I was trying to portray "hope" in some way. I thought that a cross would really symbolize that. So when I thought of a "bright" light around it, I knew the pose I wanted to do. I darkened the outside by adding a "vignette," but to center the hands/cross, I selected that area with an elliptical marquee and changed the brightness and vibrance.
