Some patients suffer from a condition called Obstructive Defecation. It is a condition where difficulty in evacuation of the bowel is reported. People with such conditions often confuse it with constipation. These people sometimes have the habit of evacuating the bowel by manipulation with fingers. The condition causes incomplete evacuation of bowel, spending too much time in the toilet trying to push out the stools, pain in the rectal region, etc.
There are many reasons attributed to Obstructive Defecation and they include pelvic floor dysfunction, rectocele, fecal impaction, colorectal cancer, anal cancer, etc. If the condition is not due to any cancer or fecal impaction, Obstructive Defecation can be corrected using a surgical technique called STARR procedure (Stapled Trans Anal Resecution of Rectum). It is one type of Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy, a type of piles surgery. This procedure is performed by using a surgical stapler for removing excess tissue in the rectum. The surgical procedure is helpful only when Obstructive Defecation is caused by anotomical defects in the rectal region.

This is David Isaiah Lambert. He is 13 years old. He has MEN2b (multiple endocrine neoplaysia) and MTC (medullary thyroid cancer) and Megacolon. He suffered many years before diagnosis. He was a failure to thrive infant with severe constipation. He also had RSV twice as an infant. He developed 8 teeth before he was 8 months old, they were all removed by the time he was 3. The rest of them were crowned. He just could not absorb vitamins and minerals. He was tested for Celiac, Cystic Fibrosis, Hirschprungs and many other things. He loves to play baseball, he is actually a pretty good pitcher. As he got older he just got weaker and weaker. I believe with alot of love and support he will play again.
He was diagnosed right before his 13th birthday June 2012. One month later he had his thyroid and the cancer removed.. Had his disease been recognized sooner he may have never developed the cancer. We are now trying to get back to some type of normal.. whatever that is. I dont know if he has ever had a day where he really felt good. I am thankful for MDA Houston and his endocrinologists Dr. Khateeb and Dr. Waguespack. . Many thanks to all who recognize and support rare diseases. I am praying all will be cured.

After reading a lot about pumpkin and not giving it to dogs very much because of the high Vitamin A, I found out that it's not that bad. I froze it in ice cube trays so everyday I can take some out to put in his meals. It really makes a big difference in his constipation issue.

This is my twin son Noah. He suffers from PVNH of the brain. He has epilepsy, bronchiectasis, bronchomalacia, mitral, tricuspid & aortic valve regurgitation, he's hyper mobile, suffers from constipation & dysmotility of the bowel effecting his colonel name a few. He is also peg fed due to failure to thrive. We are currently still waiting on DNA results to see if he has a syndrome causing all these problems.

Poor Nobuo had a horrible day yesterday. Early in the morning I brought him to the vet because of a possible nasty constipation problem (which is a lot worse than it sounds). It turns out he wasn't constipated at all but his bladder was plugged up. The vet did vettish things and unplugged his bladder and I brought him home in the evening. He got progressively worse until he was shaking and rolling around unnaturally, which made me very nervous so I took him to an emergency vet. It turned out his bladder got plugged up again and due to his diabetes, how much he didn't eat, his infection, and the insulin I gave him, he was in hypoglycemic shock. An IV of dextrose perked him up very nicely. I visited him twice today and he appears to be almost back to his normal, affectionate shelf (if you ignore the tubes going in and out of him). He has to stay at the vet a couple more days to make sure his bladder is fully flushed out and doesn't get plugged up again.
