Enjoyed walking along the rocky shoreline of one of the Galapagos Islands and seeing amazing birds like this Common Egret.

Not really all that common where I live so I was really pleased to find some! :)

Apologies for the Flickr silence for a while, I've been looking after a very ill pet (in between work and all the usual stuff) leaving next to no time for photography or Flickr. We've also then had a few busy days away this week.

Will look forward to catching up with everyone's photos over the next few days! :)

I'm constantly chasing these birds from my feeders, but this one was too fast for me and managed to grab a sunflower seed. Instead of chasing him I decided to let him pose for the camera. Backyard bird.

Nicknamed the “whistler” for the distinctive whistling sound of its wings in flight. Cold weather accentuates the sound.

Duck is the common name for numerous species of waterfowl in the family Anatidae. Ducks are generally smaller and shorter-necked than swans and geese, which are members of the same family. Divided among several subfamilies, they are a form taxon; they do not represent a monophyletic group (the group of all descendants of a single common ancestral species), since swans and geese are not considered ducks. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water.

"D. picta do not feed on living plant matter, as they are detritivores and eat decaying plant matter. They can be found almost anywhere there is decaying vegetation: landfills, temperate deciduous forests, swamps, and even shaded fields."
