First Lady Georganne and Gov. Jay Nixon visited the Edward Ted and Pat Jones Confluence State Park on Sept. 17, 2010. The role that both rivers played in the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804, and the history of the rivers, are interpreted at the park in outdoor exhibits. A short interpretive trail, subject to frequent flooding, takes visitors to the confluence point.

I've been wanting to capture a scene where night and day meet for a while now, but it wasn't until today that all the pieces came together - sunrise, moon in the right place in the sky, the right type and amount of cloud cover, and last but certainly not least, me standing there with camera in hand. I couldn't pick a favourite from these six, so I've posted them all.

Went up to the cross @ the confluence to get outa the house, air conditioner is broke, and thought maybe I'd see some fireworks come sunset over Illinois, or Missouri. Instead I got this, by backing up to the flag, put my head&camera against the flag pole and I was able to get the Cross, and the flag in the shot! The moment just seemed to speak to me, both images go hand in hand.... 7/3/06

The French city of Lyon lies at the junction of the Rhône and the Saône.

Former capital of the Gauls at the time of the Roman Empire, Lyon is the seat of an archbishopric whose holder bears the title of Primate of the Gauls. Lyon became a major economic hub during the Renaissance. Lyon was historically an important area for the production and weaving of silk. Lyon played a significant role in the history of cinema: it is where Auguste and Louis Lumière invented the cinematograph.

Neighborhood of the “Confluence”

La Confluence is located at the southern end of the Presqu'île district, near the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône.

A former industrial district, La Confluence was home to the wholesale market and a port that supplied the city with goods arriving by river, as well as factories and prisons. Following the gradual closure of factories at the end of the 20th century, the urban project of Confluence made it possible, from 2009, to extend the city to the south and thus double the surface area of downtown Lyon. A model of contemporary urbanism, where development has been thought as a whole: housing, shops and services, leisure, transport modes and environmental preservation.
