We compost the skins, seeds and stems from our winemaking. The composted waste from previous vintages is used to help prepare our 3,000 acres of estate vineyards years before we plant new vines and throughout the lifecycle of the vineyard.

There are all kinds of things growing from our compost bin, it looks so pretty that I don't want to use it!

Today I completed my compost box. It even has a roof. I found it after I finished working on the box. I was very surprised to see it fit, really "spot on".

We have these great plastic wire coated compost bins that have been a dream compared to the previous bin I built out of an old shipping container.

This is a themed slide in Science World: it goes through a ginormous plastic "compost heap" that's part of the ecological and resource-management installation.

We turn compost weekly so made it into a workshop so those that want to learn hands-on can attend.

Because of the inherant mess, shredded paper is usually discouraged from curbside recycling. I use the shred to line the bottom of my kitchen compost bucket, all the wet stuff and liquids that would normally start the smelly process of anaerobic bacterial action are absobed. The odor and mess are reduced and when the pail is emptied the shred breads down quiet readily.

We're continuing to use compost tea to add nutrients to our plants.

Made with a base of my go-to chocolate chip recipe, much less flour, oats, espresso powder, potato chips, pretzels, butterscotch chips, and M&Ms.

Oats + potato chips = a perfect vegetarian/vegan substitute for using bacon in cookies.

Time Square NY
