Berlin boasts two zoological gardens, a consequence of decades of political and administrative division of the city. The older one, called Zoo Berlin, founded in 1844, is situated in what is now called the "City West". It is the most species-rich zoo worldwide. The other one, called Tierpark Berlin ("Animal Park"), was established on the long abandoned premises of Friedrichsfelde Manor Park in the eastern borough of Lichtenberg, in 1954. Covering 160 ha, it is the largest landcape zoo in Europe.
(Tierpark Berlin)

The unique animal world of the Himalayas has now found its way into an area of 60,000 m². Climbers will not only encounter well-known mountain dwellers such as red pandas, snow leopards and bearded vultures, but also lesser-known species such as takin, goral, Pallas'scat and satyr tragopan. After a construction period of just over a year, the 60-metre-high mountain of rubble was transformed into an Asian mountain landscape with numerous new vantage points. Around 100 individuals from 22 different animal species - most of them endangered in the wild - have found their new home in Berlin's high mountains. (Source: Tierpark Berlin)
Type 'l' to see large. Repeat to return.
Had a new visitor to my bird feeding setup today. Think it was because I'm cutting away a strip of the lawn to make a border and he was looking carefully for any upturned worms. Got another shot of him perched on the spade handle which I'll post later. This was taken at 8 pm and sunset this evening was at 19:09 so although there was still daylight the light level was low and so II had to use a very high ISO setting on the camera to allow the sensor to be sensitive enough to the low light. . (ISO 3200 - In consequence, there's inevitable graininess in the image)

Unfortunately, this kind of belated justice led in most cases to the restitution of immovables either to people who had severed all ties with Romania decades ago and don't care about the fate of those buildings, or to the real estate mafia, the most anti-communist group in Romania.
Anti-communism is the political source of the cheapest estates they can grab from the public. The anti-communist real estate mafia is a huge scavanger making a fortune by invoking anti-communism to steal from the public.

As a natural consequence of the ever more complex gadgets and services, the need for some kind of software assistant arose. Going by many names and varying in functions and intelligence, Personal AIs are now a natural part of every mans day to day life. Personal AIs takes care of transactions, shopping, booking and household chores. Some people find it amusing to give their AIs personality and treat them as pets, others just use them as tools.
Personal AIs can transfer small parts of their core to machines in order to carry out various tasks. Shells are robotic machines that come in thousands of variants. Most Shells have their own governing AIs but they can also merge with Personal AIs and transfer their subroutines to them. Not many people can afford to choose other than the cheapest versions, but theoretically an AI can inhabit any Shell. Creative ways of using shells can of course be shared and downloaded by the AIs.
The Yogamabara Mechanization M-400 Multi-Purpose Shell is a commonly used type of shell. It’s very fast and agile. It gives the host AI the ability to follow it’s client around any ground based environment and has a full range of standard tools, like laser cutter, hydro spanners and standard data sockets to name a few. It’s animal-like form gives it personality and this has made Yogamabara one of the biggest manufacturers of Personal AI Shells.
Get yours today! Let your personal AI schedule a meeting and a free* testrun!
* Your AI will be analyzed and mined for suspicious behaviour, transactions and interactions.
Taken for Macro Mondays"Layer" theme. Each shell is about the size of a little finger nail. I suppose I could have done this last week!
Stay safe people and keep your distance from others. It's not worth the possible consequences.

Edited NASA image of an iceberg, but unfortunately I don't remember which pole... near Greenland, seen in the sunset.
Original caption: Sea level rise is a natural consequence of the warming of our planet.
We know this from basic physics. When water heats up, it expands. So when the ocean warms, sea level rises. When ice is exposed to heat, it melts. And when ice on land melts and water runs into the ocean, sea level rises.
For thousands of years, sea level has remained relatively stable and human communities have settled along the planet’s coastlines. But now Earth’s seas are rising. Globally, sea level has risen about eight inches since the beginning of the 20th century and more than two inches in the last 20 years alone.
All signs suggest that this rise is accelerating.

Caption: An iceberg floats in Disko Bay, near Ilulissat, Greenland, on July 24, 2015. The massive Greenland ice sheet is shedding about 300 gigatons of ice a year into the ocean, making it the single largest source of sea level rise from melting ice.

This photo is a nice consequence of seasonal timing, it takes about 40 min for the Moon to rise to clear these hills which is enough time to gain the altitude to be clear of near horizon distortion effects and being at the Summer solstice results in the Moon rise occurring in a predawn that is well enough lit to create the blue sky but dark enough to make the Moon silver colored. The presence of Venus made it that much better, it is just too bad the occultation of Venus occurred hours before. It is also fortunate that the smoke from the huge Bighorn forest fire cleared enough not degrade the Moonrise.
I failed to lock down the ball head enough to prevent movement when i pushed the shutter button. Hence the camera tilted just enough to capture this abstract of the forest. Much better technique than my usual efforts at photography, huh? Maybe i am on to something here :)
Mr Spock Did not take well to having a Foster Dog for a few days, so he is trying to camouflage himself in a cupboard.
31/10/2019; Had the day off from work last Thursday, and the weather was good. So then you start to think where you could all go to, only to have second thoughts with everything that you came up with. And then you just end up in good old Amsterdam...
And unrelated, but it was only when I was making my preparations for this upload that I found out the Grasshopper no longer has a coffeeshop section. For over 5 years already. XD

Darwin's beetle, Grant's stag beetle, or the Chilean stag beetle. Charles Darwin collected the species in Chile during the second voyage
Variable in size and in the development of the jaws and exhibits a strong sexual dimorphism. Males can reach a length of 60–90 millimetres (2.4–3.5 in) including the mandibles, while females are much smaller, having a body length of 25–37 millimetres (0.98–1.46 in). The upper mandibles of the males are very robust at the base, finely serrated and longer than the body itself.
C. grantii is considered a rare and vulnerable species, with a high probability of extinction, mainly as a consequence of the global climate change.
The male's over-sized jaws are crucial in its objective to secure a mate. It climbs trees, often climbing many meters, searching for a female. As it climbs and searches for females, it also seeks out other males in the vicinity. When two males meet, they fight. Males use their jaws in combat: they hook them under the opposite beetle's wings, pull up and throw their opponent to the ground (from 20 meters above, as they are in great trees most of the time).
I have seen big numbers dead under the big trees.
They can fly ...scary!

As a consequence of the UK lockdown my grandson is sadly unable to visit us.
This has however meant that I can uncover the pond. As a result, the local wildlife are taking full advantage of the opportunity, presented to them.
Keep safe everyone.

She followed me out to shovel snow and had to suffer the consequences. :)
I'd like to say it's snowing here but in truth I threw an unpacked snowball at her and was trying to catch her reaction. I had no idea it would fall apart so beautifully.
The mouth of the river Platani is a place of great naturalistic beauty dominated by Capo Bianco cliff. It represents the first staging area for several migratory birds coming from Africa and, thanks to the diversification of the environments, it offers shelter to a luxuriant and variegated flora and, as a consequence, to a rich and heterogeneous avifauna. The reserve includes the final stretch of the river Platani (which, before flowing into the sea, forms a large bend) and the long sandy stretch of Borgo Bonsignore, bordered by a bar of low dunes..
