Just saw the new Ricoh CX3 and had a quick play, the first thing that struck me was the very high resolution screen (this was really impressive!) and also the dynamic range mode. The only thing it was lacking was some manual control but for those just wanting a high resolution point and shoot this is definately worth a look.

The residential complexes of Mei Foo were considered grand in the old days; every apartment unit offers a balcony, at least two rooms and one bathroom. The apartment sizes vary from 600 to 1,800 square feet (56 to 167 square metres). Every apartment complex has a 24 hour unified, unarmed security force. Entry to a residential block requires an entrance code, which changes periodically.

Taken at Arthur R Marshall Wildlife Refuge. My goal was to take panorama sunset photos. I drove to my chosen location only to realize I didn't bring the proper lens for shooting wide angle. Realizing I had my macro I quickly set out in search of insects before the sun went down.
This ant was using it's tongue to probe the wood surface it was on, It didn't seem bothered by my presence as I was very close to get this shot. The ant uses it's tongue to groom itself(and larvae), beg for food, ingest food, give food to others via trophallaxis, and determine the quality of food. My guess there was something on this wood that captured it's intention. I touched it's back leg to see if it was still alive after the shot and it marched off.
The antenna of the compact carpenter ant is 12 segmented, with the terminal segment being slightly elongated and bullet-shaped. The scape is longer than the width of the head. Workers vary in size, ranging from 3 to 6 mm in length. Body hairs on the head, thorax and abdomen are abundant, long and golden, with few hairs on the legs and very few on the base of the scape. There is no stinger. The thorax is evenly convex as is characteristic of carpenter ants. The thorax and head are ash brown and the gaster is blackish, as in C. floridanus, but compact carpenter ants are smaller. There is one petiolar segment. This species is in the subfamily Formicinae, tribe Camponotini.

Very rare Schuco bear that is also a ladies compact with face powder, a mirror and a section under the head that once would have held lipstick, a small trace of which can be seen.
Am 05.11.2016 veranstaltete das rechte Compact-Magazin unter dem Motto "Offensive zur Rettung der Meinungsfreiheit" eine Konferenz im Halong Hotel in Berlin Mitte. Als Redner sollten neben Compact-Chefredakteur Jürgen Elsässer u.a. PEGIDA-Gründer Lutz Bachmann, der Kopf der österreichischen Identitären, Martin Sellner, der Staatsrechtler Karl-Albrecht Schachtschneider (einprozent.de), der SVP-Politiker Oskar Freysinger und der AfD-Landesvorsitzende von Sachsen-Anhalt André Poggenburg auftreten. Aufgrund antifaschistischen Gegenprotests mussten die anreisenden Teilnehmenden durch eine großflächige Politzeiabsperrung geführt werden. Unter ihnen auch bekannte Gesichter aus verschiedenen neurechten und rechtspopulistischen Kreisen, wie beispielsweise Michael Stürzenberger (Die Freiheit und pi news), Robert Timm (Identitäre Bewegung), Ester Seitz sowie einzelne AfD Mitglieder aus unterschiedlichen Berliner Bezirksverbänden.

Nachdem die Leipziger Buchmesse trotz Kritik und eines offenen Briefes (www.nocompact.de ) dem rechten Compact-Magazin einen Stand sowie zwei Veranstaltungen auf der Messe ermöglichte, kam es zu kleineren Protesten.
Am Samstag kamen gegen 14.30Uhr bis zu 150 Menschen zusammen um kurz vor dem Compact Stand zu demonstrieren. Sie hielten dabei Transparente und Bücher hoch und riefen einige Parolen.
Von den Protestierenden wurde dabei folgendes Statement verlesen:
„Als Verlage und Autoren treten wir in unseren Büchern und unserer täglichen Arbeit für eine offene Gesellschaft ein, die Vielfalt und Meinungsfreiheit feiert. Rassismus und Sexismus sind keine Meinung! Die Leipziger Buchmesse sollte keine Plattform für die Hetzer rechtspopulistischer Verlage und Magazine bieten. Wir sagen daher souverän gegen Rechts, in Büchern, auf Messen und Überall!“
Am Abend zuvor sprachen schon Peter Feist (links im Bild) & Martin Müller-Merten (rechts, stellvertretende Chefredakteur der Compact) am „Sachbuchforum“ [sic!] über „Die zensierte Republik. Deutschland in Zeiten von Meinungskartell und Zensur“. Am Rande der, von mehreren duzenden Securitys & Polizei, abgesicherten Veranstaltung gab es einige Zwischenrufe und Pöbeleien gegen die rechten Redner.
