This is the root drive of my main computer. Or, rather, it was the root drive of my main computer. Might be again at some future point depending on how well this Ubuntu installation goes on a drive I just swapped in.

Cleaned out some old stuff from the closet.

This is the "Fruby Buddy" that was chosen for this "surgery". It was acquired from a Toy-R-Us back in Iowa, on deep clearance. Bought up their entire supply, and they are sitting in a drawer here in my office waiting for their own surgeries.

The Information Technology Department creatively used discarded computer parts to celebrate the season (one of my coworkers said, "Oh, so that's why our computers don't work, the parts are all on the wall!").

 

This wreath was hand-woven by one of the programmers.

What to do when you lose power for 2 days and it's too damn hot outside? Well, you grab your camera, and the hardly used 70-300mm lens, new reflector and daughter's toys or old computer parts and practice on macro photos - until the camera battery dies.

The 1,83 GHz Intel iMac is a pain to open and upgrade. Took me at least one hour to tear away all the tape and foil to access the harddrive. This is the iMac with the LCD screen taken out. Serial ATA drive - now 1 Terabyte - in the middle.

The hard drive in Jen's 17" iMac G5 (ALS) died, so I ordered a replacement from Other World Computing. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong interface for the 320GB 3.5" Seagate drive. I ordered the top drive (SATA), and needed the bottom interface (SATA II?).

So you can see the right arm attached in place with the fiber optic cable swooping around the back, along with the arm ribbon cable in place. You can kinda see the tail sticking out of the back there as well. Please note the wires from the top, it's a stripped phone wire that's been curled (which has come uncurled since I did this) they are in the in/out sockets of the modem header using standard rj-11 plugs
