I do love colour splashes, tacky as they can look at times. I'm aware that my thirds are rather out; if I get a chance I'll go back in and redo the cropping on them.

Cropped and rotated, saturation altered.

Comments and critique always welcome (:

A splash of light and colour create a face in the fleece draped over a chair-back

I took this picture 2 winters ago! I edited it stupidly, and since then it's just being sitting on my desktop asking to be fixed! So i took the job of fixing it up last night... It still looks a bit odd (i don't usually colour splash nowadays but it was the only way to make the people stand out!) anyway, i've been meaning to upload this for 2 years, so here it finally is :)

a wee bit of colour splash to enhance

This is a colour splash version of yesterday's picture, Voyageur on Portage.

Tim McDonagh, dressed in Voyageur gear, walks with Alana Callan and Kyla.

Tim decided to honour Kirk Wipper by travelling the entire 130 kilometre route of the Kirk Whipper Memorial Portage, accompanying the canoe and talking with the many people along the way who took turns to carry the canoe. Tim, together with portage-organizer Neil Sorbie, did the full route of the four-day portage, and has suggested that Kirk's canoe continue to undertake similar journeys in the future to celebrate and promote wilderness and canoe craft. What a great idea!!

It was a pleasure to talk to Tim during our section of the portage.

As with a good number of the photos taken today, I had to do a bit of post-processing to deal with the diffuse and overcast lighting. The colours in this one suggested that a Colour Splash treatment might work.

Much, much better when viewed in large.

The Making of This Photo:

This was a difficult photo to take in an interesting way. My bathroom gave me limits that normally I wouldn't have in an open space. It also posed an issue because the shape of the tub left me without the ability to make a photo with elements that involve having only a small area highlighted because it took up most of the photo.

What This Photo Offers:

This photo offers contrast and framing.

There is an obvious contrast between the black and white bathroom and the colourful bubbles, and there is framing because the bath tun forms a frame around the water.

My daughter's cat

I took this photo during the field trip at YILI park. When I took this picture, I was about knee deep in water (disgusting) and trying to focus around the trees. This photo represents disheartened because to me, that word means sadness and loneliness. So when Jakob, (who is also the subject of the picture) decided to sit down on the rocks and look at his photos, I said, man does he look lonely. It was taken using natural light, but since the photo is predominately black and white, you can't really see that. I used Colour Splash to edit the photo's colours and my vantage point was direct.
