Everything's got a beginning. Maybe an end too.
Welcome to my Videogames Gallery, a journey through 20 years of passion and gaming.
Everything started 20 years ago with a Commodore 16, "the machine that changed my life".
Since it was lost (and wasn't mine, for that matter), I replaced it with a Commodore Plus4, which is almost the same stuff except that it carries 64k of Ram memory (instead of 16) and has a slightly better keyboard layout. Games are exactly the same for both machines, but 64k's ones only run on Plus4.
Commodore thought it was a good idea making a new, unexpensive, ready-to-use machine, so they put 3 programs (a word processor, a spreadsheet and a graphic calculator) and a debugger into a rom chip inside the computer, and made a new, flexible basic language. Although very powerful, the machine suffered the lack of a dedicated graphic and sound processor, and software support was awkward to say least.
American audience didn't forgive that, and was pretty disappointed because Plus4 was a great chance to improve the milion-selling Commodore 64. They started to tease the machine calling it "minus 60" (one of the funniest computer jokes I've ever heard, indeed) and after a couple of years completely forgot the P4.
Europe was a little more tender, and Commodore 16 and Plus 4 actually sold pretty well, expecially in eastern countries, where computers were almost unknown and too expensive.
I am especially fond of this machine, because it was my first gaming experience, when I was six. Now I'm searching the web for my favourite cassettes, Reach For The Sky, Ikari Warriors and Demolition, hoping to find them at a fair price.
