A camera that has been on my wish list to add to my little collection of classic Minolta cameras was the X-700. I finally found a very nice example at a reasonable price - with the resurgence in film photography it's most surprising how much is being asked for some of these old cameras!
The Minolta X-700 is a 35 mm single-lens reflex film camera introduced by Minolta in 1981. It was the top model of their final manual-focus SLR series before the introduction of the auto-focus Minolta Maxxum 7000.
In 1981, the X-700 was awarded the European "Camera of the Year". Its competitive pricing resulted in it becoming the most successful Minolta camera since the SRT line.
In 1999, after 18 years in production, the X-700 was discontinued.

1937 Horch (top dog of Auto Union) 853 Sport Cabriolet coachwork by Glaser-Karosserie of Dreseden, Germany.
August Horch began building motorcars in 1899 and engineered many groundbreaking designs before being forced out of his namesake company in 1909. He then set up Audi - which was later sold back to Horch, which then combined with DKW and Wanderer as Auto union (the 4 rings) Production of the top of the line Horch models continued separately, and in 1935 a short-wheelbase 850 model was introduced that was said to offer Mercedes-Benz style and luxury at a more competitive price. Horch introduced the 853 model in 1937 and, fitted with a more powerful 120 horsepower engine, production lasted until 1939.
This car is one of 50 surviving examples of the Horch 853 Sport Cabriolet. Simple but effective Mascot.
The Jaguar E-Type, is a British front mid-engined sports car that was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd from 1961 to 1974. Its sleek appearance, advanced technologies, high performance, and competitive pricing established it as an icon. The E-Type's claimed 150 miles per hour (240 km/h) top speed, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration, largely unitary body construction, front and rear independent suspension with disc brakes, mounted inboard at the rear, and rack-and-pinion steering spurred industry-wide changes.
The E-Type was based on Jaguar's D-Type racing car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years beginning in 1955.
The E-Type employed what was, for the early 1960s, a novel design principle, with a front subframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork bolted directly to the body tub. No ladder frame chassis, as was common at the time, was needed and as such the first cars weighed only 1,315 kg (2,899 lb).
It is rumored that, on its debut on 15 March 1961, Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car ever made", but this statement is not fully confirmed. In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in The Daily Telegraph's online list of the world's "100 most beautiful cars" of all time.[
Inspired by my family coming into town. I decided to take them to the only mall left in most of the seven cities. I had forgot how long it has been sense I have been to a mall. and, it was busy to. See, they are small town country so, for them this is a treat . Still I will always prefer online shopping and competitive prices to choose from, but watching my cousins smile did it for me.
How is the St Antoine market organised ?
It could best be described as an open-air market where you'll find lots of wonderful things to discover as we believe first and foremost in human contact. The market spans two quays: Quai Saint Antoine and Quai des Célestins. In all, each week some 130 traders set up their stalls here with their products.
You can find some great pork and cattle producers as well as produce and other home-grown products here, including excellent pork butchers and cheese merchants who have been working here for a long time. These are some of the market's iconic figures. You'll find all regional products at very competitive prices. We can compete with any supermarket price with just a smile!
Overall, everything goes quite well between the merchants and the locals as the merchants are always a good source of advice, especially for the elderly. Indeed, many customers come to chat with us. It is a good source for the locals as we are there with them each day. It is in the centre of Lyon and it's the finest market in town!

Typical… I haven’t been on flickr for an age and the day that I want to upload there’s some sort of network problem at work…
I have recently taken delivery of a 6 valve controller and a shoot from below kit from mjkzz (Peter) for high speed water drop photography; in the past I have built this type of system myself but effort of setting it all up and using a computer to control everything is a little long winded.
Peter has been a long standing contact of mine and I’ve always followed his projects with great interest, he is a genuinely great guy and he has some amazing products at very competitive prices; if you want to get into this type of photography, I strongly urge you pay a visit to his website
So… as for my thoughts on the new toys… I’m really enjoying using them and after some playing around I can safely say 6 valve controller is a pleasure to use, it comes with a little hand held remote so after some initial setup you can sit back and shoot with a press of a button. I’ve spent a lot of time in the garage over the last 6 weeks playing with different liquids and lighting setups, the downside of this is that I’ve missed some cracking evenings with lovely light but it’s nice to spend some time with a different genre of photography!
***I've just started a Facebook page it would be great if some of you came to visit and maybe even "Like" it :-)***

The 'White Horse' Public House in Alton, East Hampshire, Hampshire, UK, is a Grade II listed building. It is operated by Craft Union (EI subsidiary) and became part of Enterprise Inns's Craft Union chain in September 2017 with competitively priced beers and no food service.
Alton is a market town and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, near the source of the River Wey. It has a population of 17,816 as of the 2011 census.
Alton was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086 as Aoltone. During the Saxon period Alton was known as Aweltun. The Battle of Alton occurred in the town during the English Civil War. It also has connections with Sweet Fanny Adams and Jane Austen.
There have been a number of breweries in Alton since 1763. Coors Brewing Company (among the ten largest brewers in the world) had a brewery in Alton for fifty years, which produced Carling, Grolsch and Worthington. It closed in 2015 because it lost work from Heineken.

Just a brief comment on the "gear"- altho I've only had the lens for a few weeks (& the light has been poor on all but a small number of days since), I must admit that I've been pleasantly surprised at it's capabilities so far..
I've only used it with a D810 body to-date & this combination seems to work well.
The auto-focus is pretty fast &, in truth, the ability to track moving subjects has exceeded my expectations. The lens/body combination feels well-balanced & even I manage to hand-hold it (this is further complimented by an effective V.R mode).
I've not tried it with a (1.4) converter as yet but I can't really say I'm too bothered about this.
Nikon appear to have delivered a good, competitively priced product to market & I'll be surprised if this lens doesn't continue to grow in popularity.

How Solar Works:
There are no moving parts in solar cells to degrade performance over time. Solar cells are semiconductors. The sun’s rays, even on cloudy days, are absorbed by silicon material in the cells. This energy activates electrons allowing them to move freely – creating usable energy.
The solar electrical system is connected to the utility grid through a standard meter. It tracks net power usage and spins backward (producing credits) when production exceeds usage.
The inverter takes the DC current created by the solar panels and electronically converts it to AC power for use throughout your home.
If you finance your system, your monthly payment may be completely covered by the reduction in your electricity bill. From day one, a Marin Solar system adds value to your home, ensuring your decision makes financial sense both today and in the future. Back in the 50', people would regularly hit the road embarking their little families out for a WE, also for holidays or just go picnic, for doing so they needed spacious cars. This relic, standing in the backyard of a repair-shop, awaiting better days, just reminded me of those hopeful times :-)
The Panhard Dyna Z is a lightweight motor car produced by Panhard of France from 1954 to 1959. It was first presented to the press at a Paris restaurant named "Les Ambassadeurs" on 17 June 1953 and went into production the following year. In 1959 it was replaced by the Panhard PL 17.
Panhard was one of the world's oldest auto manufacturers and since 1945 had become known for producing economical cars. Panhard, like Citroën, considered itself a leader, not a follower of automotive trends, and the Dyna Z featured an impressive array of unusual engineering choices.
In 1955 Citroën had taken a 25% holding in Panhard's automobile business and during the next two years the national dealership networks of the two businesses were integrated. This gave Citroen and Panhard dealers an expanded market coverage, incorporating now a small car, a medium-sized saloon and a large car range. It gave the Panhard Dyna Z, during its final years in production, a level of market access that its predecessor had never enjoyed. Sales benefited.
The Dyna X was replaced by the more streamlined Dyna Z in 1954. This was later developed into the similar PL 17, launched in 1959, in an attempt to conform to the styles of the time.
Like its predecessor the Dyna X and the Panhard Dynavia concept that influenced its design, the Dyna Z's body was originally aluminium with steel tube subframes front and rear joined by steel plate reinforcements in the sills. The decision to use aluminium sheeting for car bodies had been taken at a time when a sudden drop off in demand for fighter planes had left the producers with a glut of the metal, but in subsequent years the relative cost advantage of sheet steel had increased steadily. Other sources emphasize an underlying error with the original costings for the model which had taken no account of the off-cuts from the aluminium coils after the blanks for the body panels had been cut from them. Jean Panhard's explanation to a sympathetic interviewer concludes with the observation that "nobody wanted to buy offcuts except at a ridiculously low price, this difference was our profit margin." In Summer 1954 the cost penalty of persisting with aluminium bodywork had become financially unsustainable, and from September 1955 the Dynas Type "Z1" switched to steel bodywork, even though the door shells, trunk/boot and hood/bonnet were at this stage still made of aluminium. The switch to a sheet-steel body shell, attributed to "various setbacks" ("nombreuses déboires") with the aluminium body of the earlier Type Z1, imposed an instant weight penalty of 123 Kg. and had to be accompanied by a substantial redesign of the front suspension and a change to the shock absorbers, though cost savings were too late to avoid the need for Panhard to sign their ultimately suicidal refinancing "agreement" with Citroën in April 1955.
By 1958, only the bumpers, the fuel tank, the engine cooling shroud and most of the engine and transaxle cases were aluminium, but the weight was still quite low for a relatively comfortable six-seater saloon, when compared with narrower competitor models from Peugeot and Simca. Its unusual and very modern design gave it a unique combination of space, ride comfort, performance and fuel economy at a very competitive price. But reliability suffered and fuel prices were not high enough, even in France, for people to put energy efficiency first. The car also suffered from some engine and wind noise. The Tiger version had a racing inspired engine and a full cooling shroud.
History
Panhard was originally called Panhard et Levassor, and was established as a car manufacturing concern by René Panhard and Émile Levassor in 1887.
Early years
Panhard et Levassor sold their first automobile in 1890, based on a Daimler engine license. Levassor obtained his licence from Paris lawyer Edouard Sarazin, a friend and representative of Gottlieb Daimler's interests in France. Following Sarazin's death in 1887, Daimler commissioned Sarazin's widow Louise to carry on her late husband's agency. The Panhard et Levassor license was finalised by Louise, who married Levassor in 1890. Daimler and Levassor became fast friends, and shared improvements with one another.
These first vehicles set many modern standards, but each was a one-off design. They used a clutch pedal to operate a chain-driven gearbox. The vehicle also featured a front-mounted radiator. An 1895 Panhard et Levassor is credited with the first modern transmission. For the 1894 Paris–Rouen Rally, Alfred Vacheron equipped his 4 horsepower (3.0 kW; 4.1 PS) with a steering wheel, believed to be one of the earliest employments of the principle.
In 1891, the company built its first all-Levassor design, a "state of the art" model: the Système Panhard consisted of four wheels, a front-mounted engine with rear wheel drive, and a crude sliding-gear transmission. It would remain the standard until Cadillac introduced synchromesh in 1928. This was to become the standard layout for automobiles for most of the next century. The same year, Panhard et Levassor shared their Daimler engine license with bicycle maker Armand Peugeot, who formed his own car company. Source Wikipedia.
Sometimes living in an area, one tends to overlook obvious things, even photographers with a keen eye will many times not want to embark on the touristy journeys, many times overlooking the opportunities to capture images of very common things. This past Monday, was the second day of B&H Photo’s Optic Photographic Conference, the third such conference held annually by what I must say is probably the best photography retail store in the United States, largest selection, competitive prices and the most knowledgeable staff around B&H Photo located on 9th Avenue and 33rd Street; I’ve been a loyal customer since my first purchase a Minolta 70-210 F/4 MD Rokkor Lens when they were still located in Chelsea in the 1980’s. They not only have a first class photo-video-computer-all consumer electronics store, but they have a first class training vehicle called B&H Eventspace where they present top notch classes, lectures at no cost organized by two professional photographers David Brommer and Deborah Gilbert. The 3rd annual Optic Photographic Conference was held at the historic New Yorker Hotel which featured some truly inspiring speakers and on Monday evening, Canon-USA sponsored an evening New York Harbor Cruise on Hornblower Cruises. It was a lousy weather evening, low hanging clouds, New York’s marvelous skyscrapers enveloped in clouds in fact. However when we approached Lady Liberty, she was marvelous. I was able to capture this and many other images, it had always been something I meant to do, living here like I started in this commentary I figured I get to it eventually.
One other thing to note, being a film shooter until 10 years ago, my manual focus Minolta X-700 had a top ISO of 1600, I remember having to shoot Konica 3200 print film with my hand-held meter, it’s truly remarkable what these new modern digital cameras can shoot. I used 6400 ISO handheld on a moving boat for this shot, and there are current cameras that have ISO way beyond that number (Nikon D5 has a top ISO of 3,280,000) so really as one of the speakers at the Optic Conference Brooks Jensen said, “we live in a great time period for photographers”
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from our French comrades back in 19th Century. The idea in 1865 of a monument for the United States was first proposed by Frenchman Edouard de Laboulaye. It took a decade for that concept to percolate into a real proposal with sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi commissioned to design a sculpture with the target completion 1876, the centennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. The original proposal for the monuments name was “Liberty Enlightening the World” and would be a joint endeavor between France and the United States. The United States would build the pedestal for the monument, but struggled mightily for the capital to build said pedestal. The French had issues raising capital for the statue as well.
Regardless of the financial issues Bartholdi realized the structural integrity of his massive statue was beyond his artisan knowledge, so he sought knowledgeable help and commissioned Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower) who designed a massive iron pylon and the metal skeletal secondary framework that would be required to put this massive memorial together. After a final push from newspaper publisher Joseph Pulizter that poked directly at the American middle class and the wealthy the necessary funding for the pedestal was raised and the pedestal was finished in the spring of 1886. The statue actually was finished in France in 1884, reduced into 350 individual pieces that arrived in New York Harbor summer of 1885 on French frigate “Isere”. So in October of 1886, 10 years late for the Declaration of Independence centennial celebration New Jersey’s own United States President Grover Cleveland oversaw the dedication of the completed monument. For trivia buffs, Present Grover Cleveland, native of Caldwell New Jersey is the only US president to serve 2 non-consecutive terms.
If you are visiting New York, by all means take a day and visit the Statue which is managed by the National Park Service. If you reserve with some time you can go all the way up to the crown, I did it once long ago in the early 1990’s, cool view of the harbor. Take a day because included is also a stop at the Ellis Island Monument and you could easily spend a day there alone. Lastly in recommendations will be if you have a couple of hours during your visit New York to kill, stop by B&H Photo it’s in the heart of midtown, go upstairs where you can get your hands on the latest cameras from all the major manufactures or if you like old cameras, on the same floor stop at their used department, amazing stuff there; definitely a stop for all the gear-heads out there.

Excerpt from cruisecritic.com:
This 970-berth vessel Midnatsol (Norwegian for 'midnight sun') is remarkably adaptable: When in Antarctica it carries just 500 passengers and uses the extra space (including its car deck) to accommodate expedition equipment such as Zodiac boats, as well as the kayaks, paddles, poles, snow shoes, etc. needed to explore this vast, white wilderness.
Wherever it sails there's always a dedicated Expedition Team on hand. In Antarctica that team consists of wildlife, geology and climate change experts. In the Arctic it's slightly different, with the team leading passengers on expedition hikes instead.
Built in 2003, Midnatsol is the sister ship of Trollfjord, designed in the function-over-frills style that's expected of expedition ships. Despite a refurbishment being planned for 2021, many of the public areas (the atrium, lounges and amphitheatre where lectures are held) still sparkle as if new and are an appealing place to spend time after a busy day hiking an icy mountain or kayaking the glassy waters of a fjord. Especially divine are the top decks' two outdoor Jacuzzis -- a perfect spot to enjoy the scenery come rain, snow or shine.
The ship is designed for viewing, and there are plenty of comfortable places in the public areas to take in the breathtaking views, be it the glaciers and icebergs of Antarctica or Norway's 1,250 miles of dramatic coastline. Indeed, just about everywhere on the ship comes with a view, including the sauna and gym.
Food onboard is exceptional. In Antarctica most meals are buffet-style, with the occasional waiter-served dinner. In Norway whilst breakfast is always a buffet, lunch and dinner are more frequently waiter-served set menus. Be warned: Price of alcohol differs depending on what part of the world Midnatsol is sailing in. In Antarctica wine and beer are competitively priced; in Norway the cost of an alcoholic drink will make your eyes water.
What's unusual is that Midnatsol stops several times each day -- once for an extended stay, but more frequently for just 15 minutes or a half-hour. This is to allow passengers and cargo to offload, and cruisers who want to can dash round pint-sized fishing villages before hopping back onboard.
Overall, if you're after a unique, adventurous cruising experience -- whether that's at the top or the bottom of the world -- and enjoy being active in nature, then an expedition cruise on MS Midnatsol is the ideal choice.

How come these aren't more popular? Howmanyleft says there are only about 1,500 on UK roads and this is only the second I've photographed. I've seen maybe two more. They get great reviews and are very competitively priced. IMO they're slightly more distinctive and better looking than any of their competitors too. I've never seen any at the local dealer.

This British Beauty was seen at the Heartland All British Car and Cycle Show held in Merriam Kansas.
History of MGA 1600
The MGA began production in 1955. The styling and mechanics were different from previous MG models. The public had been given hints of its new design during the 1951 Le-Mans 24 Hour endurance race. The car was driven by George Phillips and was actually a TD Midget with body modifications.
The XPAG engine that had power many previous MG's was replaced by a new power plant. This 1489 cc four-cylinder, B-series engine provided between 68 and 72 horsepower. The BMC B-series unit had made its debut in the MG Magnette saloon and proved to be a reliable and powerful engine.
To create enthusiasm for the cars prior to release, three aluminum-bodied prototypes were created and dubbed EX182. They were entered into the Le Man's race where they finished fifth and sixth in their class. This epic achievement gave the MGA racing credibility and mechanical reliability.
The styling of the car was undeniably elegant. Its aerodynamic design and two-seat open-body were stylish and sporty. The vehicle sat very low to the ground providing an excellent center of gravity. This improved handling and cornering ability. The chassis was a modified TD Midget unit with widely spaced side rails allowing for a low-seating position.
In the rear of the vehicle was a spare wheel mounted on the upper portion of the outside of the vehicle. Underneath was adequate trunk space for luggage. At the front of the vehicle sat the engine.
Steel disc wheels were standard equipment but center-locking wire wheels could be substituted at an additional fee. Since the car had an open-top, it was subjected to the elements. A hard-top could be purchased making the vehicle more versatile.
A coupe version quickly followed and offered features such as wind-up windows, soft-top versions, and other amenities that helped appeal to a wider customer base. To stay competitive on the race track, the MGA twin-cam version was introduced in 1958. This high-performance version could be driven to the race track, race, and then be driven home. The engine had been modified with aluminum components, twin overhead camshafts, and dual SU carburetors. These enhancements increased the horsepower rating to 110 and the overall top speed to 115 miles per hour. Disc brakes replaced the drums which not only made the car more competitive, it made it safer. Unfortunately, the vehicle suffered from reliability issues and did not hold up well to the strain of racing. So in 1960, MG discontinued its production.
In 1959, MG introduced the MGA 1600's and offered them in a coupe and open form. These were the standard MGA cars but with 1588 cc B-series pushrod engines. Drum brakes were used in the rear of the vehicle, but disc brakes were placed in the front.
In 1961, the MGA 1600 MKII was introduced. It featured a 1622 cc. B-series engine that was capable of producing 93 horsepower. 100 miles per hour was easily achieved by the MKII. Minor aesthetic changes were made to the front and rear of the vehicle.
In 1962, MG ceased the production of the MGA. Nearly 100,000 examples had been produced during its life span making it the longest-running and best-selling MG. The success of the vehicle was in part to its styling, racing history, performance, and competitive pricing. Many of the MGA's produced were exported to the United States. In the end and after so many years, the MGA was having trouble staying competitive with models offered by other manufacturers.

A new House of Doors sign now hangs on the building. Compare it to the day shot (below) and you can see the changes in the wording.
The Acme-Wiley Signs Co. logo was originally underneath the word Commercial, but does not appear on the new panel.
New sign made by Grate Signs.
I have never seen a night shot of this sign. The neon was broken when I first photographed it 11 years ago.
The Barcol word no longer appears on the top panel. The Barcol Overdoor Company, was a division of Barber-Coleman, based in Rockford, Illinois. The Barcol Overdoor manufacturing facility was in Sheffield, Illinois.
The history of Barber - Coleman can be found here flic.kr/p/ciyjgb

The first European external commercial facility on the International Space Station arrived at its new home last week: the Columbus laboratory module.
Bartolomeo, named after the younger brother of Christopher Columbus, was installed by robotic arm on the forward-facing side of the space laboratory on 2 April 2020.
The platform, with blue hinges centre-right of the photo, is at the end of the Dextre attachment that is part of Canada’s 16-m robotic arm for the International Space Station. In an intricate process controlled from Earth, the robotic arm took Bartolomeo from the external trunk of the Dragon cargo vessel and moved it into position on Columbus. The 20th SpaceX Dragon mission departed from the Space Station today to splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
Bartolomeo is built and operated by Airbus, and hosted by ESA on the International Space Station. The facility has a clear view of Earth and the service benefits from high-speed data transfer to provide easy access to space at competitive prices.
Previous spacewalks prepared Columbus’ hull to receive the new host facility by adapting support pins to which Bartolomeo will connect. Astronauts will perform another spacewalk to install Bartolomeo in the next few months, together with a new terminal called ColKa that will upgrade the European space laboratory.
The photograph is taken with Earth above, the blue and white facility, space storm hunter, ASIM, can also be seen top right. This Danish-led facility is pointing down at Earth and monitoring the events that occur above thunderstorms. It celebrates its second year in orbit this month. Results coming in have already shown how lightning can affect the upper reaches of our atmosphere and much more.

YX67URP was a Volvo B8R / Plaxton Leopard purchased new by Borders Buses as their number 11729 in November 2017. There is speculation that it may not remain in the area however as it is not really suitable for service work, and was possibly bought after Irizar failed to offer a competitive price on new stock.

This market is usually busy all days especially in the evenings. Due to the location of the market, an open street market between railway station and bus stand, people who pass by get to see all fresh vegetables available at competitive prices.
Sometimes you see pictures online and you get that feeling: I gotta go there!
Mission to Mars was one of these locations. But when I was there I felt like visiting a awkward garden. Cause that's what it is. No wow factor but liked the cube shaped greenhouses anyway.
