Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens.
Their flight is fast and direct and they walk and run confidently on the ground. Noisy and gregarious, starlings spend a lot of the year in flocks.
Still one of the commonest of garden birds, its decline elsewhere makes it a Red List species.

Our cat always stays around our house. This time she followed us confidently, even over the bridge....
Six-year-old school children making speeches at their graduation ceremony. Near Santiago City in the Philippines, March 2007.
These ceremonies must be a real ordeal for such young children. This one lasted well over two hours with the children only receiving their awards right at the end. The rest of the time was taken up with political speeches (it was election time) and a few presentations (singing and dancing) by some of the children. See the set (and below) for more pictures from just one ceremony I attended in March 2007.
A young Aeta boy projects an air of confidence when he looks straight into my camera while he remains seated on his knees just in front of some bananas which his older sister and their grandmother sell at the front yard of the Saint James parish church during the celebration of its first Sunday morning mass for the new year.
The Aeta is the aborigine of Zambales, whose physical characteristics are dark skin tone, short stature and curly to Afro-textured hair.
Captured in Subic, in the above-mentioned Philippine province.
a close up shot with the Nikon 70-200 f4, although this lens focuses rather close, but the contrast drops exponentially when near the minimum focus distance, thus a fair amount of contrast is needed in post processing to bring back the IQ

I wonder if other photographers have the following experience. You arrive at a stunning location, take loads of photographs and leave confident that you've nailed it, only to discover that when you look at the images, nothing comes close to reproducing the feeling of actually being there. Something is missing.
This is one such example. I discovered this beautiful location quite by accident, luckily was able to get parked nearby and had a wonderful time taking photographs from all sorts of angles in the beautiful spring light. When I returned home and started working on the images, I didn't have a single one that lived up to my expectations (and I took plenty). This is the best I could manage and it's well short of what I hoped for. I'm definitely going back to try again.
