Meanwhile, inside the outhouse, a fan in a Dengar costume continues to struggle with his constipation, oblivious to the cries from outside as he summons all of his powers of concentration on moving his bowels....

Lots of incredible yarns at Scout's Swag, but I chose Cookie
because I love pink and brown.
It's one of my prettiest scarves yet, with white tufts similar to the
brown tufts of one of my early scarves.
I'm feeling really good right now. Sometimes it takes till the
end of the night to have all the hard work of the day feel good
on the body. I hobbled a lot today. Then I sat in the chair and
knitted this for a good chunk of time, and I got up surprised by
how good I felt.
I'm taking the meds again, even though there are some serious
constipation issues (sorry, Teena). I just don't think I'm ready.
I can't fall behind the pain that waits for me, so I hope to heal
quickly from this point on.
Soon I may face jail-time even for possessing let alone posting this. Scary stuff! Soylent Green is our future!
Do we have a right to know what we are eating or will we capitulate our control to Monsanto?

This little guy is obviously cute.
In this picture he is sitting on my hand where he placed himself, excited -- yet remarkably patient and fear-free -- to take the ride up so he could see what existed beyond the confines of the lit box.
What isn't so easy to see is how sweet, curious, eager, and loving he was too. Full of personality. Seriously.
Underneath it all though was also a certain sadness which I do think is easily seen here not just in the confinement but with an inbourne knowledge he seemed to possess that he was born with just one purpose and that was to be killed for just part of one meal of gluttony; a meal celebrated for over-eating and indulgence.
See, he was eaten just 5.5 months later so someone could have a supposed "guilt-free" main-dish on the "Thanksgiving" table.
Yes, yes... certainly his life was marginally better than the vast majority of turkeys that are killed each year for that same one-day meal. Their lives are truly horrendous as is the everyday lives of the other 9 billion poultry (mostly chickens) that are consumed each year in the United States... It certainly was environmentally better, but having witnessed it first-hand (so to speak) I would not call it fun, or even comfortable. Not a good life.
Despite the chicks being raised on a farm run by some of the most conscientious people I've ever known. It's still about catering to the humans and the bottom-line.
The chicks went from a plywood box of confinement in a barn to a bigger one outside that was moveable so they did always have real dirt under them but green only on occasion and the majority of their existance was spent in a crowded box looking out over the world they would never experience (except for all the weather because they had no real shelter) being fed commodity type crops (though at least organic but that was more for those who would eat them than for the turkey's comfort and benefit as it was still the cheapest that would get them fattest in time for the ultimate dinner).
It was so sad to me that I could hardly visit the last few weeks because I saw these little lives lose more will each passing day so that even in the end they would not bother to come for the fresh greens and fruit I would bring them in my effort to make their prison slightly less unbearable.
For me, it strengthened my resolve not to be a part, a cause of this cruelty that is still arguably not healthful so really only for a selfish indulgence.
For this little guy though, it's all over. A couple days after being killed he was so much constipation, and then sewer-effluent.
Maybe someday beings from another planet will land here and do the same to us. Maybe then we'll understand.
Until then, everyone should have to raise their own meals (and maybe send their own children out to be raised by others...).

Khat consumption induces mild euphoria and excitement. A meta-analysis in The Lancet has stated that khat creates a pleasuring effect to the same degree as ecstasy. Individuals become very talkative under the influence of the drug and may appear to be unrealistic and emotionally unstable. Khat can induce manic behaviors and hyperactivity. Khat is an effective anorectic and its use also results in constipation. Dilated pupils (mydriasis), which are prominent during khat consumption, reflect the sympathomimetic effects of the drug, which are also reflected in increased heart rate and blood pressure. A state of drowsy hallucinations (hypnagogic hallucinations) may result coming down from khat use as well. Withdrawal symptoms that may follow occasional use include mild depression and irritability. Withdrawal symptoms that may follow prolonged khat use include lethargy, mild depression, nightmares, and slight tremor. Long-term use can precipitate the following effects: negative impact on liver function, permanent tooth darkening (of a greenish tinge), susceptibility to ulcers, and diminished sex drive. Those who abuse the drug generally cannot stay without it for more than 4-5 days, feeling tired and having difficulty concentrating. Occasionally a psychosis can result. It resembles a hypermanic state in presentation.
Its funny, the things you see on the side of the road out in the country. We found a toilet and couldn't resist the photo opportunity!

A wild riot of colour as thousands celebrate London's Gay Pride Parade 2011. London 02.07.2011
This Saturday July 2nd 2011 saw the explosion of colour and fabulous carnival/cabaret fancy-dress which is the annual Gay Pride parade passing through the packed London streets as many Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender groups representing special interest campaigning groups, trade unions, the armed forces, police service, christian groups and several of London's gay bars and clubs celebrated their sexuality and diversity, watched and cheered on by tens of thousands of enthusiastic members of the public.
The days celebrations were purposefully snubbed by London mayor Boris Johnson much to the anger and irritation of many, since Mr. Johnson is expected to show support for all Londoners. However, his greatest opponent in the upcoming mayoral elections, former London Mayor Ken Livingstone was to be seen - as always - at the head of the parade, accompanied by human and gay rights activist Peter Tatchell.
Gone was the nervous tension of the original trail-blazing Gay Pride marches of the late 1970's and early 80's, as a new generation of gay people enjoy far greater public acceptance of their lifestyle in what feel like more enlightened times. What is taken for granted now was fought for in the past by courageous activists and their political supporters who wanted to see an end to the homophobic bigotry and institutionalised discrimination which used to be the universal public position towards them.
Having said that, there was a demonstration set up at the bottom of Waterloo Place by a group of so-called Christians from the Baptist Church - some of whom looked like they had been time-warped directly from the 1950's, complete with emotional constipation - who spent the entire afternoon insulting and demeaning all gay people and anyone who accepts homosexuality as a part of the enormously wide spectrum of human sexuality by cherry-picking snippets from the Bible completely without proper context, and generally showing themselves up to be nothing more than a bunch of hate-filled bigots who hilariously claim to love the people they were standing there belittling.
My photos of the Baptists and the crowd's reactions to being assaulted by the pious abuse are already uploaded in my set "Baptists preach intolerance at Gay Pride Parade".
After the parade made its way from Portland Place to Trafalgar Square, the marchers and bystanders alike dispersed into Soho for some serious street partying which lasted late into the night. There was a main stage in Trafalgar Square which hosted a long rosta of minor-league pop and dance acts during the afternoon, though oddly this year there were no big-name headliners, and another Dance Stage in Soho Square which featured a great line-up of club DJs.

So my high school dance is tonight and I'm getting ready to leave, but I thought you guys deserved a picture.
Might as well go ahead and count this as a tag even though I don't think I've been tagged in a while...but yeah.
Created during the Chinese Ming Dynasty as durable rations for soldiers. Light, long-lasting and the Sesame seeds supposedly help blood circulation and constipation.
As it would harden over time, soldiers would soak this in water to make it soft and more palatable again.

Pictured Above: Indian Opo Curry made with opo squash.
Recipe for Indian Opo Curry
Ingredients:
1 Opo (cut into small cubes)
1 tomato (cut into small cubes)
2 Tbsps of clarified butter (pure Indian Ghee)
1/4 tsp Turmeric
2-4 curry leaves (purchase in Indian markets)
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp channa daal
2 tsps coriander/cilantro leaves
Salt to taste
In a vessel or dish, pour the ghee and heat it for a minute and add the cumin seeds, channa daal, mustard seeds, turmeric, and curry leaves. Once the seeds pop out or make noise then add the opo into the dish and mix it well with other ingredients and cook it for 5 minutes and then add the tomato and salt to taste. Stir it again and cook it for 10 minutes or until soft. In the end garnish it with the cilantro leaves.
2) General Info about the Opo Squash.
Opo is one of the best vegetables to be had all year around, especially in the summer as it's very light on the stomach and is easy to digest. In general any squash is a good source of fiber and it helps relieve constipation, flatulence and piles. Always have the Opo squash in the cooked form, raw Opo may be harmful for your stomach and intestines.
Opo is a long narrow variety of squash, very similar to zucchini in flavor, that is often considered to be of African decent, but common in southern Europe and Asia. Grown most often in warmer climates, this squash grows from 6 to 36 inches long and 3 to 12 inches in diameter. The outer skin can range in color from yellow to green while the inner flesh, which contains seeds, is firm textured and white in color. When young, the squash has a mild flavor, but as it matures the taste becomes increasingly bitter. When it is allowed to grow larger in size, it is often used as containers, thus the alternate name of "bottle gourd." It is a good squash for sautéing, stir-frying, or as an ingredient for soups and stews. It can be kept refrigerated for approximately 1 week.
In addition to bottle gourd, other names commonly referred to for this squash are: calabash, Italian edible gourd, long fruited gourd, long melon, long squash, peh poh, woo lo kua, hu lu gua, New Guinea bean, Tasmania bean, snake gourd, suzza melon, or zuzza. The name given to this squash in other countries include: yugao (Japanese), po gua (Cantonese), kwa kwa or hu gua (Chinese), upo (Filipino), cucuzzi or cucuzza (Italian), bau (Vietnamese), and dudhi or lauki (Indian).
