John Barry, from Ballysampson, Tacumshane, County Wexford, was an officer in the Continental Navy during the American War of Independence and is often credited as the founder of the US Navy. This monument was a gift from the people of the United States to the people of Wexford. Sculpted by Wheeler Williams, it was unveiled in 1956 by President of Ireland Sean T. O'Kelly. A commemoration is held at the statue each year and General Dwight D. Eisenhower and President John Fitzgerald Kennedy are among the distinguished visitors that have laid wreaths at this monument.

Hard to pick the picture that better reflects the beauty of this Commodore.
The pink colour plus the "comet" design make an incredible radio.
The Commodore Series 12 and Series 14 were the junior models to the Commodore Custom Series 15 and Series 17. The junior models debuted in Hudson's 1941 model line. Commodore Series 12 featured a I6 engine and the Series 14 models came with a I8, with all built on a 121-inch (3,073 mm) wheelbase, while Commodore Customs utilized on the 121 in (3,073 mm) wheelbase for Series 15 coupes and a 128 in (3,251 mm) version for Series 17 sedans.
The Commodore was powered by Hudson's 202 cu in (3.3 L) I6 producing 102 bhp (76 kW), or by Hudson's 254.4 cu in (4.2 L) I8 that produced 128 bhp (95 kW). Prices listed for the Series 12 coupe started at US$1,028 ($21,976 in 2024 dollars) to the top level Custom Series 17 Sedan at US$1,537 ($32,858 in 2024 dollars).
The Commodore series was Hudson's largest model range in its debut year, consisting of sedans, coupes, and convertibles. Elements of the interior and exterior were styled by Betty Thatcher, "the first woman designer to be employed by a car manufacturer".
For the 1942 model year, the cars received a facelift. This included concealed running boards, modestly enlarged front grilles, and external trim arrangements. Hudson offered an optional "Drive-Master" vacuum-assisted clutch with a servo-operated transmission with three modes: "automatic" shifting and clutching, automated clutching only, or fully manual.
The rather utilitarian but imposing moulded concrete rear of the Commodore Cinema, Ryde is seen here on 29th December 2018. Whilst it cannot really be called attractive, it is certainly of it's time and continues to survive.
The actual cinema is still open and is reputed to be one of the cheapest cinemas in the UK.

Thanks to Christian Heilmann for the Commodore 64 shirt.
I know I'm committing all sorts of photographic crimes here (24mm landscape for a portrait shot, lack of focus, bad cropping etc.) - this was a real quick photo.

The Commodore Hotel was built in 1936 in the Streamline Moderne style. The style is evident by the rows of recessed windows with continuous eyebrows on both street facades.
The hotel has a covered porch that wraps around the corner. Also taking advantage of the corner are the stacked curving windows with eyebrows.
The hotel's nautical motifs are quite playful with graduated circular bosses that give the impression of rising bubbles. The nautical theme continues with portholes on the ground level.
