With the active participation of the people, including women, from 13 villages, the primary healthcare facilities in the community were assessed and an action plan for improvement was drawn up. Empowered with information and confidence, underlying issues were taken up by the community, which facilitated positive change. Today the village has a full-time health worker, and a government ambulance to attend to the needs of pregnant women. This has improved the number of institutionalised deliveries, thus ensuring quality healthcare at the time of childbirth.
