Detail photo of the back of an OLD IBM 386 ( similar to this one - if my memory doesn't fail - www.cs.cuw.edu/museum/IBMPS280.html ).

Anyhow. Lovely etched copper lanes, solidly soldered silvery tin.

Inspired by growth and expansion, more specifically growing out of one’s skin. Reminiscent of the texture and contrast of volcanoes and molten lava, and by a photograph I took of a black charred stump in Australia left with the delightful treasures of three cicada skins.

As you can see it was *cheap* at $1, took it apart carefully, saved all the pieces. There will be some cutting with the dremel later

Yeah - I had a bit of a cold while I was working on this (as can be seen by the tissues liberally littered about)

Upcycled cedar green laptop circuit board in a 2.2 cm heart shape is accented by 2 teal green resistors and attached to a 18 inch green stainless steel chain cord with screw closure. Circuit boards are cut, ground smooth on the edges and sealed with acrylic water-based sealant.

So to get the CD/DVD armature to sit nicely I had to grind off the right eye, as can be seen here. Not a lot to comment on other than that. I'm *sure* there's some people out there, about now, screaming bloody murder, unethical treatment of stuffed cute furry things, etc. Really I'm sorry, and I have a deep respect for stuffed animals, (owning more than my fair share) but that said, this is for SCIENCE!

www.recyclart.org/2016/08/birthday-present-old-computer-p...

I created this birthday present for my wife. I wanted to make something unique and original. I had this idea to use old computer parts (I am software engineer) to make the messages that express my feelings to her through these pictures. I used about 15 old laptops and two desktops. The implementation was quite simple, I had to disassemble mostly keyboards, CPUs, fans, power supplies, connectors and cut some cables. Then I just glued it to frames to create the messages.

WAY too much thermal compound on CPU

My fist work day of 2015. I spent about half of it on this fun little project. Replacing the AC adaptor plug on a laptop. The back cover, top cover, hinge cover, keyboard, and screen all have to be removed to replace it. After two tries it is back together and running again. So many tiny screws.
