NOVEMBER 18, 2014-ATLANTA: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra music director Robert Spano conducts the first rehearsal of Atlanta composer Richard Prior's Symphony No. 3 at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta on Tuesday November 18th, 2014. Prior's symphony will be performed by the in concerts tonight and Saturday-Sunday. It's a big opportunity for the British-born Prior, who is Emory University's director of Orchestral Studies and conductor of Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra. Prior, who conducted ASO musicians in three benefit performances during the nine-week lockout, talks about how he realized as he was writing this piece that the music in his head merged with the story of his late grandmother who encouraged his early music career in Kent. One of my first test shots with my new toy! Here no aperture disc was installed in Composer Front (i.e. f1.6) and I tilted the sweet spot to the extreme... certainly pulls the eyes to the word "tilt".

Diagenesis with composers Mischa Salkind-Pearl and Lynn Petersen after the concert at Boston Conservatory. Wish you were here James Kallembach!!

Harry Partch was an American composer, music theorist, and creator of musical instruments. He was also one of the first 20th-century composers in the West to work systematically with microtonal scales. He built custom-made instruments in these tunings on which to play his compositions, and described his theory and practice in his book "Genesis of a Music".

Back in the fall of 2013, I had the opportunity to visit the Partch Studio at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ to take some photos of these fascinating instruments.
