In logic and computer programming, a Boolean operator is a type of variable between two states. In computer-generated imagery, Boolean operations enable us to subtract, add or create an intersection between two objects.

In this series I subtract a sphere from a landscape. The latter becomes hollow. It is sterile, it lacks something, the breath of life.

It is a morbid image: a Boolean nature.

A sculpture completes the image by representing the missing part.

The sum of the image and the sculpture forms the landscape in its entirety.

scans of 35mm slides made by photographing the monitor of the Amiga 500 computer I used to generate an a series of automatically generated fractal forms , built up on the screen as the program ran...

the monitor was installed in the window of a design store for a few weeks in september 1989 as part of a small festival titled Attitude, curated by Susan Charlton...

the program ran on two 512kb floppy discs - one in the internal and one in an external drive of the Amiga - a whopping 1Mb of dynamic computing muscle!

Instead of using a camera to track users fingers, this touch screen uses a pressure sensitive material which made interactions a lot more comfortable than touching glass.

I could use one of these at home or at work.

Duplivert Experiment

I made this in Bryce back in 2001. I generated the maze at one of those javascript maze sites and imported the 2D map into Bryce, then I turned the map into a 3D terrain and filled the maze with water. The blueprint of the maze is on the book, but it's hard to see. "Wingy" is my old web alias.

There is an Asian story that butterflies carry the souls of the dead to heaven. Early Native Americans believed that part of the human soul was captured in photographs. Combining these two ideas, I used images to create butterflies after having a dream in which human created patterns became so pervasive that butterflies started mimicking them. This is one of many butterflies I have designed using computer graphics then hand painting and drawing on the computer print. The butterfly's pattern is a digitally enhanced image of a revolver.
