This custom computer desk and shelf was built with Kee Lite pipe fittings and pipe. The shelves and desk top were made from a pressed laminent and cut to fit into the desk outline. Almost done. Need some small trim pieces and some LED lighting. The back cover is in place. There is a 5" gap between the back piece and the back of the upper hutch. This allows for cable management, and easy access to the power bricks that are mounted on the back side. The unit has 2" of clearance on all sides to allow easy cable access.
Future plans call for 2 more 32" displays flanking the center display on top. The outer displays will be on tilting and extending arms to allow them to tilt at an angle in towards the user. They will sit over the top of the Dayton B652's on each side when tilted outwards.
I am also planning on putting a rack mount setup in the upper portion and building a secondary shelf setup with a 19" rackmount to mount my future server and will hold the case that is now sitting under the desk.
The smaller display on the top will be moved to the future server rack as it's currently now devoted to the dev server.
Originally the desk was a fake wood desk that I got at Good Will for $10. It looked pretty ugly and gloomy at the time, but with some paint and ripped out magazines/manga pages (those large cheaply printed manga "phone books") the desk looks a lot more cheerful now! ^__^

I am not doing any work in my 4th room! Next month new futuristic furniture will be put in this room!
I've since gotten a new computer and monitor and if I ever get this room cleaned up I'll replace this photo.

Here's the design I came up with straight out of Autodesk Maya. I HIGHLY recommend seeing your idea in 3D before you start. I made everything to scale in my scene, so I was able to model at will, then figure out dimensions later. It was also very useful for figuring out how much wood I needed. I have friends that use Google SketchUp for the same purposes.
One resource I took a lot of inspiration from was from the guys at SimplifiedBuilding.com. They used rounded and routed MDF as well, but personally I think the Kee Klamp fittings they suggest are a bit too pricey for a budget build. They look great and seem like a lot of fun, but at $3.50 a leg, Ikea couldn't be matched.

How the desk looked for the last few years. Quad screens ftw.The 32" display on top is mounted to two 2x4's that run vertical up the back and are bolted to the lower frame and upper hutch. I used a Monoprice tv mount.

Almost done! The unit comes apart in four main pieces. The left and right shelving units, the top cross-over and the back piece that links the two. All held together with screws so it can be disassembled and moved if need be.
Setting the units in place. The unit is designed to fit the desk snugly and leaves 2" on each side between the walls. Total length is 120"x86"x12". The desk itself is 80" wide by 30" deep.Both units are secured to the desk, forming one solid piece. This thing is a tank!

I Needed a desk and display buffet in the same spot so I combined the two and made this Pallet Computer Desk/Buffet Table.
How I built this Pallet Computer Desk/Buffet Table:
First, I built the two sets of table legs. Then, I framed out the table top. I added the two shelves for storage and stability. I used more deck boards to cover the table top and two shelves. I added the angled bracing at each side to make it sturdier. I sanded it all down until it was fairly smooth, and then stained it.
It has become a beautiful and functional addition to my home.
