Sykkylven, near ƅlesund on the west coast of Norway. Probably more than 1000 locals took part in the celebration, a significant part of the population.

This is the main parade approaching the village center, led by the Mayor and the local Police head (We have a female sheriff in Sykkylven!). Traditionally they are followed by scouts with Norwegian flags.

Bunad, the national dress has become very popular among Norwegian women the last 10-20 years, especially among the young ones. It is very expensive, typically 2000-10000 Euro (Yes, two to ten thousand Euro!), so not everyone can afford. But many often get their for the youth celebration ("Kofirmasjon") at the age of 14-15, as an investment for life. They are made to be adjustable, of course...

You can see a few to the left, and some more in the main part of the parade in the background. There were hundreds to be seen this day, and they really make the girls look beautiful.

At the time the flint lock rifle was the most advance weapon in the military weapons arsenal.

Thanks to Alec, for the following intell: the flint lock rifle had a rifled barrel, while the British used the Brown Bess musket, which was smooth bore--and this put them at a dreadful disadvantage, except for mass firing at close range.

Maybe I should have saved those left over dreams

Funny, but here's that rainy day

Here's that rainy day they told me about

And I laughed at the thought that it might turn out this way

Where is that worn out wish that I threw aside

After it brought my lover near

It's funny how love becomes a cold rainy day

Funny, that rainy day is here

Tomorrow, May 17th 2014, marks the 200 years anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution. Ella was kinda proud heading for school with her red, white and blue bow ties.

Every soldier since time immemorial has had to do guard duty at one time or another during their service. A very monotonous boring prospect however, if you really do find something that shouldn't be out there, and it's coming towards you, it usually scares the living shit out of you and you feel all alone. That's because you usually are.

Hordes of Norwegians (well a few) swing off the Lawnmarket on the Royal Mile into Bank Street, as they parade and celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day, the seventeenth of May and the country’s dissolution from Denmark, and which avoided being ceded to Sweden in 1814, after the disastrous defeat of Denmark-Norway in the Napoleonic Wars.

Of all the photos taken of the parading russ, I felt this portrait stood out from the rest. It was shot when she saw some friends standing next to me and she posed for their cameras.

May 17th is the Constitution day in Norway, and most people dress smartly to participate in or to watch the processions.

Bunad has become increasingly popular the last decades, and I would estimate that half of the women i Trondheim this day, wore bunad. The dresses are very expensive, 5-10.000 dollars for a complete outfit, some may be even more expensive. So those who have one, cannot afford not to wear it on May 17th.

There are also similar outfits available for men, but they are far less popular. Women know they look good wearing it.

I have never seen so many different shapes of balloons before, they come in all imaginably shapes; helicopters, dogs, Winnie The Pooh, horses etc. you name it.

I almost wanted one, too...;))

Today I went to Cantigny to shoot Fall color before the first freeze. When I got there I realized it was Constitution Day. Admission was free and I was given a book of the U.S. Constitution. Once inside I realized there was a Special Naturalization Ceremony. I stayed for the ceremony and took a few photos. It was a wonderful experience to see so many people from different countries become citizens. A fantastic day with unexpected emotions.

Colonel Stoned-Well Jackson leads the Rebs into battle while an unfortunate private takes one for the team. It was all in good fun as the Rebs crushed the Yanks in a re-enactment of the famous Baseball Field Battle and won the rights to the dugout on the shady side of field. This Civil War re-enactment event was part of the Constitution Day activities in Nevada City CA and was followed by the parade of presidents where all past and present presidents and their wives marched in full regalia down Broad Street.

Great fun was had by all. Check out the series of photos below if you're interested in a blow by blow description of the battle. Otherwise, feel free to blow them off and move on to something more interesting. ;-)

Nevada City CA

Today is the National Day of Norway, which marks the Norwegian Constitution Day.

The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in 1814.

One of the main attraction of the day is children“s parade which occurs all parts of the country. In Oslo, the biggest such parade occurs in front of the Royal Palace. This picture was taken at Karl Johan street when children were shouting loudly "Hipp Hipp Hurrah"!

Today is Norway's national day! :D

And I'm sitting at home doing homework... We have so much to do at school this week, it's such a bad timing.

But I have dressed up a little, and soon we're gonna have a nice dinner and then strawberries. I love strawberries :D Haha. So I guess it won't be completely terrible.

Congratulations all Norwegians! :) :)
