I don't mind winter when it's fluffy snow and mild temperatures .... this morning, however, saw bright sun, clear skies, and a blast of Arctic air. At 9 am I stood on my front steps peering at Lake Superior . It was -31C (-24F) and if you considered the wind it felt like -41C (which is the same as -41F = cold!). City furnaces were running steady today!

a cold winter morning

they'll do anything to get the peanuts, even if it means slipping and sliding on ice. it was fun to watch....

Cold War Kids started in 2004 in downtown Fullerton in guitarist/vocalist Jonnie Russell's apartment above a restaurant called Mulberry Street, whose name they would eventually use as the title of their first EP. The band relocated to Whittier, California and began recording their first demos, which Monarchy Music released as the Mulberry Street EP in spring 2005. Between tours, the band released two more EPs: With Our Wallets Full and Up in Rags, in 2006. In summer 2006, Cold War Kids signed to Downtown Records and released their debut LP Robbers & Cowards that fall.

its a very cold grey new years day here

A draw for photographers in the Catskill region of New York, The Cold Spring House. We were here 3 months ago and the old place is really decaying fast. Various sections are visibly sagging, collapsing and even a chimney has fallen since our last visit. I fear one heavy snowfall may collapse the main structure.

I am fascinated with this place and wish I could have stayed here before it closed.

Last winter in Oulu. I think this was about minus 30 degrees celsius or so.

I don't like the cold, but I would like some snow to arrive here though. Too dark otherwise!

Highly processed with RadLab to give a "cold" feel.

Jets - Cold Hard Bitch kinda comes to mind when I think of the theme of the shoot I did today at Harold Wood Hospital. Total fun, awesome to let the imagination run wild like this too.

San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade.

We had a wicked ice storm in Oklahoma this year. Perfect for picture taking with two exceptions: bad roads and no sunshine. Thankfully, the clouds cleared for a few hours between ice storms to risk life and limb for a few 'glass forest' type of pictures.

Don't you just love the way hobby photography turns disasters into photo-ops? I think it is starting to make me more optimistic somehow!

Actually extremely cold in the water.

...

I believe this was the coldest photo shoot I've ever experienced. The ambient temp was about 3˚F above but the wind was blowing 25 - 35 miles/hour and much moisture in the air. There are web apps that calculate wind chill, but I just don't want to know. Confirmed later that the owner's manual for my tripod suggests no use below 32˙F.

Two nights of nearly zero degrees created 'ice fingers' in the creek.

Now, it's quite cold in Europe and Germany! In Oberstdorf (Allgäu, Bavarian Alps) we had minus 32°C (-25.6°F) last night!! Here on lake Kirchsee we had minus 12°C (10°F) in the afternoon!

===

Ganz Europa stöhnt wegen der Extremkälte! Minus 32°C in Oberstdorf.

Returning to this captivating spot along the Asturian coast was a long-awaited endeavor. The timing was almost right, with the tides aligning for a chance to get up close and personal with the colossal rock formation and its impressive twin holes during the sunset.

Though the receding tide didn't grant me full access to the desired vantage point, and the tranquil sea posed a challenge in capturing my preferred water textures, the allure of the location remained undeniable. I managed to freeze a moment in time as a wave nearly engulfed the prominent foreground rocks, showcasing the raw power of the ocean.

The light conditions may not have been ideal, and the sky wore a muted hue, but patience was my ally. As the day transitioned into the mystical blue hour, a cold and serene atmosphere descended upon the scene, adding a touch of ethereal charm to the already mesmerizing landscape.

While challenges may have tempered my vision, the essence of this coastal wonder remains untamed and resplendent. Every visit brings something new and a reminder of nature's awe-inspiring forces.

waves striking straight from the pacific ocean.. thats really cold water :)

perfect day (:

explored!

hehe my first one :B

Yesterday on Whistler. When I read the weather report of an Arctic Outflow Warning. We should of maybe skied another day. It was very, very cold and with the wind...ouch. I did not take many photo's, it hurt to much.

This photo is just off of Harmany lift, heading towards the Saddle. The Peak chair did not open because of the harsh elements. Used my fisheye lens for this shot.
