Gas is a normal and common part of the digestion process. A healthy adult passes gas anywhere between 13 and 21 times during a day. However, the inability to release gas from your intestines might also cause pain and bloating. Overeating, chewing gum, drinking with a straw, eating certain types of foods, smoking, and swallowing …

Is There A Cure for Mesothelioma?

Although mesothelioma is incurable, treatment options and outcomes improve if the disease is detected at an early stage. However, since the time between the first exposure to asbestos and the diagnosis of mesothelioma is usually between 20 and 50 years, the disease is usually detected at an advanced stage like stage 4 mesothelioma. In addition to the time it takes for the disease and the symptoms to develop, the diagnosis is often delayed because these symptoms mimic other more common conditions. Because people confuse these symptoms with other minor ailments, they will take all the time to go to the doctor or ignore them completely.

Time is running out when it comes to fighting an aggressive disease such as mesothelioma, so the symptoms should never be ignored. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma (chest mesothelioma) may include pain in the chest or lower back, difficulty breathing, cough, fever, excessive sweating, fatigue, weight loss (without trying), difficulty swallowing food glued), hoarseness and swelling of the face and arms. The symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma (mesothelioma of the lining of the abdomen) may include abdominal pain (abdomen), abdominal swelling or damage, weight loss (without trying), nausea and vomiting, and constipation.

Survival statistics for mesothelioma

Mesothelioma survival statistics are very general estimates that should be interpreted with caution. Because they are based on the experience of groups of people, they do not predict the chances of survival of a particular person. There are many different methods for evaluating and recording cancer survival statistics. Your doctor can explain mesothelioma statistics and what they mean to you.

Mesothelioma Survival by Location, Stage, and Subtype

Mesothelioma survival varies depending on the location, stage, and particular cell subtype. In general, mesothelioma produces a poor prognosis since it is aggressive. Usually, mesothelioma is only detected at an advanced stage, making it more difficult to treat. Mesothelioma alternative treatments are on the rise as a unique healing method for this disease. Complete healing treatments for mesothelioma are also on the rise amongst patients. Only a small number of people are diagnosed with early mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma of the epithelioid cell subtype gives a better prognosis than other cell subtypes. This type of mesothelioma is easier to treat and is linked to a longer life expectancy. The sarcomatoid cell subtype mesothelioma produces the poorest prognosis.

Evaluating Risk

Cancer cells can increase to other parts of the body. The cancer cells in the lining can sometimes move to nearby organs and tissues. When cancer cells spread, what is known as a metastasis occurs. For doctors, the cancer cells in the new site are identical to those in the lining. Cancer always bears the name of the place where it originated. Therefore, when mesothelioma in the chest spreads to the spine (or anywhere else), it is still called mesothelioma. It can only be called bone cancer if it has originated from the cells in the bones of the spine. Late stages like stage 3 mesothelioma can be difficult to properly diagnose.

Mesothelioma Testing

The doctor will ask you questions about your health and perform a general physical examination. If the signs point to mesothelioma, more tests will be carried out.

The following tests are some that might be necessary:

Chest x-ray for Mesothelioma: This is often the first test that is done looking for problems with your lungs. If any change is detected, you will need more tests.

Computed tomography scan for Mesothelioma: This study is also known as “CT scan or CAT scan.” It is a special kind of radiography that captures images of the inside of the body. A CT scan may also be used to help perform a biopsy (see information below).

PET scan for Mesothelioma: in this study, you are given a special type of sugar that can be seen inside your body with a camera. If there is cancer, the sugar appears as “radioactive spots” indicating where the cancer is. With this study, the whole body is examined. It can also help if the doctor thinks cancer has spread but does not know where.

Magnetic resonance imaging for Mesothelioma: This study, known in English as MRI, uses radio waves and powerful magnets instead of X-rays to create detailed images. MRIs are very useful for examining soft tissues.

Blood tests for Mesothelioma: Blood tests are not used to discover mesothelioma. Although blood tests can give the doctor more information about your health status.

Biopsies: The doctor removes a small piece of tissue or a small amount of fluid that has accumulated where cancer appears to be. Then it is analyzed to find out if it contains cancer cells. A biopsy is the best way to know for sure if you have cancer. There are many types of biopsies, as well as ways to perform them. Ask your doctor what type of biopsy you will require. Each type of biopsy has advantages and disadvantages. The choice of the type of biopsy to use depends on your case.

Captured by a friend

In most cases, people turn to pharmaceuticals to help them, which contributes to the immense increase in the sales of sleeping pills.

However, these medications have been found to do more harm than good in the long run. Researchers have found that their use can cause the following side-effects:

Diarrhea

Difficulty keeping balance

Dizziness

Burning or tingling in limbs

A headache

Heartburn

Stomach pain and tenderness

Uncontrollable shaking

Mental slowing/problems with attention and memory

Unusual dreams

Weakness

Changes in appetite

Constipation

Daytime drowsiness

Dry mouth and throat

Flatulence

Impairment the next day

Insomnia is the inability to sleep due to various factors, like waking up too early, frequently waking up during the night, or facing difficulties to fall asleep. It can be a result of biological, psychological or social factors. It is different than sleep deprivation, as it is considered to be caused by internal factors only, not things like loud noises, for instance.

Yet, the outcome is the same as both lead to a lack of sleep, that in turn causes:

Poor memory

Lower cognitive function

Fatigue

Anxiety

Lack of concentration

Moodiness

Irritability and anger

Fatigue during the daytime

Headaches or migraines

Upset stomach

Lack of energy

Lack of coordination

Finding a natural alternative to sleeping pills, in order to avoid their side-effects, but still prevent these symptoms of the lack of sleep, should always be your priority.

You will be pleased to learn that nutmeg is one of the most potent natural cures for insomnia and sleep deprivation, and a strong sedative. Stress is believed to be one of the main causes of insomnia, and it is rich in myristicin, a natural organic compound that inhibits the release of enzymes that cause stress.

According to NDTV Food:

“Said to be a native of Indonesia, found in the Spice Islands, it is the seed of the fruit of an evergreen tree known as Myristica fragrans. It now grows in Malaysia, the Caribbean, and Southern India as well. It is also the only tropical tree in the world which is credited for bearing two distinct spices -- nutmeg and mace.

The nutmeg tree is also valued for its medicinal properties. The leaves and other parts of the tree are used in extracting essential oil as well as nutmeg butter, which are used for the purpose of beauty and have other health benefits. Nutmeg is packed with nutrients: minerals such as magnesium, manganese, and copper; and vitamins such as B1, B6, etc.”

Moreover, despite its other beneficial properties,

“nutmeg has a calming effect when consumed in smaller doses. Various ancient medicinal practices credit it for its sleep-inducing and de-stressing effects.”

All you have to do is to add a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg powder to a cup of water and drink it an hour before bedtime. Note that you should never exceed the dose, and avoid it in the case of pregnancy.

You will feel the difference within a few days!

much to everyone's delight, Tom had brought his constipation to the table

This is David Isaiah Lambert. He is 13 years old. He has MEN2b (multiple endocrine neoplaysia) and MTC (medullary thyroid cancer) and Megacolon. He suffered many years before diagnosis. He was a failure to thrive infant with severe constipation. He also had RSV twice as an infant. He developed 8 teeth before he was 8 months old, they were all removed by the time he was 3. The rest of them were crowned. He just could not absorb vitamins and minerals. He was tested for Celiac, Cystic Fibrosis, Hirschprungs and many other things. He loves to play baseball, he is actually a pretty good pitcher. As he got older he just got weaker and weaker. I believe with alot of love and support he will play again.

He was diagnosed right before his 13th birthday June 2012. One month later he had his thyroid and the cancer removed.. Had his disease been recognized sooner he may have never developed the cancer. We are now trying to get back to some type of normal.. whatever that is. I dont know if he has ever had a day where he really felt good. I am thankful for MDA Houston and his endocrinologists Dr. Khateeb and Dr. Waguespack. . Many thanks to all who recognize and support rare diseases. I am praying all will be cured.

David would like to speak to other teens ot young adults who are in a situation similar to his.. look him up on FB. I'm sure he would be glad to have some new friends.

God bless you all..

The early Hawaiians used an adhesive gum from pāpala kēpau for repairing bowls.

The milky sap from pāpala kēpau (Pisonia spp.) was used for cuts. The cooked leaves were used to cure pāʻaoʻao (childhood disease with physical weakening) and for lepo paʻa (constipation).

Pāpala kēpau are truly fascinating plants with a sad, but interesting, cultural history. A sinistral use for the sticky fruit was to trap native birds. [6] The captured victims provided feathers for the strikingly colorful cloaks (capes), helmets, lei, images and kāhili. Birds such as 'ō'ō and mamo were plucked of their few moulting yellow feathers and set free to grow more for the next season. However, this was not the case with the 'i'iwi and 'apapane which were covered with red- or green-colored feathers and would not have survived the plucking. They were captured, plucked and eaten.

Etymology

The generic name Pisonia is named for William Piso (ca. 1611-1678), Dutch physician, pharmacist, botanist, and early writer on medicinal plants of Brazil.

The specific epithet umbellifera is from the Latin umbelliferum, umbel-bearing or shade carrying, from umbrella (altered from umbell), Latin for parasol, and named for the large leaves of this species.

After reading a lot about pumpkin and not giving it to dogs very much because of the high Vitamin A, I found out that it's not that bad. I froze it in ice cube trays so everyday I can take some out to put in his meals. It really makes a big difference in his constipation issue.

This is my twin son Noah. He suffers from PVNH of the brain. He has epilepsy, bronchiectasis, bronchomalacia, mitral, tricuspid & aortic valve regurgitation, he's hyper mobile, suffers from constipation & dysmotility of the bowel effecting his colonel name a few. He is also peg fed due to failure to thrive. We are currently still waiting on DNA results to see if he has a syndrome causing all these problems.

And no, I don't mean being relived of constipation, but seeing first hand a wild African Elephant. Had a couple of days near Pretoria on business, so taken a late afternoon trip up to to nearby Pilanesberg Game Reserve, arriving just past sunset but just in time to spot a poop on the ground nearby to whet the appetite. Well you know what I mean...

Eagerly watching out over a waterhole tonight and for what the early morning may bring.

this was the scene that confronted me in a motel somwhere in nevada, divine constipation i call it.

Senna Leaves (Senna angustifolia, S. species)

By Christa Sinadinos

Senna is a very stimulating laxative and should only be used for the short-term, temporary relief of constipation. (The author recommends first considering other options such as demulcent herbs, carminative herbs, cholagogue agents, and / or psyllium.) However, when a more heroic treatment is needed, an infusion of the senna leaves is effective. In doses such as 2-4 ounces of tea at a time, it produces normal evacuation of the bowels, but can cause griping if excessive doses are consumed. The author recommends combining senna with other carminative agents such as fennel or anise to prevent griping.

Senna is sometimes used when constipation results after surgical operations, post-confinement, drug withdrawal, and in feeble, inactive bowel states. Senna leaves are the active constituent in the Eclectic formula “Compound Licorice Powder.” The recipe is as follows: combine two ounces each of senna and licorice powder, one ounce fennel powder, and five ounces of sugar (optional). The dose ranges from ¼ gram to 1 gram in water. An additional simple laxative remedy that works well is as follows: make a strong induction of senna leaves and strain. Stew prunes in the liquid until they are thoroughly cooked. Eat one prune 3-4 times throughout the day. Senna may take up to twelve hours to take effect.

**Contraindications: avoid use during pregnancy and lactation, and in children. Senna should also be used with caution with some prescription medications. Avoid using with any inflammatory bowel disease.**

Cascara is used for constipation, as a laxative, for gallstones, liver ailments, cancer, as a bitter tonic.
