Andasibe, Madagascar
After returning to the capital, the final part of our tour took us east to the reserves around Andasibe that combine the forests of Mantadia National Park with the Analamazoatra Special Reserve.
I stopped in to the Elgin Heritage Park and I spotted a number of young song birds including this Common Yellowthroat.
Observed this CT taking several passes of the lake. The reflection owed to the morning light was what I liked the most.

I was over the moon to encounter these two elegant long distance travellers today. They were incredibly confiding whilst I made some images of them ... my 'Red Letter Day'! :-))

Another from a good handful of shots I got from Skipwith Common. This was taken at the 'peak' of the sunrise. I didn't touch the saturation or vibrance slider by the way!

I was delighted to find the Common Terns (first seen yesterday), were still on site early this morning. They were favouring a different place along the edge of the lake and regularly used wooden posts to rest on. I photographed them from my car today because they were raised up from the ground … very obliging of them as, using a zoom lens this time, I was able to make some very different images. Can‘t believe how lucky I‘ve been with this pair of globetrotters! :-))

Common Buzzard snapped from a vineyard hilltop, providing the side-on perspective I was looking for.

'SECOND BEST, THE ONLY OPTION.'
An image made last year of a female Common Tern at my local lake. She and her mate were unable to nest on the proper tern raft because it had been commandeered by breeding Black-headed Gulls by the time they arrived. A small, unprotected duck platform was their only alternative and they duly formed a scrape from bits of dry guano and feathers. What a poor second best!
In this record shot the female was standing beside her clutch of three eggs, having just relieved her mate from incubation duties.
"Common" because it's widespread; not because it's commonly seen. A nester at this venue. Lake St. Clair.
Common Gull / larus canus. Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. 04/03/26.
It's good to get a few Common Gulls visiting my local lake during the winter months. Although gentle looking birds, they are very aggressive when it comes to getting food from BHGs. They chase them relentlessly until food, (usually bread!) is dropped in panic. They then swoop down to snatch it, retreating to a quiet spot to gorge it down. This skua-like behaviour is usually accompanied by loud, strident calls.

The Common Death Adder (Acanthophis antarcticus) is not so common in the Brigalow Belt bioregion of Queensland anymore. The Brigalow Belt has one of the highest reptile diversities of any of the bioregions (there are 85 bioregions) in Australia, however land clearing for agriculture, gas and mining has reduced it to just 10% of what it once was. This has put a lot of pressure on the wildlife of the region, in particular there are a number of snakes which are now threatened due to the land clearing. Brigalow Belt, QLD.

Common Redshank / tringa totanus. Minsmere, Suffolk. 21/04/26.
Buffeted by strong easterly gusts of wind, this Common Redshank patrolled the waterline at Minsmere. It looked to be in almost full breeding plumage

The common blackbird is a species of true thrush. It is also called Eurasian blackbird, or simply blackbird where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species. It breeds in Europe, Asiatic Russia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand.The males live up to their name but, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts. The bright orange-yellow beak and eye-ring make adult male blackbirds one of the most striking garden birds. One of the most common UK birds, its mellow song is also a favourite.
Common Starling / sturnus vulgaris. Nottinghamshire. 15/02/19.
‘SONG TO A BERRY.’
This splendid male Starling was stirred into song by the February sunshine. Perched prominently on the hedge top he gave it his all.
His only audience was one scarlet berry, bless him.
You’ll have to imagine his bubbling vocals but check out those impressive throat spikes ...
