The community of Guadalupe Arriba came out for an event celebrating the completion of latrine project in Feb 2007.
From ending child labour in their villages to closing down liquor shops, to sending girl children to school and fighting to end social evils like female infanticide and child marriage, these woman are blazing new trails and breaking down walls of oppression—all within the confines of their traditional societies.

A grand event, this year’s celebrations saw a host of sponsored children, their parents, teachers, school principals and community leaders participating to talk about the positive changes that were happening in their respective communities through World Vision India’s intervention
With the help of the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) department, ADP Nilgiris facilitated the construction of sanitation structures that benefitted 159 target families in the project.

The session was part of a number of taster classes taking place over the last few weeks, thanks to funding made available through Participatory Budgeting - where community members decide on how local funding is spent and what activities they want in their local community through a voting system.
The young people took part in a consultation event earlier in the year to decide what events they would like to take place in their local area - so far, they have enjoyed:
- Street dance & Hip Hop
- Hockey & Short Tennis
- Athletics & Badminton
- Cheerleader and Gymnastics
- Fun, Fitness and Rugby
Over the next few weeks, the young people will take part in a second consultation where they will decide what activities they would like to continue, and this will be rolled out over a continuous 12-week program.

It was again found that 25 acres land for one crop was not enough to meet the subsistence of 23 families. So it was planned that, if a check dam will be constructed it will provide irrigation even in Rabi (Nov –Feb) season which will intensify their crop production.
“I am also very happy about the development taking place in my village” he said with a smile. “I hope that the other grocery stores in the village too can benefit through this development.”
