Here, Autumn is in full swing!
The weather matches the season of moodiness, you see it in people, scurrying, hurrying, collar high, head retracted, hands in pockets, no, no sun today.
In the studio, the lights are my suns, lol.
Making these maple leaves bright and beautiful.
Next, a grand celebration of Autumn.
My neighbour grows this lovely vine... it is now absolutely delightful.
They offered me some and I brought the leaves into the studio and made a few compositions.
First thing you see of course are the colours in this grapevine leaf... but then the eye gets drawn in to complexity of the texture, all the veins, the small bumps, little scars due to weather or ‘visitors’?
Wishing you a wonderful day and as always, thank you for visiting, Magda, (*_*)

Portrait of a Cornflower.
The cornflower is considered a beneficial weed and its edible flower can be used for culinary decoration, for example to add colour to salads.
Cornflowers have been used and prized historically for their blue pigment.
Cornflowers are often used as an ingredient in some tea blends and herbal teas and is famous in the Lady Grey blend of Twinings.
With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)

FALLEN GLORY...
I love Autumn; I perceive it as a time of 'reflection', look back on the past of this year, remembering the joys of spring, the warmth of summer... and always the light!
It can be a bit nostalgic, the days get shorter, the shadows grow taller, however... the evenings get longer... it is cosy, bring out some candles, we seem to get ready for the 'hibernation', being more inside, wondering what this season has in store, will it be wet?
Will it be cold? Will it be white?
A long autumn and short winter, or a short autumn, making winter seem endless?
Here the days now start quite misty, but the sun is still strong enough to burn it off, the evenings are cold, the skies are most beautiful, with sunsets to die for...
In a sudden burst, the leaves change from tired-looking into this magic coat of colours.
If lucky the fun can last, but it often takes only a few stormy hours to make it a multi-coloured carpet, baring the now skeletal trees.
Food for the roots, the new leaves next year... and so it goes on... year after year...
A COLOURFUL GOOD-BYE!
Taken in the studio, it was an 'easy' one to light!
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

There are plenty of myths and legends behind the white rose.
As one myth has it, the first rose on Earth was a white rose, and it miraculously transformed to other hues.
The pure white rose was said to have been tainted by blood, making it red; and it was also made to blush from a kiss, making it pink.
Another myth came from the Ancient Greeks.
It was said that roses were originally white until one day Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and Beauty pricked herself with the thorns of a rose.
The blood that dripped from her finger turned the white roses red.
These myths indicate the loss of innocence, which is the absolute opposite of what the white rose symbolises ñ innocence and purity

MAPLECOPTER-MEMORIES
Speak of childhood memories!!!
Also found under a tree in bonnie Scotland.
Maple trees (Acer) produce winged seeds called double samaras, which twirl to the ground in late summer or early fall.
They resemble helicopters in motion, earning them the common name of helicopters or whirligigs.
The seeds vary slightly in size and colouring among species, but all produce winged seeds affectionately called helicopters.
The innocent fun you could have with those twirly thingies, throwing them up, running after them (kept us fit!), guarding and treasuring your 'best' ones!
Used the ring flash on this.
Now, DO NOT rush out to get one of those!
It is not a priority, has quite 'limited' usage, is particular and specific and not the easiest to use!
I use it together with other sources of lighting, but that's my game, my challenge (obsession?) literally PLAYING and PAINTING with light.
Have a fun day and thank you, M, (*_*)

Tall and colourful hollyhocks give height and beauty to English gardens.
They are often found around doorways, where they add to the vertical dimension of the planting, forming a vital part of that thatched cottage look.
Also referred to as Althea Rosea.
Hollyhocks are very drought resistant, and do well in full sun locations that might be too hot or dry for other plants.
The stems of hollyhocks can be used as firewood, and the roots have been used medicinally.
You can take seeds and grow from singles, never from doubles!
Is the case for many plants!

Lilium longiflorum.
And I have a demanding presence!
Also a most pleasant fragrance.
This plant is native to Japan and the Ryukyu Islands.
It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers.
I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour.

Lilium longiflorum.
This plant is native to Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands.
It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers.
We have a family of friends that we visit every year, they breed horses, wonderful people.
They have now made it a tradition that each year, on the day of our return back home, the end of our visit/holidays, they present me with a bunch of freshly-cut Lilies (one of the sons helps on a farm where they grow them for the bulbs!).
It is a bouquet that I can barely hold my arms around, I had to buy a BIG vase and even now, they are split into two displays. Our house is filled whit the fragrance.
What wonderful friends we have all over!

Fuchsia, free, fun, they dance to the tune and rhythm of the wind.
Fuchsia flowers from the garden. So delicate and pretty and in one of my favourite colour-combinations!
Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees.
The first, Fuchsia triphylla, was discovered on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (present day Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1703 by the French Minim monk and botanist, Charles Plumier.
He named the new genus after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs
The vast majority of garden hybrids have all descended from a few parent species.

BOUND TO LIKE IT
Stems of Daffodils, I bundled them with a raffia bow...
Stems have four main functions which are:
* Support for and the elevation of leaves, flowers and fruits. The stems keep the leaves in the light and provide a place for the plant to keep its flowers and fruits.
* Transport of fluids between the roots and the shoots and blooms .
* Storage of nutrients.
* The production of new living tissue. The normal life span of plant cells is one to three years. Stems have cells called meristems that annually generate new living tissue.
The leaves are the primary food-making part of the plant. Leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air, combine it with water that comes through the roots of the plants to make food (a sugar molecule known as glucose), and release oxygen into the air.
Hope you like these energetic image, thanx for your time and visit, M, (*_*)

Warm cheer, Santé, and keep warm... Festive fragrances for Christmas
Mulled wine is a drink usually made with red wine along with various spices and fruits.
It is served hot or warm and may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
It is traditional during winter, especially around Christmas also called Glühwein.
It was first recorded as spiced and heated in First Century Rome.
The Romans travelled all across Europe, conquering much of it and trading with the rest.
The legions brought wine and viticulture with them up to the Rhine and Danube rivers and to the Scottish border bringing their recipes with them.
Very much part of tradition now!

Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterised by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae.
Prickles occur all over the plant – on surfaces such as those of the stem and flat parts of leaves.
These are an adaptation that protects the plant against herbivorous animals, discouraging them from feeding on the plant.
Interesting bit: Carduus is the Latin term for a thistle (hence cardoon, and chardon in French), and Cardonnacum is the Latin word for a place with thistles.
This is believed to be the origin of name of the Burgundy village of Chardonnay, Saône-et-Loire, which in turn is thought to be the home of the famous Chardonnay grape variety.

Gladiolus flowers bloom on a long spike that ranges from 2 to 4 feet tall.
These beauties open from the bottom and work their way upwards creating a long spire of blooms.
The grass-like foliage resembles the blade of a sword giving these flowers a reputation as sword flowers.
The blooms range in colour from bold orange and red to pastel blues, pinks and yellows, lilacs, whites and purple.
The gladiolus flower symbolises honour and remembrance, but it has other meanings too.
It can also symbolise the following:
•Strength of character
•Faithfulness, sincerity and integrity
•Infatuation
•Never giving up

We left Whitby because of the incoming sea mist.
The light gone, not dressed on this lovely summer's day for the sudden cold that suddenly enveloped us, we decided to go inland to capture the sunset.
The road took us passed Robin Hood's Bay.
Now, on that part of the beautiful Heritage Coast, you drive along the top of the cliffs, you are high up, it was sunny again, we gave into the temptation and turned in, with Nature, you never know, maybe it was just around Whitby...
You have to park your car above the village and walk down.
Before we arrived there we wanted to let our dog out, I followed the white plume of his tail as he wandered off into a field full of wildflowers, nettles and brambles, to my amazement this was the scene that unfolded in front of my feasting eyes, the mist was already grabbing the church.
I ran for my camera, back just in time for this.
Underneath that thick blanket are the bay and the sea.
By the time Paul got his gear out, that day he had decided on a Hasselblad-day+ tripod... everything was covered in mist
Hope your day is clear, thanks for viewing, Magda, (*_*)

Aquilegia chrysantha 'Yellow Queen' .
This columbine cultivar is perennial that features large, upward facing, fragrant, bright yellow flowers with long, outward curving spurs.
Flowers grow on a long stem above the leaves and have five pointed yellow sepals and five yellow petals with long spurs projecting backwards between the sepals.
At the center of the flower are many yellow stamens.
Aquilegia comes from the Latin word for eagle in reference to the flower's five spurs which purportedly resemble an eagle's talon.

Ranunculus, a whole bouquet, all different!
I love Ranunculus, the multi-layered blooms opened beautifully, not always evident, their stems are extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom...
I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen!
With love to you and thanx , M, (* _ *)

forming a flower-carpet, they are out, for sale now, all waiting for the transplant in someone’s much loved garden.
It is still early in the year, and they tremble in the chilly wind. The flowers still quite hidden, frightened to come out.
The word primula is the Latin feminine diminutive of primus, meaning first (prime), applied to flowers that are among the first to open in Spring.
Hope this brings a bit of joy again, have a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

A metaphor, 2017 as the bud of a flower! 2016 GONE, only memories and good images left now, LOL.
Full of PROMISE of all things good, we hope for.
Petal after petal, layer after layer, day after day, week after week, it opens... with ups and downs, sunshine and rain, warm and cold, the laughter and the tears!
Get through the 'lesser' days and enjoy the 'better' days, it is like fighting through the storms and then basking in the warm sunshine.
I hope 2017 brings a LOT of SUN for you, many beautiful ‘flowers’ and above all PEACE.
Looking forward to another year filled with the beauty to all the senses that flowers provide.
Our best wishes.
Have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)
