Pigeon Racing in Indonesia
Pigeon racing is a very popular pastime in the villages of Central Java. Each competitor has couples of male and female birds. The males are taken and released 3 miles away from the "arena", a small clearing in a rice field, where the competitors wait holding the female pigeons.
First male pigeon to reach the arena and land on top of his female partner wins each round.
