I have planned this shooting for a while now. I am a big fan of the newer series of the tomb raider game. The new look is really good. So I decided to make a „poster style picture“ with my wife. It was very much fun, styling her. The best part was playing with the fake blood. Strobist Info: I used two strip lights left and right behind her, with Jinbei flashes. One octabox with a Yongnuo flash inside infront of her. All triggered via YN-622C.
Last year I did two trips to the Southwest and found the landscape to be both breathtaking and jaw-dropping. There's just so much amazing scenery out in Utah and Arizona and I knew I had to go back. Andy and I found a cheap flight into Grand Junction, CO and made a quick 1.5 hour drive over to Moab.
The first two days we met up with Phill Monson and visited all around Moab, Arches and Cayonlands National Parks. We witnessed sunset at Delicate Arch, light painted with the tail of the Milky Way at Double Arch, saw a beautiful sunrise at Mesa Arch and amazing grand views at Green River Viewpoint, did a short hike to Bow Tie Arch and Corona Arch (and saw people bungie jumping off Corona!), and lastly hunted down False Kiva for sunset. By the time we got back to the hotel on Saturday night we had decided we had seen enough and wanted to head to Monument Valley, which isn't close to anything convenient, but was only 2 hours from where we were.
It took us a couple hours to make our way south towards the Arizona border but we eventually made our way into the Navajo Nation and the familiar scenes of Monument Valley came into view. I say familiar because I can remember seeing these mesas, buttes, and spires from the age of 6 when I first played the computer game "Oregon Trail" on an old Apple IIGS. After stopping at the iconic "Mile 13" we drove into Monument Valley, paid the $5/person entry fee, and then drove through the 17 mile dirt road in our little (crappy) rental car.
After having a weekend of boring skies, cloud had finally rolled in and we debated where we wanted to photograph the sunset! I haven't had much luck shooting east for sunset and we decided to head back to Mile 13 since the view faced southwest. It was actually a lot of fun having to run into the road, setup the tripod real quick, snap a few shots, and then run out of the way as cars drove by from both in front and behind us.
Looking down at my watch I noticed that the sun had set and we only had a touch of color in the sky above "Stagecoach", "Saddleback", and "King on his Throne" mesas. To our right, further west, I could see beautiful pinks. As we waited the color started moving closer and closer to the mesas. I started screaming "KEEP COMING, KEEP COMING. JUST A LITTLE FURTHER!" Sure enough 5 minutes later the sky lit up with amazing pinks, even providing a nice frame above the mesas. The color was so bright, in fact, that I had to tone down the saturation a bit to make this actually look believable! I also debated removing the cars from the road but ultimately felt it gave the scene more place and helped draw the eye in.

Even though I've been playing the game since yesterday at 3pm, today I was able to pick up my actual boxed copy of the Collector's Edition this morning. It was weird playing the game before having the boxed version, but thanks to the digital pre-order and automatic store credit when converting to the collector's edition, I decided to do it that way instead of my normal method of waiting for the boxed copy.
Withdrawal symptoms and cravings may seem like the province of hard-drug addiction, but increasingly, psychologists are noticing these same signs of addiction in people who use devices ranging from smartphones to tablets.
And as more and more households get iPads, more children may start to get hooked. In April, reporters pounced on a story about a 4-year-old who was seeing a therapist to kick her iPad obsession. Though diagnosing a 4-year-old may be a stretch, "with what we're learning about addictions, it is fair to say that somebody can become addicted to an iPad," said Oren Amitay, a psychologist in Toronto...

Game Changer Suite is a collection of multiplayer games that were developed as prototypes by students at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences’ Hagenberg Campus. The accent in Game Changer is on exploring cooperative and competitive game playing. The gamers moving about in Ars Electronica Center’s Deep Space 8K are registered by means of laser tracking, which enables them to control their virtual avatars projected onto the space’s wall and floor.

Street art Frankey gives the city small inconspicuous surprises. Sometimes quite large, sometimes very small. Every week a photo with one of his recent works appears in the supplement to the newspaper Het Parool. A great opportunity to take a closer look at his work. Sometimes you have to search to find it and sometimes it is already gone.
Computer games of the 1980's were the inspiration of this blind window in BoLo transformed into a monitor with control panel. Game on!

Streetart Frankey
Streetart Frankey (pseudonym of Frank de Ruwe) is a Dutch artist who wants to positively influence the street scene with relatively small and often inconspicuous works of art.
He grew up in Nijmegen, father was an inventor at Philips Netherlands. He studied at Delft University of Technology (Industrial design). In daily life director of and working for design collective Natwerk. In Amsterdam, many of his works in the street art category can be found on buildings, streets and bridges, often in addition to existing building elements. He himself about his work;
"I want to push boundaries. Art has no boundaries, that's why I like it so much."
In 2019, a special page has been dedicated to his art in Het Parool for a number of years; first he took care of that section himself, later he had to leave that work to others because of busy work. A little later his work Eberhard van der Laan appeared above the entrance of Paradiso.
One of the works that inspired him is the Boomzagertje in the Leidsebosje, a work by an as yet unknown artist.

- Hey Kowenski blast that wheeler-droid before it damages my spacecraft... even though the simulations are on low stats in the training-program I am not Pinkeydot yet!
- Hey Burger, why are you always talking about Irena, do you have a crush on her, ha, ha, you are the only trainee who hasn´t been with her in the locker yet...
- Hey Kowenski shut your motormouth and shoot instead, I wish you could aim as well as you talk... and when it comes to Irena, I respect her, she is the best pilot, I don´t necessarily want to explore her landscape, she is just a damn good pilot, why are you always thinking of reproduction....
- ...both of you shot up and blast, remember the other trainees is watching this, Imagine how you would look if we failed this simple program on a low lever drone-army they would be on our back teasing us for ever... so shut off and shoot, even if it is training I am still your officer...
- Sure thing corporal Helgasdottir, but why Can you talk?
-That´s it Kowenski I will report you after this game...
- Oh yeah report me then for disobeying orders in an unlawful Game set, then you would get us all to do cleaning duty in the asteroid-field ...and you would get a one of those red dots next to your officer grades... would you want that?
...all the sudden a simulated voice breaks through the gaming environment... and instantly the game is put on pause
- This is Captain Gray! you are all bursted for playing a simulated low-level game waisting payed time and our base´s energy you are right about making trash duty but I think I will give you two weeks and in the lower levels of the capital instead of the asteroid field, the asteroids don´t look back at you with hatred and disgust like a poor Federation-hating Mutant trip-hone ganger would...
Lisa I won´t give you a red dot, you are a good leader Me an Irena respects you...
But not carry on fighting I want to see the end of this battle before I send the reprimand note to the colonel...but hey, I am gonna set the levels of the simu-bots up three nudges!

Welcome to the redux basic security door! And before you wonder, unfortunately the "Heavy Security Door" is still in early WIP development.
You might have noticed some peculiarities with this MOC, and proceeded to exclaim, "what the heck!" I totally understand, so let me explain: the 'decals' of white stripes and dots on the doors are illegal placeholders for decals for a real-life-build. As for the colors which don't actually exist--well--too bad! You are looking at the photostream of an *evil* genius, after all.
*Assuming those door stripes and dots were decals: both left and right doors slide open and into a wall cavity of my other MOCs in the "Evil Genius" series.
I hope you enjoy!

". . . but that is quite alright! We've got a broom and mop in ol' Janitor Bob's closet just down the corridor. It's too bad we had to incinerate him--dear oh dear... Anyway, once you've tidied up, you can start bringing in the furnerature! It's all the way in the heli-depot on the other side of the island, but new recruits are always happy for some adventurous excercise through the cyborg humanzee-infested jungle! Oh, and you'll have to assemble all the bunk beds and lockers by this time tomorrow morning, or else! Cheerio!"
Here's a reconstruction of the barracks wall-segment, included with a floor and a lovely sliding door! The first version (way back in the "Evil Genius" album) was too tall, and worse--it didn't leave for a big enough of a cavity for a door to slide into. Fixed!! (:
That shelving is one heckuva pitcher with a killer curveball: the upper row of shelves is merely "pinched in" by the other bricks, and it still isn't clear if it will work in inside/outside corners. The foundation and dirt are for dramatic effect. It's pretty dramatic.
So guys, help! What shall we name our new recruit? If he's going to be one of our minions, we must give him a new name to boost his loyalty to our cause!
