CG Dayal: Close the Indian Consulate in New York
For the first time ex-CG Prabhu Dayal has made a very intelligent suggestion that Indian Consulate in NY should be shut down to save money and embarrassment to GOI. The main functions of the Consulate; Consular work relating to passports, visas, OCI cards, PIO cards were out sourced to private agencies during his tenure. CG Dayal after making the services substandard and a nightmare for the applicants, converted the Consulate into a Pub for few rich American Indians and shady organizations as well as quasi-criminals.
During CG Dayal’s tenure only the trend to celebrate birth days of individuals not connected with Consulate or GOI in any official capacity. All kinds of non-sense events primarily Daru(liquor) Parties and covert fund raising for shady non profit organizations or to give them legitimacy became the norms at the Consulate. Just for an example CG Dayal along with Indian public sector organizations knowingly Patronized FIA famed for Girls wearing Indian Tri-color Bikinis for India Day Parade. All of them were aware that FIA is not a representative organization of Indian Americans because barring 1-2 all the office bearers are from one religion and one state of India . Loss making Premier Public enterprises; Ministry of Tourism, Air India, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India by financing FIA have been promoting racism with Indian Tax Payers money in America besides misuse of public funds by FIA owners for personal promotion. CG Prabhu Dayal knowingly shared the float with a Fugitive Nirav Mehta running from Indian Law enforcement, in India Day Parade in New York .
Current CG Mulay besides supporting FIA and maintaining a status quo of a Pub; has taken the Consulate to new heights by holding press conferences for Bollywood movie releases and holding state Dinners for visiting public sector officials, politicians and film stars that may be on a private visit. Mulay is also credited for celebrating Diwali at Times Square along with Maharashtra Minister Bhujbal with Indian Tax Payers money to benefit a local company created for this particular event only. The Indian public sector Banks and money losing Air India also funded this extravaganza that has nothing to do any thing Diwali so that their officials can wine, dine and have photo sessions with Indian dignitaries and Bollywood stars.
CG Dayal’s suggestion of closing the Consulate will definitely save money to GOI. According to him the protocol of receiving Indian Delegations in New York and sending them back to India can be done by the India ’s Permanent Mission in NY. The same is presently shared by them with the Consulate. Consular work relating to passports, visas, OCI cards, PIO cards has already been outsourced during CG Dayal’s tenure; instead of bringing the documents to the Consulates, the outsourcing company could courier them to the Embassy in Washington. Since the Permanent Mission enjoys full immunity the Indian Officials can exploit their Domestic Staff with full immunity from US Laws!
CG Dayal and most of the Consulate officials past and present are highly educated and it seems are well aware of the US laws concerning TVPA, (victims of Trafficking and violence), Domestic workers Bill of Rights, minimum pay and no deductions can be made from the payroll of a domestic help for lodging, medical care, medical insurance, travel and meals. It is a million dollar question why none of them ever tried to make aware the concerned officials in Government of India about the US Laws? Why they were paying their Domestic help less than the stipulated wages and forcing them to work long hours in violation of US Laws? Above all the local attorneys who are permanent fixtures in the Consulate/Pub why their opinion was never taken on this issue?
Devyani is not the first one to be accused of domestic help exploitation; prior to her so many cases have been settled out of court including CG Prabhu Dayal’s with Indian Tax payer’s money. It is very strange that highly educated Devyani’s US citizen husband never objected to her actions violating US laws. He should be treated as an accessory in the crimes committed by Devyani. Violation of US laws knowingly by the highly educated Indian officials amounts to nothing but gross misuse of one’s power as well as no concern for Indian Tax Payer’s money and no respect for human rights.
Coming to CG Prabhu Dayal’s version of “Consulate Officials Domestic Help pursuing American Dreams”; here CG Dayal is misrepresenting the facts. So many high Officials including CG Dayal from Indian Consulate and Embassy have done the same and have remained in United States to pursue American Dreams. Some have settled their children and relatives in USA . CG Dayal’s daughter and son are also living in US and both got plum jobs while he was CG of Indian Consulate in NY. CG Dayal who has been living in New Jersey since his retirement can he explain under what US laws these officials and their children have been able to peruse their American Dreams?
People in India should find some thing better than to demonstrate about Devyani’s strip search, hand cuff and mug shot. In America it is a standard procedure and some of the very high and mighty has gone through it. They should demonstrate about Minimum wages, standard work hours, pension, medical, vacation and sick leave for Domestic workers working for Indian intelligentsia, rich and powerful. The Indian Politicians, IFS IRS & IAS officials who are upset over corrupt Devyani’s arrest must come out of their British Raj privileges that they are above law.
By the way where were these demonstrators and upset corrupt rulers lot; when Indians were called “Cockroaches, animals, illiterates go home” in America or a 8 years old was traumatized for drawing Hindu Swastika or a 12 years old was Terrorized by Jewish controlled US Media for demanding equal rights with Jews and Christians of his town from Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie in a public meeting?

Title: [Gordon Paddock? In front of American Legation]
Date: ca. 1904
Place: Asia: South Korea; Seoul
Type: Photographs
Description: Paddock, Gordon (1865-1932) was appointed Secretary of the American Legation in Seoul in 1901, as well as Vice and Deputy Consul General; he became Consul General in 1902. When the Legation closed in November 1905, his duties as Secretary ceased, and the following year he was appointed Vice Consul General. In 1909 he went to Manchuria as Vice and Deputy Consul, first in Harbin and then in Mukden (now Shenyang). In 1910 he began diplomatic service in Persia, as Consul in Tabriz, and then in Tehran. Paddock received commendations for his efforts to protect foreign nationals in Tabriz from a succession of invading troops during WWI and its aftermath. He was assigned to Belgrade in 1922, and to Copenhagen as First Secretary of the American Legation. His final post was as First Secretary of the American Embassy in Paris in 1930, from which he retired later that year. The women standing to his left could be Paddock's wife, although this is unconfirmed.

Jewish Canadians Concerned about Suppression of Criticism of Israel

Over 150 Jewish Canadians signed a statement expressing their concerns about the campaign to suppress criticism of Israel that is being carried on within Canada. The signatories include many prominent Canadians, including Ursula Franklin O.C., Anton Kuerti O.C., Naomi Klein, Dr. Gabor Mate, and professors Meyer Brownstone (recipient of Pearson Peace Medal), Natalie Zemon Davis, Michael Neumann, and Judy Rebick. *
The signatories are particularly concerned that unfounded accusations of anti-Semitism deflect attention from Israel’s accountability for what many have called war crimes in Gaza. They state that B’nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress have led campaigns to silence criticism of Israel on university campuses, in labor unions and in other groups. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff unquestioningly echo the views of these particular Jewish organizations.
They strongly state that they are against all expressions of racism. While firmly committed to resisting any form of prejudice against Jewish people, their statement explicitly states that these spurious allegations of anti-Semitism bring the anti-Communist terror of the 1950s vividly to mind.
The statement underlines the immeasurable suffering and injustice to the Palestinian people due to the severe poverty, daily humiliations, and military invasions inflicted by the State of Israel.

Statement: Jewish Canadians Concerned about Suppression of Criticism of Israel
We are Jewish Canadians concerned about all expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and social injustice. We believe that the Holocaust legacy "Never again" means never again for all peoples. It is a tragic turn of history that the State of Israel, with its ideals of democracy and its dream of being a safe haven for Jewish people, causes immeasurable suffering and injustice to the Palestinian people.
We are appalled by recent attempts of prominent Jewish organizations and leading Canadian politicians to silence protest against the State of Israel. We are alarmed by the escalation of fear tactics. Charges that those organizing Israel Apartheid Week or supporting an academic boycott of Israel are anti-Semites promoting hatred bring the anti-Communist terror of the 1950s vividly to mind. We believe this serves to deflect attention from Israel’s flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.
B’nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress have pressured university presidents and administrations to silence debate and discussion specifically regarding Palestine/Israel. In a full-page ad in a national newspaper, B’nai Brith urged donors to withhold funds from universities because "anti-Semitic hate fests" were being allowed on campuses. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff have echoed these arguments. While university administrators have resisted demands to shut down Israel Apartheid week, some Ontario university presidents have bowed to this disinformation campaign by suspending and fining students, confiscating posters, and infringing on free speech.
We do not believe that Israel acts in self-defense. Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid, receiving $3 million/day. It has the fourth strongest army in the world. Before the invasion of Gaza on 27 December 2008, Israel’s siege had already created a humanitarian catastrophe there,
with severe impoverishment, malnutrition, and destroyed infrastructure. It is crucial that forums for discussion of Israel’s accountability to the international community for what many have called war crimes be allowed to proceed unrestricted by specious claims of anti-Semitism.
We recognize that anti-Semitism is a reality in Canada as elsewhere, and we are fully committed to resisting any act of hatred against Jews. At the same time, we condemn false charges of anti-Semitism against student organizations, unions, and other groups and people exercising their
democratic right to freedom of speech and association regarding legitimate criticism of the State of Israel.

PROTESTERS IN PUTIN MASKS POUR “BLOOD” ON OLYMPIC FLAG
AT RUSSIAN CONSULATE
Queer Nation Demo Marks Opening of Sochi Olympics
Vladimir Putin's Anti-Gay Laws and State-Sanctioned Anti-Gay Violence at Issue
New York, NY (February 6, 2014) -- More than 100 members of the gay activist group Queer Nation and others who oppose the Russian government’s continued attacks on human rights, including the rights of LGBT Russians, marked the opening of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games with a raucous protest directly in front of the Russian consulate in New York City at noon today.
The protest included three people wearing Putin masks who dumped fake blood on the iconic five-ringed Olympic flag to underscore the International Olympic Committee’s complicity with the Russian government.
"We've focused on the IOC and how holding the Olympics in Sochi goes against everything in its charter,” said Queer Nation member Ken Kidd, referring to past Queer Nation protests. “We've focused on NBC and major Olympic sponsors like Coke and McDonalds, who pay lip service to equality while profiting from inequality and ignoring Putin’s human rights atrocities. Now we're once again laying our message right on Putin's doorstep. The whole world is watching -- literally. Putin can't hide his pogrom behind the sports page."
Among the protesters were gay Russians who have fled Russia and are seeking asylum in the U.S., members of RUSA LGBT, an organization of gay and lesbian Russian expatriates, students from Queens College, and members of Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village. They chanted “Queer rights are human rights!” and “Gay bashing is not an Olympic sport!”; held “Putin heads” on sticks; and carried anti-Putin signs in both English and Russian.
Last June, the Russian government enacted legislation that effectively bans any pro-LGBT statement in public or private and on the Internet. In July, a law banning adoptions of Russian children by people from any jurisdiction that allows same sex marriage took effect.
Last year, the Russian parliament considered legislation that would allow the government to remove children from a household headed by a gay or lesbian parent. While that legislation has been withdrawn ahead of the Olympics, activists believe the parliament will reintroduce it after the Games are over.
The anti-gay legislation’s passage has been followed by unprecedented, effectively state-sanctioned violence against LGBT people, who have been harassed, arrested, beaten, raped, tortured, and killed. Activists had called for a boycott of Sochi and for the Games to be moved from Russia, citing its abysmal human rights record, including its attacks on LGBT Russians.
The protest is the latest in a series of high-profile protests launched by Queer Nation dating to July 2013. They include December 12 actions at two NBC employee Christmas parties and earlier confrontations with Moscow government officials at meetings promoting US investment in Russia. The group has also targeted supporters of Putin performing at the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall as well as “Russia Day” at the New York Stock Exchange.
Queer Nation has also targeted corporate sponsors of the Olympics, most notably Coca-Cola and McDonalds, through pointed, successful social media campaigns, including appropriating McDonalds' #CheersToSochi Twitter hash tag.
“The Russian government is on notice that the start of the Olympics is not the end of this fight," said Scott Wooledge, another Queer Nation member. "Overturning these laws and ensuring the rights of LGBT Russians is the only way for Putin to begin to repair that damage to his reputation on the world stage the passage of these laws has done."
Queer Nation is a direct action group dedicated to ending discrimination, violence, and repression against the LGBT community.

Thalidomide casualties offer spare limbs to German Consulate - London 02.10.2013
Thalidomide survivors protested outside the German Consulate in London's Belgrave Square against the German government's 42-year long protection of Grünenthal GMbH - manufacturer of Thalidomide - from prosecution by any victims of the infamous drug which was administered to pregnant women as a cure for morning sickness, but which caused terrible birth deformities in over 10,000 babies worldwide, many of whom died agonising deaths.
The German government passed a special law in 1971 which gives the drug manufacturer immunity from any prosecution by victims of Thalidomide, even though Grünenthal's victims have needed a lifetime of support which has instead been paid for by taxpayers of the countries in which they were born.
Though various Grünenthal senior officials have verbally apologised over the past few years, the company still refuses point blank to pay compensation for the enduring human misery they have caused, and it is alarming to hear that Thalidomide is now being dished out in Brazil as an effective treatment for Leprosy. Though Thalidomide is proving to be very effective, the problem is that unscrupulous doctors and pharmacists in Brazil are not ensuring women are not pregnant before issuing the drug. As a consequence, the horrors of Thalidomide has been unleashed on the favelas, and Grünenthal know they will continue to be unfairly protected by their government.
Grünenthal has never paid a penny of compensation to its victims in Australia, Sweden, Canada or the United Kingdom.
