A day out at Trentham Gardens and Trentham Shopping Village at The Trentham Estate. It is near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire.

Trentham Gardens was formerly the home of Trentham Hall, but I found it in ruins near the Italian Garden (partially demolished in 1912).

The ruins / remains of Trentham Hall. This was the Porte-Cochere.

This is all that remains of the grand entrance hall and conservatory of Trentham Hall. During the period 1830-50, Sir Charles Barry carried out several external alterations to the house for the 2nd Duke of Sutherland. These included: rebuilding the dining room, conservatory, curved entrance corridors and creating the porte-cochere.

The remaining ruins of the conservatory and porte-cochere will be incorporated into a new 5 star hotel due for construction on this site.

The remains are Grade II* listed.

1833-42. Architect: Sir Charles Barry. The approach to Trentham Hall was originally from the west and this Grand Entrance formed part of the west front. Italianate. Plastered brick and ashlar. Single-storeyed arcaded range with unfluted Ionic columns defining bays and balustrade above cornice. Centre is semi-circular on plan with side wings, that on right-hand side incorporating Heathcote Tatham's Orangery of 1808. Impressive porte-cochére projects at centre with massive carved coats of arms above the 3 arched entrances.

Remenants of a modern day construction are not a match to the determined traffic which meander through the rubble.

this picture was taken at a construction site during a rather thick fog in the late afternoon. the diffused light gave everything a ghostly, yet warm feeling. it was very strange and quite surreal, but also somewhat mesmerizing.

This is going to be an interesting drive..The sight that meets your eyes when you pull the drivers door on one of the Bedford TM's featured in these few pictures. No idea of the location of the site, probably a by-pass or motorway extension during the 1990's in the south.

I was on the top deck of the no 24 NXWM bus, when Urbos 3 tram no 26 of the Midland Metro went past towards Snow Hill.

There will be some changes - as Bull Street tram stop will be closed for a few weeks, while the new Snow Hill tram stop will have a temporary opening around Easter 2016.

If all goes well, the line to New Street Station will be open by end of April or early May 2016 (they have missed the original date of December 2015, and the later revised date of end of February 2016).

Chuga chuga chugachuga chug!.. the milling machine crushes rocks, concrete and asphalt. The operator stands there listening to the rhythm of the this behemoth. But wait! There’s more!... an incoming text.

This construction site is on the south side of Lake George. I don’t know what is being built so walking through it is the reverse of roaming through ruins and a pleasure that’s just as intense. It’s a present tense experience of abstract form in the state of becoming… electrical conduit snakes along a labyrinth-like route bordered by orange vinyl fence on one side and a cyclone fence on the other….the fences meander around 50-foot mounds of dirt,…at the site’s south end is an excavation with molds ready for concrete. As you move through this site, the failure of form to reveal its direction and purpose keeps you in the state of now, a state of wonder.
