Before returning my rented wide-angle lens, after a cloudy weekend, I had to photograph something, anything, and this is the result. For once, I wish I owned a red car!
But...the point of the photo is this: This is an HDR from 3 exposures, tone mapped in Photomatix Pro. Previously, I had always used Details Enhancer as everyone else seems to do. But this often produces an image without highlights or shadows at all. Flat. So this time I tried using one of the two alternatives: Tone Compressor. At least on this image, it worked much better: highlights and shadows, with details, the goal of HDR processing. Fusion Exposure also produced good results on this image.
So, when using Photomatix Pro, always try tone mapping with details enhancer, with tone compressor, and fusion exposure directly, to see which works best on that particular image!

THE CUBE - Cubitt Steps
OTTOTTO, Portugal
This exploded cube of light symbiotically bonds with the pedestrian bridge at the bottom of Cubitt Steps. During the day it is an intriguing black and white abstract skeleton, but from sunset the faces of this 3sqm cube reflect and frame the adjacent scenery - the water underneath, the city around, and the sky above.
