Looking around a corner is never straightforward

This gentleman was in the window of McDonalds in The Strand, London. He was very animated and obviously having a heated discussion with someone on the phone....

Colobus guereza , the guereza colobus or Kilimanjaro guereza (among others), is a species that is part of the mammals Primates . It is a monkey of the family Cercopithecidae . It is a species of Old World monkeys. It is found in much of western central Africa and in eastern Africa, that is to say Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Chad. The species includes several subspecies of different appearance. It has a distinctive appearance to which its name alludes; the long fringes of white hair that run along each side of its black trunk make it a kind of coat. Its face is framed with white hair and it has a large white tail in the form of a tuft.

The guereza is diurnal and arboreal, found in both deciduous and coniferous forests. It is an adaptable species that can tolerate disturbances to its habitat and prefers secondary forest near rivers or lakes. Although it was once thought to eat only leaves, it also eats seeds, fruits and arthropods. It is able to digest plant matter with a high fibre content thanks to its specialised stomach, but it can only eat a small number of plant species at any one time. It is hunted by raptors and some mammals such as the common chimpanzee and the leopard.

The Guereza lives in social groups of three to fifteen individuals. Typically these groups include a dominant male, several females, and their offspring. It reproduces polygynously, and copulation begins with vocal communication. After a gestation period of just over five months, babies are born with pink skin and white fur that darkens to adult coloration in three to four months. The Guereza is well known for its dawn song, the males' "roar" is a method of communicating over long distances: it reinforces territorial boundaries. It also makes other vocalizations and uses body postures, movements, and facial expressions to communicate.

ENGLISH CAPTION: "The Geologist" One of the thing I like the most about my work as a geologist, are probably those countless hours you spend in the field walking, and watching the rocks and the landscapes... Those weeks that you spend working under the sun tend to change the way you percieve your surroundings, and then photography becomes the best language to communicate what you see...

28:366 - Tough Love

In order to love someone, you must sometimes tell them no.

Ever been asked to do something that went against what your gut told you to do? Maybe it was a loved one, a coworker, your boss? Was this something hurtful to you

or them? Did it compromise your beliefs, your morals or your goals?

Today at the zoo, I had such a problem. I was snacking on some popcorn in front of this poor creature. He did everything he could to communicate to me what his wants were. He tried to convince me that not only did he WANT the popcorn, he actually desperately NEEDED it also. He gave me the saddest eyes I had ever seen.

It broke my heart!

But I knew that what he wanted me to do was wrong. Not only could it hurt him or make him sick, but it would be compromising my own sense of self. I love animals. I could not hurt one intentionally!

There are times when we are in situations like this. Not necessarily with a cute debrazza's monkey trying to get our salty snack. But most often with people we love asking us for something that we know is wrong to give them. It could be a child asking to stay up late on a school night or a spouse asking you to fudge the numbers on your taxes. There are somethings that are okay to say yes to, but you really need to ask yourself where you draw the line BEFORE such questions are asked. And make sure you know the consequences of your decision.

Sometimes when confronted with a difficult situation, it might be better to take your time in giving an answer. Don't allow yourself to be pressured by the strong emotions that you think might complicate things if you say no. Once you give in once, it can be harder to say no the next time. Give yourself a chance to take a risk and do what you know is right. If you are unsure, ask someone that is neutral to the situation.

Love is hard sometimes. It comes with so many emotions that can be very intense. You become tied to that person and you don't want to hurt them. But you have to remember that if you say yes to something that can cause harm, you are hurting them and yourself in the long run.

I could have said yes to the monkey. I could have given him a little piece of popcorn without anyone knowing I did it. But I would have known. How horrible it would have felt to wonder if he would have gotten sick. And even if I tried to convince myself that he would not have been hurt, inside I would have known I had made a decision that was wrong and went against my beliefs. And I would not have been able to take it back.

I had to say no to the monkey, regardless of how much pain the look in his eyes might have caused me. I couldn't allow his display of emotions manipulate my decision. Once I threw away my popcorn container, the monkey went back to his own meal of fruit. No big deal. Although a few minutes earlier, he was trying to tell me that his world was shattering, in the end, he was unchanged.

Next time, when you see the pleading eyes of someone that is asking you for something impossible, remember that you have the power to make the right choice. Because you love them.

Love your children with all your hearts, love them enough to discipline them before it is too late ... Praise them for important things, even if you have to stretch them a bit. Praise them a lot. They live on it like bread and butter and they need it more than bread and butter.--Lavina Christensen Fugal

Ok a little back story...my mother's parents were from a little town in Sicily called Floridia. My grandfather had 7 brothers and when my grandfather and grandmother came over to America a brother stayed in Italy. One year after my mother graduated from Juliard school of music (piano) she was sent to stay with her uncle in Sicily for a few months. My mother's aunt had surgery and my dad was a surgeon making a house call to my mother's aunt when my mother was visiting. Long story short they fell in love and because my mother was raised in America but with Italian immigrant parents she spoke both languages and therefore was able to communicate with my dad. They wrote letters back and forth and eventually got married and my dad moved to America but his mother (my nonna and his sister (my Zia Rita) stayed in Sicily. My dad had to learn English and get relicensed in America to practice medicine as a surgeon in New York City. He bought a summer home back in Siracusa and as a child I spent many summers with my dad and Nonna in Italy. Can't believe after all these years I'm finally going back and am excited to show Tim where I spent many a summers growing up! Wish I was visiting my dad, my Nonna and my Zia Rita but of course they have long passed…

Leaving tomorrow morning and will be back September 14...see you all then! :))

The multiple facets of Second Life have always fascinated and passionated me and I’m still amazed by the will for diversity and creativity in the pixels incarnation.

The idea that each avatar is the projection of a real person somewhere on this planet is dizzying… That these avatars can communicate in real time using their own appearance, directly from their imagination, culture, personality, desires is fantastically rich.

It is true that we encounter here Narcissus syndrome, but still something else that ego is at work here, I think.

Are we not just looking for our secret self, this being hidden in each of us and who accompanies us all along our lives, do not we give to him through our avatar the opportunity to express its relevance or his impertinence?

I would like to show the meeting with this entity humano / Virtual ... find the spark of life, the detail, the feature that brings life to the inert, and witness this phenomenon by deploying a series of portraits ..

If anyone recognizes his avatar and doesn’t want to appear in this serie, I will remove the photo, if someone wants to add his name I will add it :)

Canada geese use both body language and honking sounds to communicate with each other. Ten different sounds have been identified.

Since the adults are large and able to defend themselves, they don't have many natural enemies. The goslings are another story. Snapping turtles, owls, and hawks find the goslings make for good eating. Raccoons and bears will hunt for nests and make a meal of unhatched eggs.

These geese mate for life and are very devoted to each other. If one is injured the other will stay by its side, even if the flock flies to another destination. It's not known for certain if when a goose loses his mate he picks another mate.

Because of the large population of geese they will sometimes invade public places such as parks and golf courses to find food and shelter.

Evening Grosbeak, male

La Pine, OR

Cornell Cool Fact: Evening Grosbeaks do not seem to use complex songs to attract a mate or defend their territory. Instead, they use a small repertoire of sweet piercing notes and burry chirps to communicate.

A foreign beauty so exotic

When she smiled at me

She took my breath away

She's reminiscent of a goddess

It's a shame that we could not communicate

How do I say

How do I say hello?

I just wanna talk to you

How do I say you're beautiful

When I can't take my eyes off you

I don't wanna say the wrong thing

I want just the right words to impress you

Mujer bonita, how do I say, how do I say?

How do I say?

The room was filled with a sweet arom

When she danced her hips moved oh so sensuous

She speaks with her body, so united

In the language that I will never forget

I hear her calling

Spinning around in the crowd cause she found me

And when she started moving closer and closer

Does she know that i want her, I want her

I wanna be with her tonight

So I caressed her face, kissed her lips

In my life, I've never felt like this

I've never had a lost for words

One kiss from her has got me feenin'

How do I say hello?

I just wanna talk to you

How do I say you're beautiful

When I can't take my eyes off you

I don't wanna say the wrong thing

I want just the right words to impress you

Mujer bonita, how do I say, how do I say?

How do I say hello?

I just wanna talk to you

How do I say you're beautiful

When I can't take my eyes off you

I don't wanna say the wrong thing

I want just the right words to impress you

Mujer bonita, how do I say, how do I say?

Regards,

Orion standing 'military ramrod straight' and unsupported on his rear legs surveying the scene. Not sitting, yet poised and ready to go, he does this spontaneously when his view is obstructed by tall grass/weeds/cattail stalks/etc. The position can be held for (say) 5-6 seconds, then he slowly lowers to his all fours. He will repeat as needed until he's satisfied all is OK. It's as if his hips are hinged and seems to take no effort at all. I find his behavior... Amazing !

BTW: the black device on his neck houses a small receiver and tiny speaker. When he ranges out, a touch on my transmitter produces a very quiet 'beep' at his ear. He is trained to stop on that sound and turn his attention towards me for further directions via hand signals (come, go left/right/forward/back, or stop). I need not shout his name/orders, or raise a game frightening ruckus to get his attention. As such, we communicate silently which keeps our stress levels low. Working with Orion is a ton of fun and he seems to love it, too.

Cute tabby stopped by for a smooch! I do seem to attract them :)

I was focusing on the distant specular light from the sea in front of me. Mum saw her approach me … I wasn't aware of her until her tail swished past my arm. OH so cute! She's navigated a road or two to get to here. She hung around for a few cuddles and chin scratches. Then she wandered off, as cats do. She turned around and sat looking at me through the long grass. I couldn't believe my luck. Such a gorgeous girl.

Cats always surprise me. They all have such distinct personalities, likes and dislikes. Different fascinations although they all love a box, no matter what the size. They entertain us with their antics. They are their own cat. They live in the moment. They feel remorse albeit momentarily. They are loyal. They learn. They adapt. They communicate. They play with their humans and will signal when it's the right time. As a cat companion it is your job to see that kitty is given space to be cat.

i'm new soul

I came to this strange world

Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take

But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear

Finding myself making every possible mistake ...

See I'm a young soul in this very strange world

Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake

But why all this hate? try to communicate

Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

This is a happy end

Come and give me your hand

I'll take you far away

A raven sitting on a good, high point along the sidewalk on the coast and west side of San Francisco Bay, sounds off with a wonk-wonk/croaking type of sound. There is much garbage strewn across the sidewalk from the night crowds and the ravens clean up as best they can before sunrise and before the refuse removal workers come onto the scene.
