I tutor one-on-one computer usage classes at Lakes Regional Library as a volunteer. I'm called a Computer Coach, and this is my "classroom".
The first centralized computer system at the Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire was in this room, the Data Processing Center, where the computing power was provided by large Burroughs mainframe computers. Burroughs was founded in 1886 as the American Arithmometer Company, and was one of the main competitors in the computer market during the 60's. This photo was taken in 1969.
Ever since the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire opened its doors in 1916 as the Eau Claire State Normal School, technology has played an important role in the education of generations of students. This album illustrates how technology has changed, from typewriters to computers, from records to reel-to-reel tape, and everything in between.

The department of Computer Science constructed this impressive boat. Unfortunately, it didn’t do well on the pond and the team struggled to the finish line.

This is my Office / Computer Room / Editing Work Station. There is now a Mac hooked up via a KVM to this as well, not pictured, because who the hell cares about a mac, it barely gets used, because I CAN DO EVERYTHING IT CAN DO AND BETTER ON MY PC. Why did I get a Mac? I have no idea? Garbage is what they are.

Quick sketching of computer mice concepts, using pencil. I liked the idea of having a toggle (up and down) switch on the sides where the thumb may be positioned.
I was commissioned to come up with a puzzle for Computer Arts. All I could think of was Donald Trump having his face slashed and Linford Christie running into a fence, so I went with that. I had to change this about 40-50 times as the magazine decided the imagery was too violent. They wanted him falling in a bush but we compromised with him falling over. This is the original and best though...
Kaufmann’s Posographe is an analog mechanical computer from the 1920's for calculating six-variable functions which computes the exposure time (Temps de Pose) for taking photographs indoors or out (depending on which side you use). The input variables are set up on the six small pointers; the large pointer then gives you the correct time. The variables are very detailed, but "quaint". For outdoors, they include the settings like “Snowy scene”, “Greenery with expanse of water”, or “Very narrow old street” as well as the state of the sky with settings for things like “Cloudy and somber”, “Blue with white clouds”, or “Purest blue”; The month of the year and hour of the day; the illumination of the subject; and of course the aperture (f-number).
This is me and my computer monitor. Only 2 year's to go before I finish my degree! (I'm studying as well as working full time, so my degree is taking me 4 years in total).
Those who know me will notice I am growing my fringe out. :-)

Something happened that caused the PC to DEMAND two working fans despite the CPU fan running ok.
I attached the CPU fan from a long obsolete and disposed-of PC and used tie wraps to keep it out of the way.
The system board detects that the CPU and System fans are spinning and boots normally.

Mum did not want a huge fuss of her day so made a lemon curd and lemon buttercream maderia cake her favourite and some simple decorations. Pain to get some of the lace work to stay up right but managed it after supporting it overnight.

Today was beyond interesting. (yup it's a rant day)
I had Before and After TV, I had no idea what it was when i scheduled for it. It will be about the history of media, thus I'm thinking I will enjoy it.
Afterward I mozied over to the MCAD computer help desk to have CS5 updated onto my computer. Plus as a bonus I got my hardware updated to Snow Leopard (if that means something to you bravo.. i have no idea what it means) I had heard a rumor that they would be wiping the computers. Ironically last night my external hard drive stopped being recognized on my computer. I told the computer guy this and that if he did need to wipe everything I will just come back later. He said no and that he would personally make sure it didn't happen. Thus I signed a contract stating that if anything went wrong I can't sue or freak out at the computer desk.
So what happened? Yup you guessed it. My computer got wiped... I have lost everything, important papers for bills, music, all of my photos, gone. Well hopefully not cause they are trying to fix my external hard drive in apology but they said I shouldn't keep my hopes up. They also told me I was surprisingly calm... little did they know I was resisting from ether crying or flipping the table.
So there went the day I was going to do a lot of homework. I putzed around the house stressed and just plain tired.
I'm in for a loooong weekend.
P.S.
yet another photo I enjoy... :)
