I'm not sure exactly why, but composting is kind of exciting. My bin now has an earthworm! It could be multiple earthworms, but I only see one at a time...
Repost @dart_humanitarian_engineering: Our Compost Tea team presented their project and business model in Washington, DC this weekend and were honored to be selected as national finalists for the Global Grand Challenge. The project aims to roll out sustainable urban agriculture solutions in Quito, Ecuador over the next two years. We are so grateful for this experience and opportunity to meet other engineers making change, and the feedback we’ve gained has been invaluable. Next week, we find out if we have been selected to go to London for the Global finals—two out of four finalists will advance!
On November 1, 2014, one day after Halloween, a group (I have since forgotten the name) or organization was hosting an event in Rotary Park in Saskatoon where participants could bring their carved pumpkins to show off. All pumpkins would eventually be composted. Here, my best friend is lighting 'candles' (LED lights).

Some cantaloupe remains tossed into the compost pile last winter produced these cantaloupe vines. Unfortunately, the horrendous drought we've been suffering has stymied the growth lately. (Added by NM.)
My wife wanted a way to sift the large chunks out of the compost so we made this with stuff we had in the garage. The only thing we bought was the mesh.

After sifting the fine stuff, the slightly coarser material gets tipped into the 'muck bucket'. If some falls on the ground, it just goes back into the compost pile. Perhaps some day I'll make a more efficient 'catching system'.
