Tape used to stop wires moving ...
A client brought me a broken 1 Gb USB pen drive containing data. A lanyard attached to the USB key was violently pulled out of the USB port, pulled upwards and quickly. This not only bent the circuit board (which has since been straightened) and pulled the solder pads connecting the USB connector the the board, clean off.
This left nothing to solder to. From here, I used a 20x magnification to track the pads to hairline copper tracks and scrape of the insulation ready to have very thin wires (which dwarf the tracks) soldered to them.
As I did not want to heat up the memory chips too much, I soldered the USB connector to wires, the circuit board to wires and then joined the wires. I ended up soldering 4 data pins and two ground points.
From here, the USB key worked and I extracted 300 MB data.

Leslie and Annie share a share of a CSA (which, if you don't know, is like a thing where a bunch of local farmers create food and you buy a share and you get an allotment of fresh, locally-grown food every week). The food was all at my house for reasons of convenience, so Annie stopped by to pick it up.

Darn you, fascinating technology! I was hoping to keep Ben away from these things until he had to learn LCARS at the Academy.
As I was waiting at the Pittsburgh aeroport for my flight back home, I saw this strange message flash on the screen of a ticket agent's computer.

How would you describe your WSSU experience?
Amazingly interesting. From the people that I’ve met to the different experiences that I’ve had to the situations that I’ve been in and witnessed. But I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
What were some of your favorite parts of your college experience?
Connecting with like minded individuals, meeting new types of people, gaining life long friends, and unforgettable experiences.
Have you engaged in internships, research projects, study abroad, student leadership, community outreach, or other experiences that are enhancing your time at WSSU?
I participated in research during my first two years and summers at WSSU and then I had an internship Nationwide during my third summer. I also experienced student leadership and community outreach through Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. as I was Chapter President for an organization known for its service.
Did you face any obstacles while pursuing your degree?
The biggest obstacle was definitely speaking to people. I’ve never been the most outgoing person, and I’m still not, but I have come so far from when I first arrived at Winston.
What are your plans after graduation?
I’m honestly still trying to decide this myself. I’ve had a lot of good opportunities present themselves to me but what I’m leaning more towards right now is attending graduate school at A&T where I’ve been accepted into the Masters and PhD programs for Computer Science.
Are there any particular faculty, coaches, mentors, or staff that made a difference in your life?
I’ve had a lot who have definitely impacted me whether they know it or not. Of course my department chair, Dr. Elva Jones. The first professor I connected with and fraternity brother, Dr. Frederick Roundtree. My research mentor, Dr. Mustafa Atay. One of my favorite professors, someone I can always come talk to, and sor

Most of Academy at Ivy Ridge operated without teachers. Students were required to self-study and do tests on the computers which were cut off from the internet. If the students did not self-study or could not pass a test on their own, they would be punished severely. This was a factor in why they could not receive their accreditation from the state of New York.

This is a photo of one of the computer labs at SACI. While the computers are available for all students to use, this specific classroom is for the Visual Studies class. I am not in this class, I was using the computers for my own personal project, but I spoke with a student in the class who is really enjoying everything he is learning. The class partners with the Salvatore Ferragamo museum in Florence to enrich the students’ understanding of visual studies and culture. As this class is not only done on the computers, the central area of the room is filled with multi-purpose tables where students can complete various projects. In this photo specifically, the tables were being used as a surface where students in the class could cut up paper and create look book boards.

A truly breathtaking plaque celebrating Larry's contributions to the iPod hardware team. I don't deserve to have my picture among all those amazing people.
