4000 square feet large H0 layout.
In addition to the numerous, well-designed trackmodules showing mountains and valleys and running along fields, farms and houses, you also find industrial areas and stations with shunting activities on this almost 4000 square feet large layout.
In addition there are a number of highlights such as the self-built Bietschtalbridge, a replica of the ruin Windeck, the wine festival in the Geist Inger vineyards or a replica of the Moselle bridge Bullay.
To give our model figures a destination there is the large station Siegenthal. this is located in an arc with a radius of 11 meters and has a total length of 9.20 meters. It is an understatement that you cannot find a factory made suitable roof for the station in this size. Here too we modelled with wood and brass.
This large layout consists of various themes and gauges:
• two-track main line with two stations
• Stops, various self-built bridges (brass)
• Industrial areas with shunting
• 1-track sidelines with intermediate station and terminal station and connection to the main track s
• H0e narrow sideline with an intermediate station and terminal and connection to the main track H0 In total there are 8-9 Operation places that are constantly occupied. "The operators'' communicate via a telephone central.

Street musician performing under the name of Jolly Rotten Funk in Broadmead, Bristol. A fantastic performer whose head was hidden in the cover on the puppet's back and the artificial head seen here did all the 'communicating' with passers-by. Very entertaining street entertainment.

While driving for Peugeot, Rickenbacker invented a way to communicate with his riding mechanic over the roar of the engines by connecting two leather face masks together with rubber speaking tubes. While this worked well, he gave up the idea after deciding the masks were "unbearably hot and itchy." Caption on verso reads, "Our Latest Gemini Astronauts? No, not from our next projected space flight, but from another era, the two gentlemen behind the masked are Eddie Rickenbacker (r) and Fred McCarty (l), driver and mechanic of a Peugeot race car during the 1914 Corona, Calif. road race. The use of leather face masks to protect themselves against flying pebbles necessitated the use of speaking tubes to keep in constant communication. With crash helmets and dark goggles, their appearance is truly "out of this world"."

The majority of the Bushmen are illiterate, but that doesn't stop them writing love letters. The Bushmen communicate in a fascinating way by the beads of their beautiful jewellery. Every colour is a symbol for a word or an expression. Sometimes when a young man wants to express his love to girl, he gives her a bracelet or a necklace where the colour speaks from his heart.
The Ju/Hoansi Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert, Namibia, correctly called the San, are the first people of Southern Africa and practice one of the oldest cultures in the world and the famous “click” language. For thousands of years the Bushmen have survived as hunter and gatherers. Unfortunately, this is changing as there is very small number of wild animals left, and the Bushmen are set on the line of absolute poverty and hunger.
The Pilgrim Relief Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that is dedicated to improve the quality of life for indigenous peoples in remote areas of our planet. For 12 years they have been working with the the Ju/Hoansi Bushmen, in Kalahari Desert, Namibia, with numerous projects to address a diversity of local needs. Solar powered water systems, medical equipment for local hospitals, educational materials for local schools, support for local wildlife and environmental management and other projects have sought to address the multiple challenges of the Bushmen’s present situation.
Summer 2008 I had the privilege to take part of Pilgrim's work and stay with the Bushmen. They are I people that I truly admire.

Fun Fact No. 3 - Hippo - beware of spraying poop
One of the most unusual behaviors of hippos is the spraying of feces with their short, muscular tails. This peculiar habit is done for the purpose of territorial marking. By vigorously flapping and rotating their tails while defecating, they disperse their feces and scent markings over a wide area. This communicates their presence to other hippos, both as a warning and as a way to assert dominance.
Interestingly, this behavior also plays a role in hygiene and temperature regulation. The dispersal of feces and urine through tail movements helps to keep the skin moist and cool (and smelly).
