Another awsome Sport Compact event at WSID.Loads of cars made the trek from all over Aus to compete.Almost capacity entries on the track & a great selection of hot cars on show.
The presentation standard of Sport Compact drag cars has really amazed me so far this year, with a lot of the top runner track cars looking like prestine show cars with candy pearl paint jobs,tastefull air brushing and graffix and tuff drag spec rims all round. these guys have definatly stepped it up a notch!
Took a whole lot of photo's throughout the day, but unfortunatly forgot my memory backup so was limited to 4G worth of space...Ahhhrr.

first time i built the entire chassis without any of the bodywork.
features:
Steering: working rack and pinion, working steering wheel, and HOG (hand of god) steering system (over rear wheels)
Suspension: Working independent on rear wheels, none on front due to the steering system (the most compact systems that aren't based off of the bricks flexing takes at least 2 studs more room between each wheel)
Interior: working glovebox and steering wheel
once the poles are removed, the tent can be squished down and fastened by the 'secondary' cord lock position on the supplied tent bag
This is a early 1960's Simplex Sportsman. It's in the back of a early 50's Chevy P/U. Not a bad combo. Check out the engine, it looks like a lawn mower engine!

Today's shot is a studio photo of some smoke.
This was taken on the Fuji compact on manual settings, including manual focus. The smoke is lit with an off camera speedlite fired from a Yongnuo YN-622C radio trigger.
The photo is then processed in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Compact mirror with black polymer clay embellishment. Floral stamped imprint dusted with gold powder.
Olympus made some really good compacts over the years.
All these are nice to use and produce great images.
The XA4 is one of a few fixed lens cameras that is wide angle.
A fine lens and it focus down to 0.3 metre.
Things I don't like are no filter / lens hood mounting, and DX coding. The DX is easily over ridden with a bit of electrical tape then I can set the ISO manually for a bit more control.
The 35RC needed new light seals and I have made these from black felt rather than foam. Only other issue with this is the battery. Best solution is a thirty quid batery adapter from the Small Battery Company. Otherwise it is off setting the ISO to compensate from slightly higher voltage of the S625PX silver oxide batteries that is available now.
The Pen has limited versatility but it works really well in most conditions except low light, it just stops working when it gets to 1/40 at f2.8. So fast film in the winter.
I found two flocks of Flamingos at a local "vlei" yesterday evening. A medium sized flock of Greater Flamingos worked South of a bridge; while a similar number (perhaps 20) Lesser Flamingos enjoyed the North Side. I was intrigued to find them segregated by the bridge for I'd seen some in closer company, apparently making no distinction, at a different pond a few days ago. This time I concentrated on the Greater Flamingos and was blessed with a few minutes of interesting video footage to work through over the next few days or weeks. Hope you enjoy this very short edit. (Seen in the foreground here a Pied Avocet).
Captured at 50fps and rendered the first part at 25fps (i.e. half speed).
Because the city of Richmond in British Columbia is located on a river delta, the soil must be compacted before a large structure can be built. The common method is to bring in a big pile of dirt and let it lie there for a period of time. This pile of dirt is compacting the soil in preparation for a condominium complex. (Richmond, BC, Canada)
