the -in mexico organic- solidarity coffee café caracol from chiapas, mexico going back into the ground.
Back in 2005, I used three plastic trash cans as compost bins. I now use two Smith & Hawkins BioStack Compost Bins, but still use these to handle the overflow and to store finished compost that is ready to use.
This is the photo I use for my LiveJournal and Flickr icons.

Hopefully their bacteria and worms and spiders and other soil goodness will kick my compost heap into action.
Our Composter rusted terribly and Stu ordered new parts to fix it. The left photo is of what's left of our composter, on the right is the rebuilt one and a Victorious Stu!
This is the side of a port-o-potty that has been retrofitted and turned into a composting toilet by a friend here in town. Her goal is to rent it out as a prototype composting port-o-potty for shows and events. I spray painted a little wrap around mural on the outside of some tunnels and a city from the future.. :)
the shute is there to prevent employee theft. So a worker couldn't slip a steak in with the veggie scraps, throw it in the compostables dumpster and collect it later.

What a bunch of crap. These bags of Sun Chips were sold as being compostable, that in 90 days they would be shredded. These ones have been in my bin at least 6 months.
But the program was ditched for more serious reasons- the bags were too noisy

αCrux no céu de inverno, ontem. ⭐🔭

A mixture of different materials has gone into the top unit of the three-tier composting pot. I have to stir this mixture of kitchen scraps like tea leaves, banana peels, coffee grounds, egg shells, cucumber peels, dried leaves, spent flowers from the vases in my house, straw and garden sweepings. I have added some half-done compost from a previous batch I was making in a plastic bucket along with some dried cowdung powder to innoculate the pile. I am supposed to turn it every two days. I have not put in any fish bones though I would like to, (I have buried fish bones in the past in the grounds of my parents' garden and was rewarded with fine quality compost) for fear of rats, as my terrace adjoins my living room, and I don't want to risk close encounters of the rodent kind. The lid isn't a complete sealed fit, so there are plenty of fruit flies in here and consequently their larvae down there, but I guess I am in it for the long haul and composting involves all these critters _ bugs, bacteria and fungi _ munching away at the pile till the job gets done. I have been told that if I am grossed out by all the larvae I am to spray some lemongrass around the pots to repel flies and ants. Go to dailydump.org for more infomation.
Used for composting of yard and household waste in the garden, this 3-bin storage allows for composting at different levels of decomposition
