Built myself a new computer, almost 10 years since I changed so I felt it was time now. This time I went with full AMD setup, also found a great chassi from Fractal Design to build on.
Here in place with new cooler attachments also.
Our living room has finally come together. We bought the new TV & surround sound last month and once we got it up on the fireplace wall we found the component shelving and yesterday got another cubby shelf for the kids toys ... it finally feels done.
Washington DC -- this is part of the crane constructing a building right behind where I work, seen from an office window. Watching these guys is more fun than actually getting something done.

One of the most exciting components of A+ Partners in Education, Battle of the Books gets fifth grade students excited about reading. A lively academic competition, Battle of the Books improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, and teaches teamwork and good sportsmanship. The 2015 competition runs concurrently at Howard, Mt. Hebron, Oakland Mills, River Hill and Wilde Lake high schools.
Teams of five students and one adult coach each read the same 16 pre-assigned books over four months. Selected by HCLS instructors and HCPSS media specialists, titles include a wide range of reading levels and subjects. Thanks to generous sponsors, all teams receive a set of books. In addition to reading the books, teams choose a team name then dress accordingly.
During the "battle" (a 50-question exam), a moderator asks questions that relate to one of the following: a direct quote from one of the book characters; a statement about something that happens in the book; a passage taken directly from the book; details about an illustration or picture. Winning teams receive prizes.

Not really an exciting bit this, but it can't be rock 'n roll 'n fish 'n chips all the time, can it?
I'm using my Canon XH-A1 HDV camera (+ RedRock acromat macro attachment) to view markings on small electrical components, while filing them away into a set of drawers. (I got the idea from "Bones" - no eye strain!)

This photo is from a series I took of bellbirds feeding on harakeke nectar at Victoria Park, Christchurch.
Most of the harakeke had stopped flowering and set seed so the few bushes still with flowers producing nectar were in high demand and there was a lot of squabbling as birds came and went tying to monopolise the food source.
In the process the birds act as a pollen vector for the plant with pollen being carried from bloom to bloom on their foreheads, the flower shape and anthers specially placed to maximise the deposit of pollen onto the head of the bird as it feeds.
Korimako are a passerine bird endemic to New Zealand. It has greenish coloration and is the only living member of the genus Anthornis. The bellbird forms a significant component of the famed New Zealand dawn chorus of bird song that was much noted by early European settlers. It has a bell-like song which is sometimes confused with that of the Tui. The species is common across much of New Zealand and its offshore islands as well as the Auckland Islands. The Māori language name is Korimako. The bellbird is found throughout both the main islands of New Zealand apart from the north of the North Island. Its population and distribution had been seriously affected by the introduction of European-style farming, which has led to the removal of native forests (the natural habitat of the bellbird). Another important factor is the introduction of predatory species such as cats, weasels, stoats, ferrets, rats and food-robbing species like wasps. Predators either eat the birds or consume eggs, while food robbers compete with the bellbird for its natural food sources of nectar, honeydew and insects. The decline occurred around the same time as many other New Zealand species, but for unknown reasons was reversed and the species is still common across much of New Zealand.

The Danish sail training ship Danmark was built in 1933 at the ship yard in Nakskov. It is currently undergoing heavy repairs in the port of Aarhus.
The masts have been removed and all the rigging is transported to a warehouse where it gets a new coating of vaseline and two component paint.
The ship undergoes repairs like this only once in every 25 years
I visited the ship as well as the warehouse and came home with this set of pictures..
The basic components. Wheel rims and spokes, and hoses not included in this photo.
