Since 1992, badminton has been a Summer Olympic sport with five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
The shuttlecock cone is formed from 16 or so overlapping feathers, usually goose or duck, embedded into a rounded cork base. The cork is covered with thin leather. To ensure that shuttlecock rotate consistently, only feathers from the birds' left wings are used. Feather shuttles may come off the strings at speeds in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph).

In this picture the landscape and the skyscape were photographed separately, in two different places. However the scenery is realistic: the sky area is consistent with the the geographical orientation of the landscape. This image is an example of the wonderful spectacle we would witness if there was no light pollution.
¡Jajaja!
Feliz fin de semana para todos!
Sunsets in Maui are consistently spectacular because of the unobstructed ocean views to the west. The sunlight always has a way of sneaking up under the clouds to splash bright crimson and gold colors across the sky.
------------------------
A big thank you to all for your visits, your comments, and your favorites too, which are always very much appreciated.
The territorial sound manifestation with singing value is drumming.
Both sexes drum in spring, but the male drums more frequently and consistently.
The drumming of the great spotted woodpecker is typical in that it is brief (1–2 seconds) and the frequency of the beats of each salvo increases slightly. It is a very frequent manifestation in the spring at the time of pairing and demarcation of the territory.
It has been calculated that an unpaired male can drum up to 600 times a day.

The word flysch comes from German and it means to slide.
They are perfectly delimited rocky strata that were formed at the bottom of the ocean by decantation of sediments and shells of marine organisms, in a process that lasts millions of years, in this case it seems that up to 60.
These strata intersperse hard layers with other softer ones. Erosion causes these less consistent layers to wear away more easily. Thus, little by little, the hard layers become more exposed, withstanding more erosion while protecting the soft ones.
Alfa Romeo Nuova Super 1300 (1974-1977)
it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Giulia#La_Nuova_Super
"the 1300 fastest sedan on the 1974 market", and still in the acceleration from standstill "the time on the kilometer from standstill [...] is still the best obtained by sedans 1300".
I understood then, with absolute certainty, that the

Sunset on Manhattan skyline from Pier 1.This is my second images of the series "Postcards from New York". Since New York is a city that moves fast, most of the images of this series were taken with slow shutter speed for two reasons. First, give the sense of movement. Second, I have used a slow shutter speed to contrast the idea that everything has to move fast but even in New York you can stop and take your time to enjoy the world.
Manhattan Skyline from Pier 1 is one of the iconic locations for taking “postcards picture” of New York. This image was taken at the sunset. We arrived there early to be sure of finding a good spot, since this is a very popular spot among photographers. We elected to stay on the rocks facing the skyline. The image was taken with a ND 10 stop filter. The idea was to wait for the blue hour and while I got a couple of very satisfactory image at that time, my favorite image of that evening is this one because the reflection of the light in the water and the double “sunburst” created by the reflection of the sun on the skyscraper. I usually try to get my images consistently with 3:2 proportion (with exception of landscape that are 16:9), but for this one from this location I think that the 16:9 crop is the best option because otherwise I would have too much the sky or too much of the water.
Early on into shooting this recent series I came to a conclusion, I've grown bored of my hair. I have several styles but always kept a consistent color scheme and ya know what? I'm over it! When I first journeyed into Second Life I played a character who changed her hair style and color on a whim, she was a criminal that always had a different look so a pattern couldn't be established, and somehow here as Aliyah I've kept the same color for two years!
Well I've grown bored and just like my photo stream it's time to change things up. I've still got a few shots left with the old color, I think only one in this series, but I'm over it. I've changed a lot in the last year, and with me being one week away from my Flickrversary, it was well past time to make a switch.

After years of suffering, finally the ghost/temporary lake of Cerknica (it is a karstic lake as better specified in many photos of the past) returns to cover, over the long term, a vast surface of its large basin, which measures 40km2 and can be covered with water almost totally, something that hasn't happened since March 2018, roughly.
In these cases it becomes, by far, the largest lake in Slovenija (up to almost 4x Lake Bohinj), although with a low average depth, mainly between 0.5 and 2m, facilitating rich vegetation and aquatic fauna composed of still water fish (the biggest are Carp, Chub, Tench and Pike) and a large variety of amphibians.
The lake is also rich in poultry fauna, in particular storks and gray herons, and many migrant species.
Unfortunately in 2022, for the first time in its history (those who follow my photostream probably remember it, with "my area" shots inserted in strictly chronological order), the drying up of all the not embanked large part (the embanked part represents just 0.1% of the entire lake basin and was in any case reduced by 90%), caused an incalculable death of fish, while a significant part of amphibians survived by digging deep burrows in the mud.
This is just to say that you can't have "the wine bottle full and be drunk", as people would like expecting to be in the shade of lush vegetation wanting sun for 365 days a year.
It is ONLY thanks to my beloved "bad weather" that a healthy and flourishing nature can be appreciated.
"It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone."
-Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy
🌲Tree resin (along with other gum and latex fluids) plays an extremely important function in trees by rapidly sealing over wounds used as introductory pathways by invading insects and fungal disease agents. Organisms that try to enter a tree via a wound can be flushed out, can become stuck and trapped in the seal and can be overcome by the resin's toxicity. In any event, consistent resin flow is essential to the continued health of most conifers.
I don't remember summer's getting this consistently hot.......104 in Spokane today and thru this weekend. We hit 109 last summer. Summer's aren't what they used to be.
I wanted a cool memory so thought I'd post a favorite chilly experience I shared with dear friend Sergio. Capturing the sunset over iconic Peyto Lake was the objective. We slogged above the common viewing platform, which was vacant for some reason....We were here for a couple hours waiting for the color to pop, but it didn't much. Regardless we had a fabulous time bracing against the blasts of winds and snow. Tripods were mostly useless against the whirling winds. We were bundled up well so wasn't that bad. The beauty was entrancing. Returning to our car was a much quicker trip....wheeee. I feel relief just remembering this grand time.
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend. Keep safe and cool.
Forbidden City by Indo Chine
Consistently rated among the preeminent establishments at Singapore’s mega-popular Clarke Quay nightlife precinct, The Forbidden City has for years been attracting crowds of discerning diners and party goers with its multi-faceted offerings. Occupying the majestic Singapore waterfront building- The River House- which has been listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO- the building was originally a 19th Century river front godown, later converted into the palatial residence of a wealthy trader. Operated by Singapore’s renowned IndoChine Group, the building has, while maintaining its historic structure and facade, been extensively re-modelled internally into a collection of stylish restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

This is consistent with a first spring male (born last year) in view of the greenish edged primaries and secondaries (flight feathers seen to the left of the white handkerchief).
My shutter speed was a bit slower for a singing shot then I would like. Should ideally be at least 1/500, but the tripod saved the image... albeit slightly soft.

The snow Virga, descending, on the whole shot, from the cloud above, in random order, tormented, curled, weakened, up to about 500m of altitude, sublimates for the whole path and totally at that altitude.
The central one, on the contrary, more dense and lower, manages to sublimate only partly, while the other part liquefies in rain (which has a completely different density, clearly highlighting the passage in which the water lets the sunlight pass almost completely), however weakened by the continuation of factors (attenuated by Sea humidity!) that led to sublimation in the form, now, of evaporation, but the space between the entrainment of the large virga (which appears as an elongation of the cloud, but is not) and the sea surface is too short, thanks also to the absence of winds and, in fact, to a greater humidity in the air.

Lamy Design
Lamy writing instruments have their own unmistakable design language. A Lamy is a Lamy - and you can see it!
The reason for this is the characteristic Lamy design, which is based on a clear language of form and consistent orientation towards practical use.
No design element is random, but is always developed from the function. This means that Lamy writing instruments are not fashionable, but always modern - and therefore timeless.
International designers
Each of these writing instruments is unique in its function, its aesthetics, its suitability for different writing occasions. And yet they are all unmistakably Lamy. They are always developed in
with renowned international designers and design studios, including Franco Clivio, Naoto Fukasawa, sieger design and Jasper Morrison.

Several Canvasbacks have taken up winter residence at one of our regional parks. An uncommon bird, they have been briefly seen the last couple of years. However, this winter they are consistent, males and females. This particular stretch by a male I thought was extraordinary.
Wishing you all happy holidays full of good memories and thankfulness.
I hope everyone will be as lucky as me to have met someone who never gave up on me, remains consistent despite my mood swings and tired days. Always tries to understand beyond language barriers and culture. I finally experience what it feels to have a real relationship where someone actually listens and actions speaks louder than words. Someone who gives you time to be YOU and yet stays by your side.

Early last December, I was consistently seeing a pair of Eurasian collared doves in Lake Meyer Park. After a very severe Christmas cold snap, one collared dove disappeared and probably perished due to the cold. Today I was delighted to see two collared doves here in the park again, so our lonely winter resident now has a new roommate!
Interesting juxtaposition of a cattle farm against a Wind Farm. I captured this image while visiting the southernmost point in the Big Island of Hawaii and, for that matter, in the United States.
The Tawhiri Power LLC is an independent power producer that supplies electricity for the State of Hawaii. The Pakini Nui Wind Farm is Tawhiri's principle project and is located near South Point on the Big Island of Hawaii. Since 2007, the wind farm has supplied approximately 18,000 Hawaiian homes per year with a green and renewable source of electrical power.
About the Wind Farm:
The south point area of Hawaii is one of the best places in the world for a wind farm because of its exceptionally strong and consistent trade winds. As as result, Tawhiri Power LLC selected this location for the Pakini Nui Wind Farm.
Construction of the wind farm began in August of 2006 and was completed in early 2007. On April third, 2007 the wind farm began commercial operation. There are a total of fourteen General Electric 1.5 Mega-Watt SE turbines at Pakini Nui. These turbines can provide nearly 21 Mega-Watts of electricity for the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Pakini Nui Wind Farm is located 7 miles down South Point Road from its junction with Route 11.
Perhaps the most consistently attractive habitat in North America to wintering snowy owls in modern times may be airports, which not only tend to have the flat, grassy characteristics of their preferred habitats but also by winter host a particular diversity of prey, both pests which rely on humans as well as wildlife attracted to the extensively grassy and marshy strips that dot the large airport vicinities.

A group of people enjoying a hot air balloon ride from a perspective below the basket. The image highlights the experience of aerial travel and the human element of adventure and sightseeing.
The primary subject is a hot air balloon basket filled with passengers. The people are casually dressed and appear to be tourists or adventurers, with several individuals waving or using their phones to take photos. The wicker basket, a traditional element of hot air balloons, is a prominent feature.
The photo is taken from a low angle, looking up at the balloon. This perspective emphasizes the scale and height of the balloon, making the passengers and basket appear to be suspended high in the sky. The balloon's dark fabric and the basket's texture stand out against the clear blue background.
The lighting is bright and natural in a clear day ideal for flying. The overall mood is one of excitement and joy, captured by the passengers' expressions and gestures. The image evokes a sense of freedom and the unique experience of viewing the world from above.
The image is sharp, with good focus on the basket and its occupants, while the sky provides a simple, uncluttered background that makes the subject stand out. The clarity of the image is consistent with modern photography techniques that allow for clear shots from a distance.

Today we was in the vet.
Altought Rubio had less sneezes and snots today, the diagnosis was bad. The radiographs shows some spots in one lung consistent with pneumonia or cancer.
Tomorrow we have to go for doing more test, and surely a fine needle biopsy.
Hard to say but I cross my fingers wishing Rubito only had a pneumonia.

Well I really do hope my contributions and comments on Flickr will be more consistent in 2026. Having now got my garden office ‘christened’ and replaced my ailing 6 year old PC plus sorted out storage of photos I hope I’m more prepared. I still have a hell of a backlog of shoots to go through.
Anyway, not sure if this will be my last posting of 2025 or not but, in case it is, I thought I’d go for this shot that I took from the boardwalk at Saw Mill Pond on the morning after the workshop had finished. A fog warning for the area had been issued the night before but I’ve certainly driven in a thicker fog over here in the UK. I couldn’t pass up the chance to try my luck at the nearby Caddo Lake State Park as during the workshop there had been hardly a trace of mist/fog. Luckily I’d spoken to one of the park attendants the day before to find out how early I could enter and how to pay the entrance fee before anyone was on duty.
This shot was taken towards the end of my visit when the mist had started to clear. The shape of these trees really suit a foggy scene imo.
I’d like to sign off my wishing all of you that follow me, comment on my photos or just view them a very Merry Christmas (sorry I dislike the phrase Happy Christmas for some reason) and hope that you and your families have whatever type of Christmas you want be it busy, spontaneous or quiet. I prefer the quiet type myself. The world is not the happiest of places overall but there is beauty out there and all of us on here try to remind one another of this be it through landscapes, wildlife, street, car. plane etc etc photography. I am sure that if not for photography over the last years my mental state would be a lot worse.
Enjoy the festive period with your family and friends and see you on the other side.

Zerene Stacker 120 subs. Two speed lights - snoot to the right and reflector bowl with grid about 30 degrees off-axis to left. The shell is 2.25 inches in greatest dimension.
We found this beautiful shell several years ago in Myakka State Park, which consists mostly of a freshwater marsh. My semi-educated guess is that this is an Apple Snail shell. The Florida apple snail is 2-3 inches in size, consistent with this specimen of 2.25 inches. There are four exotic species that are highly invasive, and are now widespread throughout freshwater ecosystems in Florida. They were introduced in the 1980s through the aquarium trade.
