Anyone up for unusual movements? Well, given that we are in an age of railroads making weird decisions, unusual consists can happen out if thin air on a random day.

On my last day of my time in Toronto during Reading Week, i decided to spend the Morning on the North Toronto to see what would pop up. One of the trains would be CPKC 100, which comprised of AC4400CW 9773 leading, an SD60 possibly being transferred from the Vaughan Intermodal Terminal, a single loaded wellcar, alongside another AC44 as DPU. The strange cavalcade is seen here passing underneath the endangered Howland gantries on a modest Friday morning.

"Victorion: El Defensor de la Mision" by young artist, Sirron Anthony Norris....a comical style (classified by Norris as "cartoon literalism") mural of a giant robotic Victorian house. The theme of this mural is defense of the Mission District to preserve the neighborhood from developers who would replace its character with parking lots and strip malls.

Photographed November 12, 2007 on Balmy Alley in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. Norris had just completed this mural in September, 2007.

In a winter wonderland, so pristine and bright,

Stood a curious snowman, quite the peculiar sight.

Big bulging eyes that seemed to glow,

Protruding buckteeth and a carrot nose, just so.

Around his neck, a thin scarf flapped,

Broken tree branches for arms, all cracked.

Yellow stains at his base, quite a disgrace,

Near a white cottage, he looked out of place.

In a forest snow-covered, where beauty was rife,

This snowman brought a chuckle to life.

For amidst the serene, he stood proud and grand,

A comical figure in this snowy land.

Remarks/comments: Putting the Yatming trailer on this Ford looks so accurate. I can only ever recall seeing one Ford C-series so I know how short in height they are.

It is almost comical how small they looked when towing an equal vintage Fruehauf trailer in vintage photos on Google.

Not many people in the 60's considered installing a wind diffuser on the top of their truck cabs to direct the air up and above the attached trailer. Aerodynamics and indeed fuel economy wasn't really considered much.

This note about Radcliffe's shoddy job of the partition of India is almost comical. As you can see, the partition was almost a sham. And Jinnah, the person behind it, is also said to have called it one of his biggest blunders. Radcliffe, a man who had never been east of Paris, was given the chairmanship of the two boundary committees set up with the passing of the Indian Independence Act. He was faced with the daunting task of drawing the borders for the new nations of Pakistan and India in a way that would leave as many Hindus and Sikhs in India and Muslims in Pakistan as possible. Radcliffe submitted his partition map on 9 August 1947, which split Punjab and Bengal almost in half. The new boundaries were formally announced on 14 August 1947—the day of Pakistan's independence and the day before India became independent. Radcliffe's efforts saw some 14 million people—roughly seven million from each side—flee across the border when they discovered the new boundaries left them in the wrong country. Some 500,000 people died in the violence that ensued after independence, and millions more were injured. After seeing the mayhem occurring on both sides of the boundary, Radcliffe refused his salary of 40,000 rupees (then 3,000 pounds). He was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 1948. The notice is fairly self explanatory if viewed in full screen or expanded mode. (Amritsar, Punjab, northern India, Nov. 2017)

Why so serious?

I guess you could say this is a tribute of sorts to Heath Ledger's Joker character. Ever since I saw the movie (twice, in fact) I could not get his performance out of my head. So, yeah. If you haven't seen The Dark Knight yet, GO! It's an incredible movie with an incredible cast.

Rest easy, Heath Ledger.

Oh, and view on black.

These Australian native birds are fun to watch, being extremely energetic and gregarious, to the point of being comical. They also constantly call to each other, just to add to the sensory delight for an observer. However, their energetic nature makes them hard to photograph, particularly with an iPhone since it lacks an optical zoom to allow you to frame and capture them from a distance.

They are rarely seen on their own, and are constantly on the move along the ground as a flock of half a dozen to a dozen in number. A flock will dart this way then that way along the ground, foraging through litter and across lawns with a synchronised coherence that reminds me of the fascinating way that schools of tropical fish move as one.

The Wikipedia article referenced below is a particularly interesting read. I discovered that they are not a close relation of the European Choughs, but an example of convergent evolution. These Australian natives are one of two remaining species in a family of mud-nest builders. Despite their relatively widespread distribution in eastern Australia, it seems to me that there are a surprising number of gaps in our knowledge of their behaviours.

Toa Poraru is mostly a color-swapped Emperor clone with some minor changes, but this is deliberate since they're the same character, technically. Their torso may seem the most variant, but the structure is actually 100% the same, however instead of Armor Poraru just uses fabric to cover it up. One "non-canon" difference is that Poraru is one unit shorter - The Mata head limits posability when using a 3-length axle, but the neck looks comically long with a 4-length, however with the Emperor, I could use the cape to compensate. In Poraru's case, there is no cape and he'd look really stupid with a longer neck.

Backstory:

Toa Poraru was once a completely ordinary and uninteresting Toa of Stone. He had some misgivings about the Toa code and sometimes was vocal about this, but other than this, he was a by-the-book Toa doing his duty. He and his Toa team protected their small village somewhere in a minor island of the Southern Isles. His life was entirely unremarkable until a few centuries before Teridax's uprising, a Makuta went mad on the Northern Continent (presumably due to a poorly conducted experiment) and went into a crazed rampage. The Brotherhood wanted to contain him, but were unsuccessful, and fearing a controversy, instead "lured" the Makuta southward.

Poraru's team heard in advance of what was coming their way, and planned to intercept the enraged Makuta in a region far from their village. They succeeded in this endeavor, and together the six of them even managed to defeat the Makuta, however it was in a complete blood-rage and wouldn't give up. Poraru's suggestion to "put the Makuta out of its misery" was repeatedly rejected by the leader of the team citing the Toa Code. However, their attempts to contain the bestial creature failed, and after escaping, it headed straight for their village. By the time the Toa arrived, the village was in ruins and the Matoran massacred. This was the last straw for Poraru - the Toa Code which in the past had merely inconvenienced him, was now directly responsible for the death of those he swore to protect. Desiring vengeance, he set off to kill the Makuta, and was joined by two other Toa from his team who shared his views, while the other three remained and effectively exiled them.

They tracked down the Makuta, and since they now fought to kill, their change in strategy caught him off-guard, allowing them to injure him severely. Alas, once again, their prey got away. In retaliation for the injury, it swing back to the ruins and ambushed the three Toa who refused to hunt him down. Blaming themselves for the death of their brothers, Poraru and the other two Toa swore to finally end the rampage of this crazed Makuta. On their third confrontation, thanks to the injury, they finally killed him - however only Poraru survived the conflict.

Having lost any purpose in life, he began wandering about the Southern Isles. At one point, in a seedy inn, he overheard a boastful merchant from Stelt bragging about finding a source of Energized Protodermis which wasn't under the control of either the Brotherhood of Makuta nor the Hand of Arthaka. He "persuaded" the merchant to reveal the location of the font, and travelled there immediately. He knew that anyone coming into contact with energized protodermis is either killed, or, provided they yet have an unfulfilled destiny, changed. If he dies, so be it, but if this would give him a new purpose, all the better.

Upon arriving to the cave, he was surprised to see that the merchant did not mislead him, and plunged into the pool. When he emerged, he saw his reflection on nearby crystal formations - he hadn't changed much, but the color of his armor was now black and silver. In his mind floated, ever present, two words - "Emperor" and "Unity". He was compelled to return to the site of his former village. On this journey, he began making some realizations. His control over Stone was gone, replaced by telepathic, telekinetic and teleconductive abilities. Then, he realized he can revert to his old form at will, and then his control over Stone returns at the expense of his new abilities. In dream, he realized his new purpose in life was to achieve absolute Unity across the known world. For this, he'd need followers. During his journeys, he sought out disenfranchised warriors, exiled Toa, former Dark Hunters and any other beings who would follow him. They returned to his old home and founded the United Southern Empire.

Planning his expansion, a single problem constantly returned - Metru Nui. He hadn't the military force to conquer it, and it would never join the Empire willingly so long as it was governed by a Turaga and overseen by a Makuta. If he'd push northward gradually, annexing and conquering smaller lands and working his way up, they'd make note of the threat and send an army of Toa against him. However, he had one advantage - everyone who knew he once broke the Toa code was dead. As far as Metru Nui was concerned, Poraru was still Toa Poraru. And thus the plan was born - he alone would venture north, while his lieutenants would continue the conquest of the south. He, as Poraru, would infiltrate the Toa order, while as the Emperor would gain the support of other factions, so that unwittingly all players in the north would further the imperial cause.

His plan was upended by Teridax's uprising against the Great Spirit, and during his Reign of Shadows, the Emperor fought alongside the Toa Resistance against Teridax's forces, all the while ensuring the secret of Poraru and he being one and the same didn't get out. When Teridax fell and Spherus Magna was united, the Emperor led his people to a new home, from which they would endeavor to unite this new world.

For the rest of this story, check out the description under the other MOC, "The Emperor".

They have been making fun of us for over a thousand years.

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo was founded around 800, perhaps by Charlemagne himself. Once a very powerful Benedictine monastery, especially in the early 12th century. Later it fell into years of disuse, and only returned to being an active monastery in 1992.

This was a cute and comical spectacle as this HST emerged very slowly from the tunnel with much noise whilst being pushed by this 08. By this stage it was persisting down quite nicely as well!!

Miami, Florida -- On April 29 2017 Hundreds gather Saturday afternoon to send prevalent message of environmental justice at Jose Marti Park. Simultaneously people participated all over the country for climate actions, jobs, and justice. Organizers partnered with civil rights groups, indigenous groups, labor unions and scientists.

In order to be impactful, the climate change movement expanded beyond the existing environmental groups and incorporate everyone afflicted by climate change—meaning everyone. On Trump’s 100th day in office, we sent a *very* political message: This isn’t Trump’s America — it’s ours. Climate change isn’t a hoax — it’s a crisis. And the climate movement isn’t giving up or going away.

Armand Bernard (1893 - 1968) was a French actor, composer and band leader. With his heavy diction and his air of dignity he brought a comical note to many French comedies.

Born in 1893 in Bois-Colombes, Bernard dreamt of a career as actor in stage tragedies, but his serious voice and his constant dignified appearance choose otherwise for him. In various comic films he played the mundane snob, the moron, the notary and even better the undertaker where his appearance stole the show of other comedians as in the Fernandel comedies Les gueux au paradis (René Le Henaff 1946) and On demande un assassin (Ernst Neubach 1948). Bernard was just as popular the writer of film music for films such as Le million (René Clair, 1931) and Pension Mimosas (Jacques Feyder, 1934) while he arranged the music for Sous les toits de Paris (René Clair, 1930). Bernard was also musical director for other films such as Luis Bunuel’s L'âge d'or (1930) and A’ nous la liberté (René Clair 1931).

All in all Bernard worked on some 100 films. He was already highly active in silent cinema from 1914 on, in particular as Planchet, valet of D’Artagnan in the super-production Les trois mousquetaires (1921) and the sequel Vingts ans après (1922) by Henri Diamant-Berger. Bernard was highly active within the films by Raymond Bernard, such as Le Petit Café (1919) with Max Linder, Le Miracle des loups (1924) with Charles Dullin, and Le Joueur des éches (1927) with Pierre Blanchar. He also acted in films by André Hugon (Le Diamant noir 1922, Les Deux Pigeons 1922) and played the part of Jean-Jean in Abel Gance’s Napoléon (1927). After Diamant-Berger’s musketeer films, Bernard came back to him in the late 1920s for Éducation de prince (1927) with Pierre Batcheff and Rue de la paix (1927) with Léon Mathot.

Memorable early sound films with Bernard were Fra Diavolo (1930) by Mario Bonnard and Paris la nuit by Diamant-Berger. Bernard also often played in the French version of Franco-German multilinguals of the 1930s: Tumultes (Robert Siodmak 1931) with Charles Boyer, Dactylo (Wilhelm Thiele 1931), Le congress s’amuse (Erik Charrell 1931) with Lilian Harvey and Henri Garat, Quick (Robert Siodmak 1931) with Jules Berry and Lilian Harvey, Caprice de princesse (Henri-Georges Clouzot, Karl Hartl 1933) starring Marie Bell, and Les dieux s’amusent (Reinhold Schunzel/Albert Valentin 1935) staring Henri Garat. Dactylo, starring Marie Glory, was the French version of Thiele’s Die Privatsekretärin, starring Renate Müller. An Italian version, La segretaria privata (Goffredo Alessandrini 1931), starred Elsa Merlini. All were successes and caused an equally popular sequel in France, Dactylo se marie (Joe May/ René Pujol 1934), again with Glory and with Bernard as sidekick. Bernard tried his luck in singing with Dactylo, even if his comic forte was more visual than oral, so he sang on a record two songs for the film - La tirelire (Boyer-Abraham) and Je vois la vie en rose (idem), French versions of Ich hab’ ne alte Tante and Ich bin ja heut’ so glücklich.

Bernard also played in the French, English and Austrian version of Les aventures du roi Pausole/The Merry Monarch (1933), which had Emil Jannings in the English and Austrian version. After new films with Diamant-Berger, Bernard also started to play in films by his younger brother Maurice Diamant-Berger (alias André Gillois) such as L’Enfant du miracle (1932). From the mid-1930s on, Bernard played in several films by Christian-Jaque, such as Compartiment de dames seules 1934), L’école des journalistes (1936), the murder mystery Les Disparus de St. Agil (1937) and the Fernandel comedy Raphaël le Tatoué ( 1938). Other directors connected to Bernard in the 1930s were Pierre Caron and René Pujol. During the war Bernard did not act in films, retaking his film career in 1945 with – naturally – comedies like Bichon (René Jayet 1948) and L’impeccable Henri (Charles-Félix Tavano 1948), in which he had the lead. Until the late 1950s Bernard had a highly active film career, mostly in comedy, with titles like C’est la faute d’Adam (Jacqueline Audry 1958) with Dany Robin. His last film role was in La bande à Bobo (Tony Saytor 1963) while he also acted in three French TV series in the early 1960s, such as Loin de Rueil (Claude Barma 1961), after Raymond Queneau’s novel.

We bought this for sister in law as a house warming girl. Her and her husband bought a beautiful home in Sand Canyon.

Grasshopper in Bambalapitty at night

Grasshopper Green is a comical chap

Author unknown

Grasshopper Green is a comical chap

Who lives on the best of fares.

Bright little trousers, jacket and cap,

These are his summer’s wear.

Out in the meadow he loves to go,

Playing away in the sun.

It’s hopperty-skipperty, high and low.

Summer's the time for fun.

Grasshopper Green has a quaint little house,

It’s under the hedge so gay.

And Grandmother Spider, still as a mouse,

Watches him over the way.

Gladly he’s calling his children, I know,

Out in the beautiful sun.

It’s hopperty-skipperty, high and low.

Summer's the time for fun.
