Standing tall, proudly and confident but two of them kept a close eye on me !!

We always see Kildeer, on our travels, at different locations. The Kildeer is one of the most successful of all shorebirds because of its fondness for human-modified habitats and its willingness to nest close to people. This was the first time we spotted a baby Kildeer. Downy young leave the nest soon after hatching. Young are tended by both parents but feed themselves. We are not sure how old this little one is, but he/she seemed very confident as it foraged around the pond for food.

My girl Luna. She turns 14 in September. She is smart, confident, loyal and knows how to say NO. It's hard to imagine life without her....yet I know it's coming. Each day is a gift of wonderment.

Our boy Frenchie who is 15 years old now. He has earned the right to be exactly who he wants to be. He's a fun, lovable boy. Someone left him on the side of a busy road in a crate in New Jersey when he was a pup. My daughters family adopted him soon after and he became a part of our family. He migrated to my house about 7 years ago as this boy needs lots of exercise and I have acreage for him to run.

I have seen already so many pictures on flickr of flower fields in Holland and elswhere. So here are mine, both taken from a very low point of view.

My goodness how far we've come from the first time I saw this Magpie as a fledgling on October 18th, 2021. Not yet an independent adult bird, not even confident enough to take food from my hand, but a young Magpie bold enough to come to my backdoor and sing for its supper. A bird bold enough to come inside if the door is open, and confident enough to sit on the back of a dining room chair and catch food thrown to it.

This afternoon it sang at my backdoor and when I appeared, it sat on a flower box and waited for me to throw food its way. A confident and sassy bird who will do well in life and know great success in the world of both birds and humans. Gotta love my Magpies.

When you do a a self-drive 'safari' (i.e. without trackers and guides who are in radio contact) in one of South Africa's national parks, finding a leopard is the ultimate sighting. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - where this leopard lives free and wild - is one of the world's largest national park systems, covering a total of 37 256 square kilometers (14 384.6 sq miles). The South African side has four tourist roads, two that cut across the dunes and two that follow the ancient riverbeds of the Nossob and the Auob.

Leopards in the Kgalagadi have the largest recorded ranges in the world - 2 104.4 square kilometers (812.5 sq miles) for males and 1 258.5 square kilometers (485.9 sq miles) for females.

The Yellow-billed Kite (Milvus aegyptius) is one of Africa’s most adaptable raptors, effortlessly gliding over towns, wetlands, and open countryside. Recognised by its forked tail and distinctive yellow bill, it is a skilful opportunist, feeding on everything from insects to fish and scraps. Agile and confident in flight, this kite is a familiar sight across much of West Africa, where it plays an important role in keeping ecosystems in balance.

This is likely the first bird of prey you will encounter in Ghana. They are quite common and dominate the skies however the observant birdwatcher should also see the migrant competitor the black kite also working the skies especially near the coasts. Their abundance does not make it any easier to get a good picture as the sun is almost always behind them and their dark feathers make it even more challenging. This one was willing to fly lower for some snacky opportunity nearby.
