibility you dissappear under the ice. Very dangerous!

Didn't go out this morning since the weather forecast didn't look amazing and I was knackered, so I've got a chance to process some of the holiday snaps from Tenerife.

This shot was an attempt to capture the feel of the sunsets, with the incredible strength of the direct sun without any cloud to filter it. Obviously, there was no combination of filters that would hold back the brightness and I decided HDR would just look un-natural, so I allowed the sky to blow out in order to give that sun-baked feel.

The most impressive thing was that the Sigma 17-70 didn't give any flare at all, despite being pointed almost directly into the setting sun.
