Miami, Florida -- On April 29 2017 Hundreds gather Saturday afternoon to send prevalent message of environmental justice at Jose Marti Park. Simultaneously people participated all over the country for climate actions, jobs, and justice. Organizers partnered with civil rights groups, indigenous groups, labor unions and scientists.
In order to be impactful, the climate change movement expanded beyond the existing environmental groups and incorporate everyone afflicted by climate change—meaning everyone. On Trump’s 100th day in office, we sent a *very* political message: This isn’t Trump’s America — it’s ours. Climate change isn’t a hoax — it’s a crisis. And the climate movement isn’t giving up or going away.

French postcard. Cinémagazine no. 74. 1920s. Rahma.
Armand Bernard (1893 - 1968) was a French actor, composer and band leader. With his heavy diction and his air of dignity he brought a comical note to many French comedies.
Born in 1893 in Bois-Colombes, Bernard dreamt of a career as actor in stage tragedies, but his serious voice and his constant dignified appearance choose otherwise for him. In various comic films he played the mundane snob, the moron, the notary and even better the undertaker where his appearance stole the show of other comedians as in the Fernandel comedies Les gueux au paradis (René Le Henaff 1946) and On demande un assassin (Ernst Neubach 1948). Bernard was just as popular the writer of film music for films such as Le million (René Clair, 1931) and Pension Mimosas (Jacques Feyder, 1934) while he arranged the music for Sous les toits de Paris (René Clair, 1930). Bernard was also musical director for other films such as Luis Bunuel’s L'âge d'or (1930) and A’ nous la liberté (René Clair 1931).
All in all Bernard worked on some 100 films. He was already highly active in silent cinema from 1914 on, in particular as Planchet, valet of D’Artagnan in the super-production Les trois mousquetaires (1921) and the sequel Vingts ans après (1922) by Henri Diamant-Berger. Bernard was highly active within the films by Raymond Bernard, such as Le Petit Café (1919) with Max Linder, Le Miracle des loups (1924) with Charles Dullin, and Le Joueur des éches (1927) with Pierre Blanchar. He also acted in films by André Hugon (Le Diamant noir 1922, Les Deux Pigeons 1922) and played the part of Jean-Jean in Abel Gance’s Napoléon (1927). After Diamant-Berger’s musketeer films, Bernard came back to him in the late 1920s for Éducation de prince (1927) with Pierre Batcheff and Rue de la paix (1927) with Léon Mathot.
Memorable early sound films with Bernard were Fra Diavolo (1930) by Mario Bonnard and Paris la nuit by Diamant-Berger. Bernard also often played in the French version of Franco-German multilinguals of the 1930s: Tumultes (Robert Siodmak 1931) with Charles Boyer, Dactylo (Wilhelm Thiele 1931), Le congress s’amuse (Erik Charrell 1931) with Lilian Harvey and Henri Garat, Quick (Robert Siodmak 1931) with Jules Berry and Lilian Harvey, Caprice de princesse (Henri-Georges Clouzot, Karl Hartl 1933) starring Marie Bell, and Les dieux s’amusent (Reinhold Schunzel/Albert Valentin 1935) staring Henri Garat. Dactylo, starring Marie Glory, was the French version of Thiele’s Die Privatsekretärin, starring Renate Müller. An Italian version, La segretaria privata (Goffredo Alessandrini 1931), starred Elsa Merlini. All were successes and caused an equally popular sequel in France, Dactylo se marie (Joe May/ René Pujol 1934), again with Glory and with Bernard as sidekick. Bernard tried his luck in singing with Dactylo, even if his comic forte was more visual than oral, so he sang on a record two songs for the film - La tirelire (Boyer-Abraham) and Je vois la vie en rose (idem), French versions of Ich hab’ ne alte Tante and Ich bin ja heut’ so glücklich.
Bernard also played in the French, English and Austrian version of Les aventures du roi Pausole/The Merry Monarch (1933), which had Emil Jannings in the English and Austrian version. After new films with Diamant-Berger, Bernard also started to play in films by his younger brother Maurice Diamant-Berger (alias André Gillois) such as L’Enfant du miracle (1932). From the mid-1930s on, Bernard played in several films by Christian-Jaque, such as Compartiment de dames seules 1934), L’école des journalistes (1936), the murder mystery Les Disparus de St. Agil (1937) and the Fernandel comedy Raphaël le Tatoué ( 1938). Other directors connected to Bernard in the 1930s were Pierre Caron and René Pujol. During the war Bernard did not act in films, retaking his film career in 1945 with – naturally – comedies like Bichon (René Jayet 1948) and L’impeccable Henri (Charles-Félix Tavano 1948), in which he had the lead. Until the late 1950s Bernard had a highly active film career, mostly in comedy, with titles like C’est la faute d’Adam (Jacqueline Audry 1958) with Dany Robin. His last film role was in La bande à Bobo (Tony Saytor 1963) while he also acted in three French TV series in the early 1960s, such as Loin de Rueil (Claude Barma 1961), after Raymond Queneau’s novel.

Meerkats may look like prairie dogs, are really related to the mongoose. These comical creatures are inquisitive and alert at all times, you see them busily digging in the dirt looking for insects, making underground burrows.
These little carnivores live and work together in a group called a gang or a mob, helping each other to care for youngsters or keep a lookout for danger. If trouble is spotted, the lookout alerts the others and they all dash back into the burrows for safety. Fun to watch! :)
The Meerkat (aka: Suricate) is a small species of foraging mammal found inhabiting harsh open conditions in the semi-desert plains in southern Africa.
A member of the Mongoose family, Meerkats differ from Mongoose species in a number of ways with the biggest difference being that Meerkats are incredibly sociable animals, where most Mongooses are not.

What a shambles!
On Boxing Day morning I went to see the "spectacle" that is the Albrighton & Woodland Hunt. It was comical to watch.
Not one of the hunt masters actually looked like they wanted to be there. They rode with stern faces and gritted teeth. As soon as they saw the camera they looked away as if they had something to hide.
Maybe their angry faces were because of all the effort that had gone in to putting up crowd control barriers when there was hardly anyone there to actually watch.
The hounds were allowed to do as they pleased whilst in the street. Urinating and fouling all over the church yard. Several were scrounging in litter bins for food, do they not get fed in the kennels?
Owners of small dogs were forced to pick up their pets as the Hounds were harassing them.
Riders were happily drinking shots, one after the other, whilst on horseback whilst some looked and sounded like they had had a skin full already. Some riders were using mobile phones whilst riding.
"Security guards" strolled around in hi vis vests that belonged to construction companies and the terrier men stood around huddled in little groups.
A lady was walking, dressed in hunting attire, round the few spectators rattling a bucket begging for loose change?
One rider, a young girl I believe, lost control of her horse and it threw her off. A bystander commented she had suffered back and neck injuries. A road out of Newport had to be closed by 2 police cars, Air Ambulance attended as did an Ambulance. The hunt rode by uncaringly whilst she lay on the cold, damp road receiving treatment. Not one stopped.
There was one extremely stressed horse that had been left in a box at the rugby club.
On the way out of Newport the hounds were allowed to run on ahead, on the wrong side of the road, on a road with a 60mph limit whilst approaching a blind bend.
Surely this kind of behaviour shouldn't be allowed to go on, let alone the fact they were on their way out to kill foxes....
Anthony's Nose (Hudson Highlands State Park)
Ever wonder how Anthony’s Nose got its name?
Well, in “A History of New York,” Washington Irving comically describes how the mountain just east of the Bear Mountain Bridge received its odd appellation during the reign of Peter Stuyvesant in the mid-1600’s:
“It must be known that the nose of the trumpeter was of a very lusty size...Now thus it happened that bright and early in the morning, the good Antony, having washed his burly visage, was leaning over the quarter-railing of the galley, contemplating it in the glassy wave below. Just at this moment, the illustrious sun, breaking in all its splendor from behind a high bluff of the highlands, did dart one of its most potent beams full upon the refulgent nose of the sounder of brass-- the reflection of which shot straight away down, hissing-hot, into the water, and killed a mighty sturgeon that was sporting beside the vessel!...When this astonishing miracle came to be known to Peter Stuyvesant, and he tasted of the unknown fish, he, as may well be supposed, marvelled exceedingly; and as a monument thereof, he gave the name of Anthony's Nose to a stout promontory in the neighborhood; and it has continued to be called Anthony's Nose ever since that time.”
If that sounded a little unbelievable, perhaps there’s more merit to this story recorded in 1836 by Freeman Hunt:
“General V. is the owner of Anthony’s Nose, (on the river), as it is called. He gave me the origin of that name. Before the revolution, a vessel was passing up the river, under the command of a Capt. Hogans; when immediately opposite this mountain, the mate looked rather quizzically, first at the mountain and then at the captain’s nose. The captain, by the way, had an enormous nose, which was not unfrequently the subject of a good-natured remark; and he at once understood the mate’s allusion. ‘What,’ says the captain, ‘does that look like my nose? Call it then if you please Anthony’s Nose.’ The story was repeated on shore, and the mountain thenceforward assumed the name, and has thus become an everlasting monument to the memory of the redoubtable Capt. Anthony Hogans and his nose.”
This is a comical entry representing the corruption of our Government (if it were ever to corrupt). In my opinion, if the government did end in corruption, as kiwi's at least we could go down in style (thus the tui beers, pavlova's, kiwifruits and L&P's) also note the view of the Beehive through the window!

The website for an airline wanted to know what musical instrument I played: none, though once upon a time I played the piano, badly. It also wanted to know my favorite flavor of ice cream: cookie dough, probably, though it’s something of a tie with peanut butter cup. Finally, the website asked, “Who is your favorite artist?” It offered me a drop-down menu featuring comically disparate options — among them Banksy, Norman Rockwell, Gustav Klimt, Richard Serra and Shepard Fairey. It’s al about online security questions!
I have been asked all kinds of questions by the interfaces of major corporations for the purposes of “security.” Some security questions seem simple, almost cliché: “What is your mother’s maiden name?” (My mother kept hers, and then divorced.) “What color was your childhood house?” (Yellow, though first it was blue and then it was painted and then it was sold.) “Who was your childhood best friend?” (Annika — easy.) Others are more difficult, for their reliance on preferences, which they take to be fixed: favorite movie, favorite song, favorite color, even favorite activity. Sometimes they cut straight to the heart, as when I was given the option to select the security question “What is the love of your life?” (There was some odd poetry here — not “who,” but “what.”) I was trying to open a bank account when I found myself wondering, incongruously: What do I really love, above all else?
Online security questions have the feel of the icebreakers we might have played in middle school, or maybe second-date questions; they require us to self-define using arbitrary markers. They’re like treehouse secret passwords, in a game played with yourself. I have come to love them over the years, these sudden, strange, personal inquiries that guard our entrance into some of the internet’s most impersonal zones.
The assumption was that your mother’s maiden name would have faded so far into the past that almost no one else could possibly have known it.
Security questions were invented to solve a problem at once existential and practical: How can you prove that you are you? According to research done by Bonnie Ruberg, a professor at the University of California, Irvine, security questions came into being around 1850. The Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank was founded for Irish immigrants in New York, many of whom encountered discrimination at other banks. In the mid-19th century, banks often used signatures to authenticate people’s identities, but many of the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank’s clients could not read or write. So it created a “test book” that contained a wealth of personal information. When clients came in, clerks asked them about their personal history and relations to verify their identities. Sometimes they even asked the quintessential question, “What is your mother’s maiden name?” (The assumption was that your mother’s maiden name would have faded so far into the past that almost no one else could possibly have known it.) This practice caught on and expanded to other banks over the course of the next 50 years — they came to be called “challenge questions,” or “question-and-answer passwords,” or, my favorite, “shared secrets.”
Let Us Help You Protect Your Digital Life
Unfortunately, security questions are not very effective for security in the age of the internet. They are often easy to guess (your mother’s maiden name, which may still be her last name, is widely accessible information). A 2009 study found that users’ acquaintances could predict their security answers 17 percent of the time. Digital-security experts advise that we do away with them in favor of two-factor identification and better methods of protection. And yet security questions linger, surprisingly hard to dislodge from the architecture of the internet, out of some combination of cost-cutting, technical challenges and inertia. We are in that strange moment of technological in-between, the impending and necessary twilight of the security question.
I love a shared secret — even one between myself and my online banking system — and am already beginning to mourn the loss of security questions. They feel like antidotes to the sameness of the contemporary internet. Unlike the homogenized corporate sites to which they grant you entry, security questions’ essential randomness feels like a vestige of a past internet. They are addressed to me, personally, out of the blue, and they prod me to consider what makes me uniquely me. They are artifacts of an era when society thought differently about what constituted identity and how to prove it, when who we were wasn’t rooted in the idea of objective documents like passports and driver’s licenses, but in personal, often hereditary knowledge that could be shared.
There is something beautiful about this alternative articulation of the self. Rather than presenting yourself as the sum of objective facts — eye color, height, place of birth — you are instead asked to choose a favorite song. There is something essentially childlike about this; when I was young, I held my preferences like talismans, as I tried both to locate myself in the world and tell others who I was. I selected a favorite baseball player, and repeated it over and over: Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter. (In a diary I kept when I was 9, I compared two friends and wrote that one of them was a better match for me because we were both “huge Yankees fans.”) These things fluctuate; they are inexact. But the shifting landscape of my tastes, affinities and random personal trivia are, I think, more essential to who I am than my date of birth. I am still surprised and delighted to encounter another person, a kindred spirit, who shares my favorite song.

Nutty Mads - Dippy the Deep Diver - Popular Monochromatic injection-molded polymer plastic toy figures originally manufactured in 1963 to 1964 by the Marx Toy Company - Comically grotesque and minutely detailed figures likely inspired by the stylized Kustom Kulture graphics of Ed Big Daddy Roth - whose bizarre Rat Fink character was being licensed by Revell for hot rod model kits at the time - and the vividly outlandish comic art of popular magazine cartoonists Basil Wolverton and Don Martin - The figures were reportedly based on original designs created by veteran Mad Magazine artist Jack Davis
