Today is the National Day of Norway, which marks the Norwegian Constitution Day.

The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in 1814.

One of the main attraction of the day is children´s parade which occurs all parts of the country. In Oslo, the biggest such parade occurs in front of the Royal Palace. This picture was taken at Karl Johan street when children were shouting loudly "Hipp Hipp Hurrah"!

Today is Norway's national day! :D

And I'm sitting at home doing homework... We have so much to do at school this week, it's such a bad timing.

But I have dressed up a little, and soon we're gonna have a nice dinner and then strawberries. I love strawberries :D Haha. So I guess it won't be completely terrible.

Congratulations all Norwegians! :) :)

Today I went to Cantigny to shoot Fall color before the first freeze. When I got there I realized it was Constitution Day. Admission was free and I was given a book of the U.S. Constitution. Once inside I realized there was a Special Naturalization Ceremony. I stayed for the ceremony and took a few photos. It was a wonderful experience to see so many people from different countries become citizens. A fantastic day with unexpected emotions.

Every soldier since time immemorial has had to do guard duty at one time or another during their service. A very monotonous boring prospect however, if you really do find something that shouldn't be out there, and it's coming towards you, it usually scares the living shit out of you and you feel all alone. That's probably because you usually are.

The Norwegian Constitution Day is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday observed on May 17 each year. Among Norwegians, the day is referred to simply as syttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth), Nasjonaldagen (The National Day) or Grunnlovsdagen (The Constitution Day), although the latter is less frequent.~ Wikipedia

I was SURE I didn't have the energy to take a photograph that I would post on flickr today. But. I did (like 11pm or something)

I think about how it would be to not be way to often.

hence this photograph.

Norway's Constitution Day

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)'s Asagiri-class destroyer JS Yugiri (DD-153) (front), Enoshima-class minesweeper JS Hatsushima (MSC-606) (left back), and Awaji-class minesweeper JS Awaji (MSO-304) (mid back) and JS Hirado (MSO-305) (right back) are fully dressed to offer their congratulations on the Constitution Day at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, May 3, 2019.

In order to join the regiment one had to have a rifle. From what I understand with the smooth bore in a flintlock rifle they were't very accurate. It was more shoot and pray and spend another minute frantically reloading while the other side is shooting at you! Standing your ground had a whole different meaning in those days.

A father and daughter in their May 17's best in Tjuvholmen.

Tjuvholmen is part of the urban restructuring program that's converting Aker Brygge, the old habour and warehouse quarter of Oslo, to an upmarket living and shopping area - comparable with the "Kop van Zuid" in Rotterdam.

The Russ phenomenon:

When pupils leave secondary school to enroll in university they take part in a rite of passage. They become Russ and are baptized as such on May 1. They mostly dress in red (rød) trousers and the traditional red cap with a string attached to it, in which knots are tied. Each knot (an item) forms a reward for completing an assignment. Modern men’s tribal past is never far away ;-). The assignments involves behavior that symbolizes the braking free from the shackles of home and school by challenging social conventions : things like posing as police officers, spending a night in a tree (the knot: a piece of wood from the tree) , buying condoms or tampons using only sign language (the knot: one of the items bought) and of course much partying and drinking - drinking a bottle of wine in 20 minutes (the knot: the cork) .

From May 1 to May 17 the Russen engaged in their 'russefeiering' are all over town.

I took this photo in the early morning, on what would normally be a crowded street, while walking to the train station....

Former President of the European Council with Autograph Hunters on Constitution Day (Polish and Lithuanian Constitution Day since 2007, May 3rd Constitution Day on Liberty Square in Poznan, the Greater Poland capital). He said on 3 May 2022: „Poland will never die, that the Ukraine will win a victory”. The Constitutional Holy Day is a timeless heritage of never dying values. You can’t put a value on human life.

As with yesterday's Flickr post this one of the Flag-Bearers was also taken in Kirkwall's central narrow Albert Street.

The whole procession was preceded by the Kirkwall Pipe Band to Kirkwall's "St Magnus" Cathedral.
