Contrails in the crowded sky reflect on the surface of the James River where the morning mist has already lifted on this day in fall 2008…
The pair of contrails did not show up on Flightradar24, so i am guessing Miltary Aircraft.
Seen passing over my house in Newport, South Wales.
Destination unknown!
Late February sunset reflects off a surprisingly large number of contrails running over the Ballston skyline.
The last of the great morning shots! :-) Another great football day.
If the weather holds, I'm hitting the big NC zoo in the morning! Woo-Hoo!
At a certain time before sunrise contrails become visible for a few minutes. What is unusual in this instance is that there is only 1 contrail visible when there is normally several, an indication as to how few planes are in the sky due to the pandemic
These contrails are not exhaust contrails as would commonly be observed from high altitude aircraft, and are not vortex contrails are may be seen from the wingtips of a plane, typically at high humidity and low altitude, but a hybrid of the two (contrailscience.com/hybrid-contrails-a-new-classification/).
as seen on Earth Science Picture of the Day epod.usra.edu/blog/2015/05/hybrid-contrails-with-crow-ins...
Instabilities in the vorteces, known after their discoverer as "Crow Instabilities" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crow_instability) cause them to interact, and ultimately join together. This has the effect of breaking up the long contrails, and joining them to their partner to create rings of ice clouds.
I just had Lasik surgery yesterday and after waking up this morning, everything feels like a dream. It doesn't feel real at all.

Seen shortly after sunset this contrail looks like a rocket going skyward.
A nice sunset as well.
I can't remember what the aircraft was but there is a 90% chance it was either a Boeing 737 variant or Airbus A320 variant.
I used to work 10m in front of where those contrails started. I was thinking about the time aloft while watching footage of USAF aircraft helping Haiti.
Living near Gatwick Airport one is used to seeing these high altitude cloud formations but they have become far less common in the past two months as aircraft activity has been severely restricted. This article has much interesting information about them.
When I see these lines in the sky I sometimes think of a remark made by one of the crew members of the B17 Memphis Belle in the documentary film made in 1943 by William Wyler of the bomber's twenty-fifth mission. "The contrails are like an arrow pointing straight at us."
these had been folded at some point and i picked them out of a free bin at the week end
they a3 but mostly sky and water so ive cropped them a bit
This is an HDR and Photo Shop composite from multiple exposures of a phenomena, I believe, created from jet contrails over Grand Coulee Dam, in Washington State.
Fairchild Airforce Base is about 90 miles away and there is also a major heavy jet training / testing facility located in Moses Lake, Washington (just 75 miles from this location). The Columbia river is in the foreground. What do you think? Jet testing or a UFO?

Shot this morning walking the dogs, the contrail reminded me of a shuttle launch. Three exposures blended in HDR Efex pro 2 then edited in Colour Efex 4.
Normally, I tried to avoid contrails in landscape pictures, but that was all there was in the sky today. This is looking west toward Chicago across Lake Michigan.
