Once disused the Ancoats Mills Complex was at the heart and soul of Manchester’s industrial community – a time now long gone. The imposing mills produced products like cotton, glass and chemicals and were affectionately termed “the workshop of the world”. What is now Anita Street was previously known as Sanitary Street, due to its row of dedicated workers’ residences, which were always kept in spick and span condition

The Detroit News Complex was constructed for the Detroit News, one of the city's leading newspapers, founded in 1873 by James E. Scripps, and occupied by the News from its opening in 191 7 until October, 2014. The publisher of the paper at the time of its construction was George G. Booth, whose vision of the paper's role and importance is reflected in the building. The News Building is also significant as a product of Detroit architect Albert Kahn's industrial and office architecture designed for a highly visible downtown setting. The News Building's exterior sculpture and relief work is a remarkable display of sculptural and decorative art that contributes strongly to its overall distinction and cultural significance. The building is also historically important for housing radio station WWJ, Michigan's first commercial radio station, which broadcast during its early years beginning in 1920 from the Detroit News Building. The Detroit News complex meets national register criterion A for its contributions to the newspaper industry's development in Detroit and the early history of commercial radio in Detroit, Michigan, and the United States. The Detroit News complex also meets national register criterion C for its 1915-24 buildings and structures designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn.

This is a wonderful 'weed' in our garden. It's a double columbine that so far volunteers every year in a slightly different spot. I let it grow where it decides to pop up, so it will bloom and go to seed to hopefully return the next year. My attitude to dandelions is quite different!

The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak (/kɑːr.næk/[1]), comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings. Building at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic period, although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places") and the main place of worship of the eighteenth dynasty Theban Triad with the god Amun as its head. It is part of the monumental city of Thebes. The Karnak complex gives its name to the nearby, and partly surrounded, modern village of El-Karnak, 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) north of Luxor.
Shilpgram is a rural arts and crafts complex, situated 3 km west of the city of Udaipur. The center is spread over an undulating terrain of about 70 Acres of land, surrounded by the Aravali mountains. The complex is conceived as a living ethnographic museum to depict the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of the region. With an objective of increasing awareness and knowledge about the rural arts and crafts, the Shilpgram provides opportunity to rural and urban artists to come together and interact through the process of camps and workshops.
DESCRIPTION
The Complex has an open air Amphitheatre with a seating capacity of approximately 8000, used for the major theatre festivals held here and the traditional folk performing arts. Each member state of the West Zone has traditional huts built within the Shilpgram, derivative of certain basic occupations fundamental to the way of life of the people of the area and also central to the culture of the country. In these traditional huts, household articles of everyday use, like terracotta, textile, wooden and metal items, decorative objects and implements are featured with appropriate signages and explanatory details with the objective to give a realistic glimpse of the people and their belongings.
The huts are constructed around an interlocking occupational theme. In this integrated pattern are five huts from Rajasthan, representing the weavers' community from Marwar, pottery from the hilly areas of Mewar and the tribal farmer communities of the Bhil and the Sehariyas.Apart from the state's own representation, there are seven representative huts from the state of Gujarat, five from the state of Maharashtra and five featuring the arts and crafts of Goa.
SHILPGRAM FESTIVAL
The Shilpgram Festival is organised every year from 21 December to December 31. The Shilpgram Fair (Shilpgram Mela), a part of the festive celebrations, serves as a destination for hand woven clothes, embroideries, mirror works and handicrafts. The 'Mela' aids in encouraging the urban potters, visual artists and designers and the cottage industry of Rajasthan. The Festival provides opportunities for learning the craft skills through various workshops. Cultural programmes during the evening and the local food stalls attract many visitors and locals.
SHILPDARSHAN
Shilpdarshan is a continuing activity at Shilpgram in which traditional performing artists and craftsmen are used to draw from the interior villages of the member states. They are regularly invited to exhibit their skill and to demonstrate their crafts, and sell their works in order to have direct access to the buyers. This programme has been initiated with an aim to encourage the rural craftsmen and performers.

Another selfie in the hilltop Swayambhunath/ Monkey Temple in Kathmandu,Nepal. This place is generally over run with monkeys, due to which some people refer to this as the Monkey temple. Well, this is fairly early in the day, so there were relatively few simians around- just a mere handful. You can see one of them on the platform just behind me. Extensive notes about the Swayambhunath appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures) and so I will not repeat them here. (Kathmandu, Nepal, Oct/ Nov 2019)

Qutb Complex. Delhi, India
The Qutb complex is an array of monuments and buildings at Mehrauli in Delhi, India, the most famous of which is the Qutab Minar. This complex was first constructed by Qutb-ud-din Aybak, the first ruler of the Slave Dynasty, and his successor Iltutmish (aka Altmash) in his new city called the Qila-Rai-Pithora near Prithivraj Chauhan's older city. The complex was added to by many subsequent rulers, including Iltutmish and Ala ud din Khilji as well as the British.
The most famous monument situated in the complex is the Qutab Minar; other important constructions in the complex are the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, the Ala-I-Darwaza, the Alai Minar and the iron pillar. Twenty-seven previous Hindu and Jain (Kafir) temples were destroyed and their materials reused to construct the minar and other monuments of the complex.
How complex is Jupiter? NASA's Juno mission to Jupiter is finding the Jovian giant to be more complicated than expected. Jupiter's magnetic field has been discovered to be much different from our Earth's simple dipole field, showing several poles embedded in a complicated network more convoluted in the north than the south. Further, Juno's radio measurements show that Jupiter's atmosphere shows structure well below the upper cloud deck -- even hundreds of kilometers deep. Jupiter's newfound complexity is evident also in southern clouds, as shown in the featured image. There, planet-circling zones and belts that dominate near the equator decay into a complex miasma of continent-sized storm swirls. Juno continues in its looping elliptical orbit, swooping near the huge planet every 53 days and exploring a slightly different sector each time around. via NASA ift.tt/2sDDDot
